Have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. Will not stay her again. There are way too many better options for the price. In fact, we stayed at another Thompson hotel, The Beekman, several weeks prior to our stay at The Smyth and it was great… what you'd expect for the money. The Smyth has very poor oversight and/or management. I will simply list the many issues experienced on our stay in late December '17 and our stay in July '17: 1) Our room was ok, average at best… big stain on the wall by the lamp, mold where the wall meets the floor in the shower, very little water pressure in the shower. 2) The hotel only has coffee in it's restaurant that one must pay for. How many hotels don't provide free coffee and water in the lobby area? 3) They only had one of the two elevators working. 4) The music in the back lobby area had constant static, like one of the speakers was blown. 5) Very small reception area that is cramped and really only permits six or seven guests. Why they didn't leave the reception area in the large space to the right of the entrance is very strange. Rug in the reception area is frayed and looks bad (obviously, who cares about this but it ends up being another thing). 6) During our stay in July, it took nearly 45 minutes to get our car from the valet. On our visit last week, the hotel had put a guests stored luggage in another vehicle and it took a while to get their bags back (again, not a big deal for me, but could have just as easily been me). The culmination of all of these things really makes this hotel one you should pass on. If it was $250 a night, I wouldn't care. But we spent close to $550 per room, per night on our visit. For that price, the issues mentioned shouldn't exist. I can't understand the lack of attention to so many details at this hotel. There are too many better options, even within the same hotel chain. Staff was super accommodating from checking us in early and providing a late check-out to assisting us whenever possible. Rooms were large by New York standards and really well appointed. More suited for business travel than personal as not a ton to do without walking 10-15 minutes to Soho. Great place to go on a first shidduch date. Parking right out front, cozy seating area inside. Staff gave me a free upgrade to a room with an outdoor balcony. I won't say what I said that led to this because I don't want to inspire copy-cats. But these people legitimately gave it to me for something that was completely unrelated to them. Super friendly staff, great accommodations, perfect I didn't see much past the lobby as I just stopped in for a quick visit but the lobby bar was cute and designed as a speakeasy while it was very comfortable and clean. Modernized with an old style vintage feeling. Great location and very easy to get to via subway. There is customer service… then there is the Smyth! My wife and I stayed here for our 1-year wedding anniversary and everything from the way they greet you from your car, attention to detail during check-in, small gift gestures when we got to our room, and cleanliness throughout the hotel was absolutely amazing! The Smyth Thompson Hotel was fantastic in every way — we'd definitely come back to stay here! They accommodate you no matter your needs. They LOVE dogs and are just across from a park (not enclosed) but only 4 blocks from a whole LOT of enclosed dog parks around the waterfront walks and city The place looked really upscale. The room I saw was pretty big. It was alright, I was only visiting someone. Was there to interview talent during a film festival. The rooms seem nice, lobby was small and dark. Very discreet. The company has a contract with Ovation / Concur and at receipt they were lying that they have no idea who that is and that they do not work with them (had to pay by myself, even with the booking confirmation print out on hands, on the third day of stay I was informed that everything is well now and that they do work with them and got the payment). The approach was initially in a way of:
