Stayed 4 nights with the kids 3rd week of July. Extremely nice and helpful staff! Rooms were clean. Hotel right on the waters edge. Nice beach. Guy on an ATV would scrape and level the sand every morning so it looked nice for the day. All in all a great place to stay. Continental breakfast was a decent spread.

Nice rooms, clean. Well-maintained, and well cleaned. The location is very good. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area, but close enough that you can get there for dinner or outings. The beach is lovely. I particularly like the depth of this portion of the East bay when traveling with young children. They can go 40 or 50 feet from shore and still only be chest deep. There’s a free continental breakfast buffet and watercraft available for rental on the beach. The staff are very good.

The recent renovations they've done were great! The room was very clean, nicely decorated. We had a room that was right on the beach and the views were just amazing. Staff was friendly also. Only complaint was breakfast options could have been better, but not bad for complimentary breakfast. We will be back here next time we're in town.

For the price we paid I expected more. It’s all in the details. You leave for the day and at the least you should come back to refreshed towels and made beds, every level of hotel I’ve stayed at does this. I was told they have to take care of the new arrivals first, so I guess once they get my money they don’t care. It’s the little things that make a big difference for me.

Stayed here with my wife for an overnight anniversary trip. We booked the room earlier the same day, drove up, and were immediately impressed with the incredibly friendly staff. They weren't the forced "because I work customer service" friendly that we are all used to seeing, either. Room was very clean, and nice! We were so close to the water, we could hear it lapping with the slider door cracked open. Also, got periodic texts from the front desk just to check on everything. Very excited to go back!

Great for a quick trip with kids. Location had an indoor pool and a beach, perfect for our kids. The room was clean, updated, a great size, and affordable.

Love the atmosphere here and being right on the beach! You can walk out of your room straight to the beach. Breakfast is overlooking the beach as well, so relaxing. Hot tub, pool and game room. Staff is very friendly as well.

This hotel was amazing. Our room was right on the beach, open the door and there was the sand. The pool was nice, hot tub was awesome. They had a cute little store with snacks and t shirts. Staff was very nice and professional. Our stay was in the the spring when it was still cold out so we didn't get use of the lake but I would stay here again. Breakfast was good too!

Sugar Beach is a wonderful gem on the bay! The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean and my personal favorite, the bathroom in my room, was beautifully decorated! It sounds silly but you can tell there was a lot of thought and time put into it. The view from the breakfast room was right out on the bay and is stunning! I will come back!

This is our favorite spot to stay! People at the desk are always friendly. Rooms are big and always clean and very comfy bed! We will continue to stay here everytime we stay in travers city.

Staff was super welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and the temperature was easy to change up or down. View was very nice, even for winter. Pool and hot tub were nice temps and didn't have too much chlorine. Overall enjoyable experience.

Stayed there for a weekend defiantly would again! Some of the best customer service I have ever received. Nice room as well. Overall great place.

Glad I paid off season prices. Broken door latches, doors that have been clearly forcibly removed, half finished patch jobs, coffee grinders at 3am in the food prep area next to our room, room service that just comes in your room unannounced and electrical outlets with no covers. I feel like we got party room in a half finished hotel. Defiantly not a 4* resort. The best part was the dismissive "manager" whos only response was "Ill send someone to look at it".

Just love this place! Went there 2 times in the summer and 1 time for fall. Of course summer was exciting because of all the water fun. Fall was nice for color.

Size of rooms where great. Very nice staff. Will definitely be returning.

Nice rooms and building. Breakfast was lacking somewhat. Wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't anything to write home about. Clean building and rooms.

This is a beautiful hotel and we got a great price for it. Everything was clean and smelled good. It's right on the beach and we didn't originally book a room with a view but we requested to upgrade when we arrived and the employee Frances found one available. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They had free parking breakfast and Wi-Fi. The pool was nice as well. They also offer the option to communicate with hotel staff through texting and they respond immediately. The only complaint I had was the alarm clock in our room was already set for 6 am and we were not very happy to wake up to that unexpectedly. Other than that it was a wonderful stay and I would absolutely recommend!

This is our third stay at this resort. We love it here. The property is beautiful. The beach is very nice. The staff are helpful, friendly, and proactive.

The rooms are spacious and are kept very clean. This hotel is very close to the kayak rentals. If you want to save some money on breakfast, try the waffles! It's included in your stay. You also get a nice beach view with your breakfast.

