Just had my daughters wedding on the rooftop and it was beautiful! Staff very friendly.

Great historic hotel love it.

The hotel was amazing overall, but we were placed in 202 on a Saturday. Apparently, this is directly over the bar. I was told twice (once at 12 in person and a second time at 1245am over the phone) that last call was “soon. ” It was not. It’s currently 1:24am and the yelling and music hasn’t stopped. And THAT IS FINE! but don’t rent the room above it during those times. This is literally awful. I came here to get away, and now I can’t. And the staff, despite my complaint, offered me nothing else.

Honestly, the worst place I've ever stayed. No heat in my room, Wi-Fi not working, no restaurant or bar open as advertised, no staff available to assist after calling, emailing, stopping at the front desk. When I checked out and explained to the staff my issues, the only comment made was, "I wonder if they turned the boiler on last night… " CLEARLY NOT! I had 3 layers of clothes on to stay warm throughout the night. I'm very disappointed with my entire experience. And apparently, management doesn't feel the need to return calls, emails or messages left at the front counter for them. Definitely NO RETURNS TO THE LAFAYETTE! If I could give less than 1 star, it would happen. Good luck to anyone who decides to make the choice to stay here. There are many QUALITY stay options in Marietta. Do your research, chat with the locals!

Amazing place, in every way possible.

My daughter had her wedding and reception in the ballroom and the staff was amazing. They went the extra mile on every detail to make sure her day was perfect. The food was delicious. Highly recommend.

We have been going here for 20 years. Never again. Staff was rude. Yes, I understand you are having staffing issues. But that is no reason to be incompetent.

Atmosphere and surroundings plus loads of friendly people. The historic decor is beautiful and rooms are clean.

My family and I were visiting other family members last weekend in Marietta. (We are from out of town) One of our cousins suggested The Lafayette Hotel for dinner. He talked about how nice the hotel is and how great the food is. So we decided to go the The Lafayette for dinner. There were 10 of us. We arrived around 7:20 and around 7:32 a server came to our table. She informed us that the kitchen stopped cooking at 7:50 but would remain open for us. We all ordered. About an hour later, after waiting and waiting, only half of our entrees came out. We received 6 of the four meals and 4 of those 6 were cold. Our children never got their meals AT ALL! When we brought this to the attention of the server, she got upset and got the chef. The chef came out and started crying also. She told us she never received the childrens' orders nor another order. (Our server did not write anything down when she took the order) She, the chef, walked off and never came back. Neither did our server. We asked several times to speak with a manager and were told there was no manager on duty at all. We were floored. Needless to say we left without eating and wasted over 2 hours. We found the management to be pretty bad since there was none and NOTHING was done to fix the situation. This was one of the worst experiences ever.

We were at the Lafayette hotel for a professional event but did also order from the coffee bar and look around. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the nostalgic feel of the place and loved walking around and seeing the sites. Inside was very comfortable and the restrooms were very nice and clean.

Beautiful location on the Ohio River. The food was very tasty! Very clean interior and beautifully decorated in old style.

This is an old hotel. The furnishings are old, the wood work is old, the rooms are small but I loved it. This place has a feeling of days gone by. But I love it. The staff was great and always helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

I stopped by to get a feel of the place as I had never been in before. More importantly, I had to use the restroom; ithe entrance was right there. I was impressed with the decor of the lobby and surrounding halls. Looks real classy.

What a fantastic piece of history! Each room is set up different and it adds to the character of the building! Could use some TLC but everyone was friendly and we had a great view from our room!

What a unique hotel! We were very glad we stayed here. Excellent value for a great location, with free on-site parking. Easily walk to a handful of parks, restaurants, and other locations. The hotel was charming and nice. Be sure to notice the carpet in the lobby. The staff was warm and accommodating. The room was clean and well appointed. Loved the green bathroom. It was very hot and humid but the air conditioning worked very well to keep the doom comfortable. Definitely smelled like an old building in some places stronger than others. Wish there was roof top access!

The was our second stay at The Lafayette Hotel and we enjoyed it very much. Our only disappointment was in the Gun Room restaurant. They apparently have a new chef, and the food was sub-par at best. The prices increased in the restaurant but the food quality decreased. Don't let this deter you from staying at this lovely historical hotel.

Nice clean and very old atmosphere. Good food and has a nice bar. Love the ohio river looking out of the beedroom.

Unbelievable. Use to like this place. Not no more. Booked 2 rooms called 3 times to make sure of the price. Did a late check in. The woman kept adding more money. Completely took every dime we had. Kids was thirsty got refused drinks for them, people was rude. I use to come down here for lunch also. But sad to say I will not be back. Will not recommend at all. Never been treated so bad.

The rooms have grand grand old fashion furniture. The bed was firm which is exactly how I like them. We had a room plus a suite that had two bedrooms and a dining, kitchen & large living room with gorgeous furniture.

This is an unforgettable place. You come for the history and experience. The rooms can be on the smaller side, but who cares? Many historical details were preserved. The staff was very kind. Our river view was perfect. Loved this experience!

Room 308 — — ate at the bar room. So, so but good view of the river. Recommend for drinks or apps.

The Lafayette is a charming hotel with a great location in downtown Marietta. It is a quick walk to many great dining establishments and areas of historical interest. Walking around the hotel you really do get a sense of how impressive it must have been back in the day. The hotel is not very updated with modern furnishings so if you are looking to kick back in some of that old-world charm there is a lot to enjoy. We stayed in the Riverview King Parlor with Balcony (room 208). The description of the room on the website says “This grand room has one king sized bed, a private balcony, and a parlor that offers guests a comfortable sitting area that lets them sit back, relax and take in the views of the Ohio River. ” However, this is not an accurate description of the room we stayed in. The high ceilings are nice but the room is not much larger than your standard hotel room. Given the hotel’s age I guess this is understandable. However, the “parlor” is just an empty mini bar and two regular chairs next to the bed. It is not remotely possible to see the river from the “parlor”. In fact, you don’t get a good view of the river from the balcony either. A better description would have been “balcony with view of the buildings across the street”. The river can be seen if you sit on the far edge of the balcony. Unfortunately, it’s in the background past the street and parking lot.

Ate at the Gun Room. First time. I was pleasantly surprised. They had a very good buffet with a made to order omlette station. The young man making it was like a professional. I think they could have it laid out differently. The meat was with the desert table and the salad. The sides were across from that. We got there in time for lunch. I magine they switched the sides out for lunch. .

Old hotel, almost a museum inside. A lot of very interesting photos and descriptions of Marietta. Full bar and restaurant, large meeting rooms available. Street side or river side rooms. Go with river if available, great views. Was in the teens when there in January. Slept well but found out in the morning we had not made full use of there heat system. So ask front desk about that, they were helpful. By know means your some old hotel, very unique. Lots to see with in a nice walk.

Hotel has great potential, could use some updates in the rooms and hallways. Bring back the historic charm with some renos. Clean comfy bed. Bathroom clean and well lit. No windows one could look out in our room, frosted glass on window. Location ideal, but perhaps not in flooding season. Beautiful historic town.

We participated in the Haunted Hotel lockdown. What a blast. Really enjoyed hearing the history of the hotel. The tour. And being able to roam the hotel at night with the paranormal group. 15 yr old Grandson said it was the best Christmas gift ever. * score for Grandma ;)

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel. It's worth just walking in to see the beautiful ceiling and furniture. There is an old fashioned telephone booth and a gift shop with surprisingly cheap gifts.

I loved this hotel! the quaint rooms were wonderful. It felt special and romantic. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom is small which was a drawback. Loved the restaurant and bar. Looking forward to going back.

Love this place. Spooky and cozy at the same time. And they have good food. Had thanksgiving dinner here, would definitely do again. 10/10

The hotel rooms are interestingly decorated, and the interior of the hotel is very nice. The bed, however, is merely adequate, and many of the drawers don't actually open. Shampoo and conditioner are combined in one tube. Breakfast is excellent, I suspect the restaurants are much better than the hotel. Maybe the rooms that overlook the water are better, I haven't tried those.

Beautiful historical hotel in downtown Marietta and next to the riverfront. Walking distance to shops and dining. Hotel rooms are decorated in Victorian decor and priced at or below a chain hotel. They also have a bar and restaurant. It's very romantic.

I very much enjoyed my stay and highly recommend the Lafayette to anyone looking to take a vacation to the lovely, history-rich town of Marietta, Ohio. I stayed 2 nights. Check in is at 3pm. I arrived around 2:30 and was given my key immediately, which was nice. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. My room was impeccably clean, and the decor was absolutely gorgeous. I'm so glad the bed was nice and firm, too. The rooms remain a bit chilly when it's cold outside despite the heat being on, though. That's my only complaint. I love everything else about this place. The history is wonderful. The antique decor is charming. The location is perfect because it's close to so many great local shops, museums, and restaurants. It added a new level of enjoyment to my vacation in Marietta. There was an art and craft show going on in the ballroom during my stay, too, which was absolutely wonderful. I will definitely stay at the Lafayette next time I'm in town.

If you're into historic buildings, you'll love it. The cabin room with the double bed is the smallest and cheapest (we paid around $50), but, from what I saw online, by far the coolest. You definitely can't beat it for the price, and the town is great.

Stopped for lunch with a small group. Food was good and the atmosphere was quiet and cozy. Decorated like a sternwheeler. Appropriately so being so close to the Ohio River.

Stephanie (sp) the bartender was great. She had no problem dealing with and making five hungry and thirsty guys happy. We can be a rowdy bunch, but she served us and joked with us with a high level of professionalism yet personal service I expect from such an excellent venue.

Marietta Ohio has such an interesting history … such an old city that staying at this historic hotel is like a step back in time. The old style elevator I noticed right away. The architecture was wonderful as was the food. Just outside and from some windows a view of the grand Ohio River. Beautiful in the mornings as the fog lifts from the waters surface. I believe there is a resident ghost on the 3rd floor or at least that is what staff had told me when I mentioned an eerie feeling. I always stay here when in Marietta… it is the best place to be during the festivals. Its not unusual at all to see a revolutionary time British soldier walk by during Red, White and Blues Festival or walk out the front door for a concert on the river. A brewery is in the same block, a walking path out back leads thru the park along the Muskingum. Beautiful city!

Classic charming steamboat-style hotel overlooking the Ohio River. Definitely not a ho-hum cookie-cutter corporate chain hotel! It's the perfect base for your exploration of the amazing history of Marietta and surrounding areas.

I love staying at the Lafayette. Many of the rooms have a neat theme, and are comfortable. The hotel's location makes it easy to sight see around downtown Marietta. There are also many resturants within easy walking distance besides the Gunroom in the hotel itself. I like to have a room with a view of the river.

Our stay at The Lafayette hotel was a wonderful experience! Staff was so friendly and willing to help in any way they can. I highly recommend this hotel if you appreciate history and antiques. Our room was full of antique furniture. The city of Marietta is full of history and extremely friendly people!

The popcorn treat was a wonderful change from the usual chips at other places. The view was great we could see the river. The food was awesome we roast beef mashed potatoes gravy. Loved it.

Nice old historic hotel. The amenities are as dated as you might expect, but that's not a bad thing. I enjoyed the room decorations, bar room, and lobby for their historic nature. I will stay here again during my next Marietta trip.

The four of us, which includes two preschoolers, had a great stay. We didn't see any ghosts, but we did receive a lot of good hospitality.

If you do not like history and like the idea of an old hotel with uneven creeky floors go spend 100 bucks and stay at a corporate American hotel. The hotel had TONS of character and made the stay quite enjoyable. Even with the the fact of it being 100 years old it was clean and can tell that it is well taken care of. The staff was friendly and helpful. We visited out of town for a wedding and found this hotel and decided to try it. Had a great stay and enjoyed exploring the hotel and the history that is behind it. We will be back for a get away weekend!

The front desk was very hospitable, they lost our reservation, but made it right. Neat historical place. Kind of dated, but it is a river boat era hotel.

Stayed here for alumni basketball tournament. Close to all the bars and restaurants downtown. King size bed was super comfortable. It was like I was sleeping at home. Reasonable price as well.

This is a lovely turn of the century grand hotel. The room was period appointed and had a fantastic view of the Ohio River. Dinner and breakfast at the Gun Room was outstanding and more reasonably priced than expected. The Riverside Lounge was fantastic and Leah, the bartender was friendly, accommodating and helped make for a pleasurable evening. All the staff were helpful and added to our enjoyment.

If you're not coming here for the historical nature then absolutely steer clear. First room I had was ~85 degrees as the radiator was running nonstop, AC unit non functional. 2nd room had a hacky window AC unit. Both rooms are very small by any hotel standard. Wi-Fi is borderline useless. Squeaky and uneven floors (great if you love the "full experience") staff was very blahblahblah and would not at all lend themselves to a historical experience. Bed comfortable. Lots of events to coordinate with. Very friendly to huge groups, bad for families. Water plenty hot and a clean bathroom.

The culture is great, its a historical landmark in Marietta. The view out to the river is nice. The have banquet rooms, I have visited for different occasions. The food they provide if the only thing I do not like. At the different conventions, the mothers day luncheons, etc. Food was never good.

I live in the area and have been to this hotel many times for other occasions in the past and haven't had any issues. I love the history and style of the hotel and how it sits right on the river. However, this time, I did not have a pleasant experience. We had a large group of 18 people attending the comedy club. We called in advanced to reserve our front row tables. Also checked in hours beforehand to reconfirm. When we arrived at the show they had given our tables to another party and wanted to put us in the very back because the party wouldn't move. They ended up trying to accommodate us by cramming our tables up front with a poor view and blocked the entrance. The drinks were overpriced. I paid $6 for a drink and found out the hard way it was bottom shelf liquor. Asked for top shelf and paid $10. That's high for this area. I don't think after that experience I'll go back for another show.

Stayed 10/9 — 10/11/15 on the 2nd floor with room overlooking the Ohio River and such a great view. Able to open windows for fresh air. Room super clean, staff super friendly and so nice. Food at the hotel was excellent and you don't feel rushed to eat, so you can enjoy your meal and the company you are with. If you love to stay in historical places this is the place to stay. It is old, but very charming and there is outside deck of the top of the 3rd floor were you can view the Ohio River on one side and the town of Marietta on the other side.
