While it seems there are a lot of negative reviews regarding some sort of homeless stay-over during the holidays, I can only speak to the experience I had. I was extremely impressed with the establishment. I work in luxury hotels so I can spot good service a mile away. I didn't have to reach out to management because not a single thing went wrong on our stay… The room was impressive along with the entire facility. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a little weird walking around empty streets on a Saturday night… But as everyone will remind you there, "it's a financial city. "

Worst place ever. Went to wedding, banquet room was so hot that the table cloth was soaked with condensation. Waitress wanted to argue with guest at my table over which meal choice he had made on his rsvp. Groom told me he had a bug in his bed. Cocktail hour was worst food I ever had at a wedding. Then came the event that prompted my review. The last straw. Went back for Sunday brunch. Pulled up to valet to make sure they took debit cards for payment. Was told yes. So I agreed to pay the $14. After brunch went to pay and was told that credit card system was down. I asked front desk to validate and received a firm" no" Was told in a snotty tone "everyone else paid cash". I explained that I had confirmed the ability to pay with card before opting for valet. This all fell on deaf ears and I had to go to my older brother and borrow money. This left a worse taste then the awful food they served. Been to a lot of weddings if this place isn't a great bargain you can do better.

I stayed in this hotel several times in the past few years. I can honestly say that the room was beautiful and the staff was OK. I really did not have a lot of contact with them except to check in and out. I have read all the entries for the Homeless people and honestly I imagine that the hotel has a liability that they must cover for all the other patrons. It is sad that homeless people need places to stay but why would one think that is the responsiblity of a hotel. Maybe a city. There should be shelters for all homeless specially in the middle of the winter. To place the burden on this hotel and than rate than down rate them is as mean as what you are accusing them of doing. Maybe someone can plan a little better for the next bitter Christmas and provide a nice place for these people with a bette celebration. My stay was very nice at this hotel. This is not a paid entry and I am in no way afflitated with this hotel. I wrote this review because I was shocked at the rating and wanted to see why it was so low.

Out of fairness to the hotel here's five stars. Although I can appreciate how the gentleman was trying to give the homeless a Christmas treat I think there were better ways to do it. For the safety, comfort and expectations of the hotel guests I can't disagree with how the hotel handled the situation in principal. Like many of the other reviewers giving one star reviews I have not stayed here myself, but I'm chiming in as the owner of a small hotel myself.

Beautiful hotel with all the amenities one would expect of such luxury accommodations within this price range. The rooms are spacious and elegant which suits the overall experience after stepping through the front doors. The management and ownership are sadly not up to the same elegant standard conveyed by such an experience however. It is for that reason alone which Hotel du Pont has duly earned so many reviews to their deplorable management.

I know of no one who will ever stay at your hotel again. The Christian organization Road to Redemption Ministries prepaid for a small group of homeless people to spend Christmas night at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware. However, the luxury hotel canceled the reservation when they found out they were homeless 3 hours before check in… the director of security from the Hotel DuPont ("Presley") made the decision NOT TO HONOR the reservation for this reason — He said "What if one of THOSE PEOPLE rape or rob one of my guests"…

The hotel said it canceled a reservation for a $640 suite for six homeless people on Christmas night because they wouldn't have proper identification. The room had been booked by a Newark man named Matt Senge whose wife used to be homeless. He said he wanted to give the group a treat on Christmas — a warm bed and a hot shower. Senge said that hotel staff members had been enthusiastic and supportive, but that a staff member contacted him three hours before check-in to cancel. Senge said the person didn't mention anything about identification but cited the safety of other hotel guests. "He said verbatim: 'What if one of those people rapes or robs one of my guests? '" Senge said. "I was devastated. " In addition to Hotel du Pont's change of heart Thursday, two other local hotels agreed to put up homeless people for free for limited stays.

Great Place but I will never stay there again even if they did finally apologize. How cruel can you be? One day you might end up just as these individuals and praying for a warm place to say for just one nite. Homeless people will be staying at the Hotel du Pont after all. The hotel's cancellation of a reservation for a group of homeless people to stay there Christmas night, which became public Thursday, sparked outrage and outreach from another hotel's management. Where Wilmington's most prominent lodging refused a $639 reservation for one room for one night, the general manager of a Stanton-area hotel is responding by offering 10 of them – free – for Thursday night. And Thursday evening, Lisa Bolten, director of DuPont Hospitality, apologized for the misunderstanding and said the homeless people now have been invited to stay there this weekend – without charge. The Christmas night plan began with Newark-area residents Deb Bennett and her husband Matthew Scott Senge, who are co-founders of the gospel-focused Road to Redemption Ministries in Wilmington. They wanted to do something special for Christmas for one particular group of homeless people in Wilmington, Bennett. "I used to be one of them, " she said, adding she lived with them under a city bridge for quite awhile after her house burned down in 2012. Initially, she thought of booking them rooms at the Fairview Inn on South Market Street just south of the city.

Here is the story. Okay, I have a story that has been brewing since before Christmas. Before I aired this on social media I wanted to give the other side several opportunities to make this situation right but as I expected they turned out to be the cowards this world seems to accept. I am tired of people pushing things under the carpet for the sake of "personal satisfaction" or "need to know". So, I am going to do whatever is ethical, moral and legal to expose the ones responsible for what happened. Here's what happened — 2 days before Christmas I wanted to take a few that this world calls "Homeless" off the streets of this dark city. I spoke to several managers about my plan to book a suite at the Hotel DuPont (yeah, could have rented a 20 dollar motel room but how is that helping them, isn't that telling them. That 20 dollar room is all they are worth? ) So a conversation ensued with several reservation specialists at the Hotel DuPont in downtown Wilmington, DE who's job it is to offer accommodations to ANYONE no matter race, creed, sexual preference, color or financial stature. CORRECT? So I advised that this suite was going to be for 6 homeless individuals and I was filling it with food and gift baskets. After speaking with management, advising them of every detail and then confirming with night manager "Mike" that additional cots would be provided just in case needed, I was sent a confirmation letter and check in date of 12/25/2014 for one night in the amount of $639.

I don't have much respect for this hotel based on its managements' behavior. When a local minister explained in detail that he wanted to pay for homeless family to spend Christmas indoors, they, at first, agreed. They then backed out, after the family had been given the voucher claiming that they had issues with security. First of all, that's unethical. You make an agreement, you stand buy it. Second, it's prejudicial. They had no reason to claim that any member of this family would sexually attack someone. They are suggesting that just because people are poor that they are criminal even though they have respected members of the community not only vouching for them, but providing the financing for the evening. Third, it's atrocious business practices. Beyond, it being unethical, it's amazingly bad PR. "Let's act like Scrooge and renege on a business contract at the last minute which forces a homeless family to literally be out in the cold on Christmas. " Instead of going through with the agreement and wallowing in the glow of free good publicity, they shot themselves in the foot and have garnered for themselves bad publicity which will cost them individual reservations, group reservations and the respect of other businesses who will have to wonder if they make a habit out of backing out of business contracts at the last minute. Whoever made this decision needs to go back to business school and also consider joining the human race.
