The valet outside was quick to come up and take our rental car. When we walked in I was in awe of the gorgeous lobby, design use of rich color and texture and the aromatic smell coming from the fireplace. The seating is beautiful and you will be tempted to sit and read a book or chat with friends in the lobby. We were early for check in but, the front desk gladly stored our bags for us and gave us tickets to claim them when we returned. We booked a room with one queen bed but, found out the next day that we had been upgraded to a king room. The front desk staff was very helpful and explained concierge services, entry to Gramercy Park, dining options, etc. You will need a room key to access any of the floors from the elevator. We arrived on our floor and noticed that it smelled like incense in the hallway so, I am not sure if they pump it through the vents but, something about it just made you feel happy. Room Amenities: Comfortable mattress with high quality bedding, dining table with a cozy settee perfect for watching the tv, a bench and a chair fit for a king. The room is laid out in a way that it feels like a tiny apartment which is great if you plan on spending some time in your room or getting take out from somewhere. The room service menu was huge, the mini bar was well stocked (most items overpriced) but, half bottles of liquor were the best deal and they event had actual glasses for the wine. There is a safe, drawers, hangers and an ironing board in the closet. The bathroom is small but, the tub is deep, the toiletries they provide are superior quality, trust me the bath salts were amazing, shower head and hand held and two soft cotton robes to lounge in. Also, there are shutters and black out curtains in case you need to take a nap or had a long night. Every light is on a dimmer so, you can create some nice romantic ambiance. All rooms come with concierge service and access to the park. They turn down your bed, light a candle in the room and leave you a note about what the weather will be the next day on your pillow. The TV is on a swivel arm so you can watch it from the bed as well as the seating area. Complaints: They need to fix the issue with the jade bar door people who even if you are on the list they say you aren't until you say you will go back to the concierge and talk to them. Then all the sudden the rude guy lets you in. Our ac unit went out for about 20 minutes and it got hot quick but, it came back on so we didn't have to report it. Check the alarm clock because ours went off at 5:30 a. M. And we didn't set it. People's room service trays sat out in the hallway for longer than I think they should have. We inquired about the event venue upstairs and were given the person's email to contact but, I never heard back from the email that I sent her. Our toiletries weren't replenished on the second day of our reservation so, I had to go down and ask for some more bath salts. We decided to stay another night and they told us about the room upgrade but, extended the second day to the same room at the same price to make it easier on us. The front desk staff helped us when we booked the wrong day through booking dot com for the next night. Also, I grabbed some soup from down the street and they lent me a spoon without hesitation. We did use the concierge service for brunch reservations at the Italian restaurant on-site. She also took the time out to show us the venue Sunday morning before we checked out. We left our bags at the hotel after checking out and went to breakfast. We were able to call the hotel to get the valet to bring our car around before we went back and they had our bags waiting in the car. A great location to use as a base to explore the city and top notch service from start to finish make this my favorite hotel in the city.
