Great location easy to walk around downtown.

The lady who checked us in and checked us out is a miserable woman. The over night girl is so so nice. I went to buy a water at 230am and we spoke for a bit. Very personable. My room was fine. Disappointed that bar and restaurant were closed. That’s why we always stay there.

The parking situation is atrocious and there was no valet parking. After loading my bags up to my room, I had to drive around for 45 minutes with a tired toddler to find a spot. My room wasn’t very clean, and the light switch was broken. This place definitely needs a little extra TLC.

Rooms are nice. Bartender on 13 Mar was the worst I've ever had in Portsmouth.

Great location within walking distance to all local attractions. Perfect for a family. Great customer service.

Very clean, beds comfortable, service was great… and great location.

My mother and I were trapped in their main elevator, on the third floor, for over a half hour last night. The music was so loud that we could barely talk to emergency services (with the elevator off). When we got out, not a single hotel employee was there to check on us. A gentleman from the front desk walked by us, as we were speaking to a firefighter and smiled. When we approached him later that evening, he LIED and said he had no idea that happened. There was a Fire truck and an ambulance parked outside and no one from management thought to ask what was going on inside their own hotel?!?!
We checked out this morning and mentioned it to the day staff, there was no incident reported. Corporate will be notified, lawsuit waiting to happen. Absolutely ridiculous.

What an AMAZING experience checking in at the Hilton Garden Inn (HGI)! After a less than wonderful time at another hotel, we found ourselves at the HGI very last minute, for our anniversary. Natalie went above and beyond to make our once horrible day, a fantastic one! She and the staff ensured we had a nice room, and offered all the amenities available. (Though she probably would have offered this to anyone, it was extra special to us because of our rough day. ) We took the valet and went upstairs to get ready for our anniversary dinner. As we were getting ready, Natalie and her staff surprised us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. It took my breath away and I cried happy tears which were way better than the tears I had when arriving at the HGI. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Portsmouth area. I sure know where we will be staying next year on our anniversary!

Great brunch and very family friendly!

Called ahead to get adjoining rooms, that were promised. When we arrived they couldn’t give us adjoining rooms. We booked this hotel because of the hot tub. When we arrive hot tub closes till further notice. Hotel wide fire alarm set off at 5am, on the 5th floor having to navigate my child with special needs down five flights of stairs. And stood outside on the windiest night of the year. Next morning when I presented the problems to the front desk staff, she brushed me off and told me there was nothing she could do.
I used to love to stay in this hotel, however the entire situation was not hassled properly and I’m can’t imagine telling friends and family to stay here. Very sad our stay-cation with the kids was ruined.

Nice roomy hotel. Parking is either valet for charge or use public parking in the neighborhood for way less. Small but nice in house bar. Breakfast options were good. Had trouble checking in for king bed room that was reserved (must be limited? ), forcing a wait.

We stayed at the Hilton garden in after our wedding! Everyone that worked there was very professional and made the stay perfect. We dealt with Sam from the front desk the week before and again the night and morning after we stayed. He was absolutely amazing very friendly, and helpful. He helped make the stay super special and stress free for us. It was incredible!

We received excellent service while staying at the Hilton Garden. All of the staff, from the front desk to the valet, were warm and efficient. The accommodations were clean and attractive. Our only complaints would be a somewhat funky odor in our room and hard mattresses.

Beautiful modern rooms! The service is very kind and extremely helpful. The location is great because on this side of the hotel, you get a small, nice city to walk around and enjoy the small shops and eateries. If you go on Route 4, you then get an area with tons of well-known restaurants, grocery stores, and even a Barnes and Noble! You will not feel as if you have to drive long distances to get the essentials on your stay. I also got a bottle of champagne and chocolate strawberries for my birthday! One thing to know before going here: Parking is an extra charge if you stay at this hotel. You will either have to park on the street, (Feed the meter! ) Use the parking garage, (Also costs money) or use the hotel's valet service. (Best choice in my opinion, because you don't have to keep paying daily, it just comes up on the room bill. )

The hotel as a whole is great! The location is pretty cool (we'll get into that in a second). The inside is modern, and kept clean. The rooms are great as well, clean, the shower is hot, Keurig cups and a coffee machine, and $4 water. The breakfast is about $18, and ok at best — if you go with it, get an omelette as they are fresh made. And, hey! Here's where that location comes back to this discussion. Because the hotel is downtown Portsmouth, the parking options are on street (if you want to deal with that), a garage that charges $1.50 per hour, or the valet parking provided through a third party for $28: this option is the best in my opinion, and there are options in where they park your car — tip accordingly. But, you can comfortably walk around downtown from the hotel, and visit all the popular areas as well as enjoy the port views. Overall, this could be 5 stars if it was more seamless, but as is it can't be any better than a 4.

The rooms were Great! Clean, modern. Beds were very comfortable! Due to understaffing, it took an extra 4 hours for our room to be ready. There was nothing offered to us as consolation. Bar was moderately stocked, but the bar tender was rude, strange, and not very accommodating. Keurigs in room are great!

Staff were friendly. Room was very nice with good view. Soft towels. Located right downtown within walking distance of everything and offers valet parking cheaper than all day at garage across the street.

Ray, Liz and Josh were great, they accommodated our needs. Ray and Liz were helpful with suggestions on where to eat and places to see. We were there scouting places to live and that made it very easy.

Everything was clean. The hotel was nice and had a decent looking bar, tho we didn't drink there. Pool looked kind of small, but was not busy and made us wish we had our suits. Our room was very nice, very clean, with free coffee/tea from a Keurig. Location was perfect, very close to all the restaurants, shops, and bars. Perfect for our trip, and we would stay here again.

Honestly, I would like to give the hotel 4 stars because the stay itself was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful when called upon and unobtrusive otherwise. The accommodations were very nice and the location is fantastic. The reason I have to give two stars is for two reasons. First, the parking is a huge problem. I feel like the website should be more upfront when booking about the lack of any available parking without having to pay either an extra $28 a day for the hotel valet service, or the more expensive lot parking. So if you plan on staying, be sure to add an extra $30 a day to the room. Second, and more importantly, when my girlfriend and I went to leave, the valet brought the car around, and after we were on the highway and approaching a toll, we realized that money had been taken from the center console. It wasn't a large amount, and luckily we had some more cash for the toll, but that's not really the point. The whole idea of paying for valet is to have the car and it's contents delivered back as it was taken. It definitely left a sour taste in our mouths from an otherwise very enjoyable experience.

Great stay starting with excellent check-in experience at front desk with Ray. Room was nicely appointed and quiet — as we requested. Breakfast was far better than we expected and a good deal if included with room. Looking forward to coming back in warmer weather!

I travel to Portsmouth for business frequently and this is the only hotel where I will stay. From the valet to the front desk staff, to the breakfast staff, to the housekeeping staff, they are top notch.

L really enjoyed this hotel and all the amenities. So convenient to shops, restaurants, and clubs! Valet parking was great, because we didnt need the car all weekend. The breakfast had super service and selection for $15. Only negative was check in was slow and I wasn't pleased with 1st impression. But the room was perfect with decent view out of the 3rd floor — amazing shower. Check out was simple and car brought right away.

We had an excellent stay for 5 nights at this location. It was our first visit to Portsmouth and upon our arrival, Ray greeted us at the front desk happy to provide his recommendations on must go to places while we were in town. This hotel is thw perfect location to walk to all of the best restaurants, bars, and shops in town. Throughout our stay, all of the hotel staff was friendly, our room was cleaned daily and despite the brutally cold weather, the valet service was very prompt. The breakfast was good and bar service from Ryan was excellent. On our last day, we realized we should have asked for late checkout and were pleased to find out that our request could be accomodated. My husband and I were both very pleased and when we return to this darling city, we will definitely return to this hotel.

This is a perfect example of the Hilton Garden Inn experience. The hotel is impeccably maintained and the staff could not be nicer. The location to the downtown area is perfect. A five to ten minute walk to just about anywhere in the area. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting the Portsmouth area.

Great location, but geez there are several others next door that are better. Clean room and a view. Hard to check in as entrance is really an old alleyway. No breakfast included despite website advertising, only to find out it's for the more preferred guests. Whatever. Parking is off-street, which is pricey in an already hard to park location, unless you want to pay for a garage that isn't cheap and is 24 hrs, or hwy robbery prices for valet. One plus, got comped for a soda from the bar… woohoo. Stayed here for the points, but will look elsewhere next time.

My boyfriend and I decided to go to Portsmouth for the night. We decided to stay downtown at the Hilton which unfortunately turned into a mistake. For the most part it ok the rooms were clean, the location was great. However, our toilet had a giant chip in it and part of the shower kept falling off. I would expect this from a less expensive hotel, but not from a hilton. When I told the front desk the gentleman smiled and asked "but how was everything else? ". The front desk did not do anything else about the condition of my room. The part that I am most upset about is not the hotels fault but I watched the valet drive my car over a curb when he was returning it. They did apologize and take the valet charge off my bill. I am sad to say at the end of my stay I am very disappointed and will not return. : (

My family stays at this hotel every year usually more then once. We absolutely love how convenient it is to all the stores and restaurants. This year we came to celebrate my birthday (Oct 25) on Halloween for the Portsmouth parade. We stayed 1 night but it was worth a review. My room was huge, with a beautiful view and at the end of the hallway My main reason for this review is because Nate was extremely patient with me meeting all my requests regarding the room. Even after I was back in CT I had issues with the hold on my card and he was easy to contact and took care of it right away. Thanks Nate & Kyle for a great stay!

The room was immaculate. Wes at the counter helped us get in really late and was super helpful. Gorgeous view from our room too. Loved it here. It's the perfect location for a night on the town. We got drinks and finished off next door at Gas Light. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient.