Sugar beach resort; bitter sweet. We have 10 and 7 yo, and have stayed here multiple times. The hotel rooms being steps away from the beach with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and market across street is ideal. Rooms are clean, and for us, being out to sleep with the sounds of the water is amazing. Unfortunately, we left a portable game system that was stolen by the hotel cleaning staff. We realized we had forgotten it with in an hour of driving south, contacted the hotel, and the system had already been taken. We pleaded with the staff to confront whom ever cleaned the room, but no help. Of course we should keep better track of our things, but for a family that loved and has stayed at this place maybe 5 times over the past few years we were hoping for a little more support.

Nice place, great beach. No frills though such as restaurant/room service or spa services but you still get s resort fee. If you are looking for Parasailing, SUP boards, kayaking or boating. It's a good place to be. Beautiful views from balcony.

The rooms are nice, proximity to the beach and entertainment are great. When the weather is less than fabulous, the pool gives you the ability to swim. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

For a last minute booked trip to Traverse City, the Sugar Beach Resort Hotel was the most affordable for peak summer vacation season while also being on the beach. The location of the hotel is close to downtown Traverse City, approx 10 min, and many things to do around. The rooms at the hotel are clean, with good pillows and linens. The sofa bed is adequate for two teens or so. The room is perfectly good for a stay at traverse city with its beach access and parasailing/jet ski activities available right behind. Breakfast here is a little limited with mainly waffles or pastries available, but it is completely passable. Service at the hotel has been fine with the exception that when checking in there was no one at the front desk for 5 minutes as someone who was watching over the pool had to come over to assist us with checkin. Overall, a decent hotel to stay on vacation in Traverse City.

Their front desk staff needs some training. Called them 5 times to inquire about something. Each time the lady there sounded bored and clueless. And then resorted put us on 15 minutes hold to the point we had to hang up and call back each time. My wife called them twice and this lady put her on hold. I called on another occasion and experienced the same situation 3 times. Pathetic. We were going to book 2 rooms with these losers for 3 nights each for a family trip to Traverse City. And just like that, due to this bored, uninitiated women who was eager to get rid of us over the phone, they just lost ~$2, 100 worth of business. Good job, way to run a business!

We had a wonderful stay last night! Everything has been remodeled. Fresh paint and all new rooms. Helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast was great. Price was very affordable! Will definitely be back.

Beautiful hotel on the beach! They have just remodeled Sugar Beach resort and it's wonderful! Very clean, stylish and super friendly service. Breakfast is served from 7-10 am and you get a lovely view of the lake while you eat. I would gladly come back here and highly recommend it!

Breakfast couldnt be better! A whole array of foods from cereal to homemade self serve waffles! Staff was friendly, hotel was very clean throughout.

The place is nice and clean. The room are charming. The view is amazing right in front of the lake. Also have a nice indoor pool. Have a great location. The decor is nice. Good value / price.

This hotel has been the place to be for me for many years. It has a pool / hot tub. Beach front access. Free breakfast too.

Amazing views of the Bay.

Spent a weekend over Spring Break and loved it! Great Distance from town and attractions! The staff were wonderful and the location was beautiful — Aside from our room which faced a raddy apartment building. :P The breakfast was delicious! I ate probably too much, but it was superb fare! The Bedrooms were spacious. And that's saying something coming from a family of Seven! The bathrooms were great and the bed space was just fine! The pool and hot tub were nice! It was updated and modern for the most part, and the exercise room was good sized and neat. Along with the arcade, I enjoyed the pool table in the separate room. Nice warm lobby and round the clock coffee! I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

We rented a room with a king size bed and a bayview. The location was wonderful, and the view was exquisite. The room was little on the small side. The bed was comfortable, but could have used more bedding; the heater was difficult to set to a comfortable temperature. The staff were very friendly. The television was far too old to still be used in a "resort. " Sugar Beach, please call my grandmother to arrange for her to pick up her television! :o).

Great room, friendly service. Would have given 5 stars if breakfast had been better. Slim pickings on the continental breakfast.

Stayed here in the summer of 2010. Excellent area, perfect beach and decent resort. If the rooms were a little more modern, and the beds actually comfortable, this review would have been 'excellent' all the way across.

Great place to stay for the value. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Will stay again, good location and amenities. Only complaint is there was no type of protein or meat offered with breakfest.
