I was born in OK but moved to FL when I was 8. I am now 28; both of my parents and an uncle attended OU so I was raised an OU fan but had never attended a game or had even been to Norman for that matter. After graduating law school this past year, my uncle, who is a season ticket holder, put the schedule in front of me and said "Pick". I chose the WVU game of 2013 and he put me up in the Sooner Legends hotel. As a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, I spent my first night in the Selmon Suite (which was beyond amazing) and then moved rooms to the Bob Kelsu room for the remainder of my stay. People have commented negatively on this hotel citing that the hotel caters to the "better off" and that the breakfast is sub-par (so to speak). I must say that this is not the Hyatt, however you could not find a finer hotel anywhere near campus and the breakfast is precisely an OK breakfast. The bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy were not generic. I know generic eggs from generic hotels, they put a little bit of love in them here. The fruit was quite fresh and being from FL I know fresh fruit (they also offer pancakes, and continental options such as bagels and cereal). The owner took time to have a long and wonderful conversation with my uncle and myself and extended unnecessary hospitality that you can only get from genuine Okies. They have free Wi-Fi, a pool, a comprehensive option of cable channels that supercede any other hotel that I have ever stayed in, a wonderful restaurant that offers the best of OK BBQ (trust me on this one) and Tex-Mex, and a bar that you can find hopping any Fri or Sat night if that is your cup of tea (karaoke included). The staff is more than hospitable, even the girl that listened to my drunken rant about Breaking Bad. There is memorabilia commemorating OU's best ranging from football to gymnastics. There are plenty of places to eat around the area, a gas station across the street if you would like to grab a snack not offered in the hotel snack stop or wet your whistle in your room, and a 24 hour snack room that includes chips, crackers, cookies, sodas, gatorades, waters, candies, and t shirts/hats. The people that speak ill of this place may have had a bad experience but I must say that I've stayed at many wonderful hotels ranging from Hyatts to Embassy's and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Norman. If you're visiting Norman, this is definitely the place to stay. The beds are out of this world comfortable, not space foam or anything special but they found a way to make it super comfortable. It's not too far from campus and I plan on making this an annual trip. Sooner Legends is where you want to be if you are coming to Norman, especially if you're visiting the campus for a game (they welcome opposing fans with open arms and OU fans coming into town alike) or to see if you or your child would like to attend. Boomer Sooner, this IS OU and this is the place to be to experience OK hospitality. In the future when I attend game day I will be certain to book this hotel early to ensure that I and those with me stay here. Thank you Sooner Legends so very much for making my 1st OU game day so wonderful, comfortable, and reminding me where I come from.