I enjoyed my stay. The proximity to downtown shops and restaurants is great! Hotel was clean, staff was good. This all changed once I left. I had left some items in the room, my fault for sure, and wanted to get them. I called the resort the same day and left a message with housekeeping. I received a call back a couple days later stating they had my items and if I could call with a ship to address. I called and was sent to the housekeeping voicemail where I left name address phone and asked to call with any issues. My items hadn’t arrived so I called and once again sent to the housekeeping voicemail and have yet to hear back. I have spent time on the phone with customer service while they “search” for the label, after 45 min I’m told it’s check in time and so I’ll have to call later. I call later and am on hold for 30 Mom before being hung up on. Something so simple that could have been addressed quickly and it’s now been over a month. I just want my items.

Great location. Love the surrounding businesses, entertainment and community. The staff was accommodating and allowed for early check-in and late check-out. Only concern is the quality of the room. Carpet had huge red stain… Seemed very pedestrian for cost and location.

This property is modern, clean, in a fantastic location, and provides excellent service. I slept quite well, and enjoyed being within such a short walking distance to all the restaurants and shops downtown. I look forward to the next time I stay here!

My work was using the conference rooms here for a week. The layout of the hotel isnice. It is conveniently located downtown. And the staff were very friendly. My only complaint was that they cleared the coffee stations rather early. That aside, the hotel was great.

Great location, welcoming staff, well appointed rooms with above-average sound proofing. A little on the pricey side, but that's just downtown Portsmouth as a whole.

This is a very classy hotel in a great location. The one major drawback is that there is very limited free parking in the neighborhood, and none at the hotel itself. Valet parking at the hotel was $25, which is steep. All the staff, however, was amazingly polite, friendly and punctual. Very clean, attractive and comfortable rooms. Good bedding, decent pillows.

No complaints about this hotel. Close to all that Downtown Portsmouth has to offer. Very clean and modern, helpful and professional staff. Would stay again.

Everyone was super friendly. There were 5 of us in two rooms and the front desk didn't even bat an eye when we asked to all pay separately and equally. Also had $25 valet for the night! Rooms were very clean. Absolutely no complaints.

Very nice place to stay. Right downtown and convenient and walking distance to many hot spots. My only complaint was the breakfast was expensive for what we got, bacon was dry — but at least it was real bacon. — definitely would stay there again.

I loved this place! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, it was spacious, modern, close to everything in the downtown Portsmouth area AND best of all it was clean! The staff was friendly and the space was wonderful I really enjoyed the stay and would absolutely come again. I highly recommend this hotel.

We met a guest of the hotel for drinks in the beautiful bar and lounge area. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The room was very clean and nice.

You can't get a hotel in a better location than this. I was here for 3 days for business and you can walk almost everywhere from this hotel. Additionally, the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly, and the kids working the valet were prompt and courteous. Additionally, the waiter at breakfast was nice and the chef made excellent omelets. Excellent hotel.

The Good:Location is perfect. You can walk everywhere. It's a really great town to walk around and to have cocktails by the shore. Staff is super nice. Even housekeeping left a cute little note. The Bad:Price — This is a very expensive hotel Valet (LAZ Parking) Parking is difficult and the hotel offers Valet for $22 a day. The valet scratched my new car and then lied about it. They also attempted to double charge me. I recommend using the garage across the street. UPDATE: I received a very nice follow-up from the hotel apologizing for their valet. The response was very professional and I am very happy with the efforts they are making to remedy the situation. Portsmouth is a wonderful town and the hotel is ideally located. I look forward to returning.

This is a place home from home. I have been here a few times and they do remember my name which is so comforting when you have been on a plane for 7 hours! Its like any normal hotel but the Hilton staff always go out their way to make me feel welcome. I am Hilton Silver member so I get my welcome arrival pack, it may only be a few bottles of water and chips, but there is always warm coffee on the go in the lobby and they smile on the faces of the staff always make it a pleasure when I get there. The breakfast menu is great, lots of choice of a healthy and hearty breakfast ready for a long day at the office. After the work the bar is always out first stop for a drink before we head out and I can't fault the staff or choice of beverages that they offer. I really can't imagine staying anywhere else in Portsmouth NH. For great service and a good price this it the go to hotel in Portsmouth.

Beautiful lobby and nice King suite for $250. After a full day of driving it would have been nice to see a bottle of water in our room. Not so.

Very nice Hilton Garden Inn! The lobby is nice and the rooms are immaculate and smell wonderful! My only complaint is the expensive valet parking @$18 per day is $8 too much for the area.

Staff was so friendly and went out of their way for us. Room was clean and spacious and comfortable. Pool was clean and it was enjoyable to sit and watch the kids in the pool without feeling like we were going to pass out due to the heat and humidity in the pool area. We loved that valet took our car and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. Hotel staff suggested several family friendly restaurants to eat at with our 16 year old and 3 year old. River House was 5 mins from the hotel and the hotel staff was excited to hear about our dinner on our return. We enjoyed our stay and will return in June for our anniversary! Only down side was the breakfast, although they had many choices, the food was not that good and next time we'll leave the hotel and find breakfast elsewhere.

Everything about this hotel was great. Service, valet parking people were on top of things. If I'm ever in town again it's a must I stay here.
