Very nice! Rooms are quaint and inviting. The hotel is just a short walk from downtown, and not far from the water either. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good, if light. The rooms are a bit on the small side, and the hotel is definitely old — so if you're looking for the state-of-the-art, you're looking in the wrong place. But if you want a cozy home-away-from-home for your trip to Portsmouth, this is the place!

Wonderful place to stay! Within walking distance to everything. The rooms are adorable, very clean and comfortable. Sheets are soft and beds are super comfy. The whole hotel was just welcoming and cozy. We would definitely stay again!

This place was beautiful, the staff was friendly and the rooms were cozy and modern. The price was amazing compared to the quality when we arrived. They both have their own parking lot and the breakfast area is comfortable and whimsical. Love love love this place. My room was cold and they immediately made it right. Can't say enough good things about The Hotel Portsmouth.

Fantastic combination of old-world elegance and charm with all the amenities and convenience expected from a modern hotel. The staff was friendly and completely accommodating to our special requests. The rooms are clean, well-appointed, and the beds are soft and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location right in the heart of Portsmouth within easy walking distance to the very best that the city has to offer.

Overall, we like staying here. The people are nice, the space is cute and it's perfectly located near downtown Portsmouth. The breakfast is really put together well! The Wi-Fi though can be wonky most of the time.

We stayed in the "Penthouse" and had a great time. Plenty of room for 3 adults and a toddler. The only negative point was that there wasn't a refrigerator in the room, wasn't a big deal for us.

Loved staying at the hotel Portsmouth walked in and was immediately impressed with the vibe and the people! Rooms were well laid out and even came with there own stereo and iPad to use.

The staff was super polite! Our room was very spacious and had a beautiful fireplace in it. The hotel as a whole was extremely clean. It was only a 5 minute walk to downtown which made it easy to find coming back that night from dinner.

One of the best option in Portsmouth to stay. We enjoyed stay in there hotel. Highly recommended.

Is this a renovated home, or a posh hotel!? Either way, I truly enjoyed our stay at this quaint property. Staff was friendly, room was well appointed and fresh looking. Bath was small, but had a cool modern shower. The common areas feel very homey. Excellent location, parking in back. Breakfast was on the modern side: think breakfast tapas.

Loved our short stay in the Garden Suite at The Hotel Portsmouth! Great location, super friendly and helpful staff, and the room was perfect — spacious, clean and probably one of the best nights of sleep we have had while traveling! Wish we could stay longer but we will be back.

The Hotel Portsmouth is a wonderful place. It has a unique blend of old architecture and newly appointed rooms. The lobby specifically has an old world feel, but has been furnished and decorated quite professionally. The staff were on point with recommendations on local spots and seem to be a happy crew. This hotel is highly recommended.

The room was nice, clean and had a bit of uniqueness you don't get at other hotels. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. They were able to accommodate a late check-out for us which was quite nice. The location is a short walk to downtown Portsmouth and couldn't be more convenient. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a place in downtown Portsmouth.

Got in, the room was ready early, very clean, lots of charm, very convenient for walking downtown. That's gets you 3 stars for good service. A polite staff, with lots of character that enjoy their jobs and smile when they see and meet you. That type of genuine hospitality gets you the other 2 stars. Breakfast was very cute and delicious with a lot of options. Checking out was painless, overall great experience, thank you very much we will be back. Oh, one more thing, the gentleman who helped us check in and gave us a map was very knowledgeable and engaged that was a nice touch.

My children rented the downstairs bar area for their mom's birthday party and it couldn't have gone smoother. It was the perfect small venue for a birthday party of 40 people. The staff was exceptionally helpful and provided us everything we needed. We brought our own alcohol and served it to the guests in glasses that belong to the hotel. Thank you so much to the staff.

Thoroughly isappointed. Comfortable bed, but room so small it's like an obstacle course. Had to dodge the bed frame and mantelpiece in the dark to get to the bathroom, and lost… Now have a huge bruise on my shin. Additionally, light switch for the bathroom is not in or near the bathroom, but on a wall somewhere else. Breakfast is so overdone that it's stingy and the selection weird and poor. Would need to eat 4 plates of the offered breakfast portions to equal 1 normal portion. Also, it all looked old. Hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cheeses all looked like they had been sitting out for hours despite my arrival at breakfast 15 minutes after it began. Plates and cutlery were dirty. Took a 3 plates from the pile to get a clean one. For the price tag, I'd say skip this place.

Historic location centrally nestled within lovely Portsmouth. Our room was well prepared and included high speed Wi-Fi, full cable TV and icey air conditioning. The complimentary goods in the morning were elgantly displayed and rather tasty. A great stay in a great town, I look forward to returning again soon.

Pleasant and well appointed hotel in a quaint building. Rooms are top notch and well sized and quiet. Easy access to City core and on site parking. Continental breakfast is a gourmet experience — unusual and tasty.

From start to finish a wonderful experience. Location easy walk to downtown and all the sights while hotel is in quiet mixed residential commercial area. The staff are the best professional and friendly and so helpful. The bed was comfy, great nights sleep. Breakfast a mix of cold and hot and beyond the usual fare with plenty of hearty coffee. Decor a mix of funk, elegant, vintage and new. Reasonable in city rates and so much nicer than a chain experience.

Adorable boutique hotel with gracious staff and a beautiful house. They have some great general areas to relax in and are located pretty close to much of the downtown action.

Screw hotel points. This place is awesome. Nice beds, nice tvs, HBO. Beats the Sheraton hands down.

I stayed in one of the first floor rooms and loved it. Great atmosphere, good rates, and I got a great night sleep since I didn't have to listen to the heat go on and off like in a normal hotel. This place is awesome.
