Don’t recommend staying here called made a reservations they gave me a booking price sent me an email then went and got down there they did not want to Honor the price that was given to me and on my email confirmation not trustworthy.

They have bed bugs, do not sleep here.

DO NOT book this specific hotel. They are unwilling to understand circumstances that led to me canceling our hotel this weekend. I provided them 48 hrs notice. Despite being at almost full capacity due to the a national soccer tournament, they will not refund my one night stay without charging me the FULL rate.

Renee at the front desk was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly! She did everything she could to make our stay comfortable. The front desk morning person and breakfast attendant were also friendly but we didn’t catch their names. The rooms were not cleaned thoroughly and there were dirty towels in the room, no clean ones. Renee did get us new ones! I do not recommend staying here.

After hours of driving and mostly all full hotels in the area we got here and I have to state one positive Renee the front desk lady on Aug 21 around 8pm was great. The credit card machine was not working due to us using 2 different credit cards and then the machine saying declined and then we got on the phone with our bank and then renee made it happen and we finally went to our room. We just wanted a night of rest and the $180 room was all we found. When we went up the room although thankful that we finally found a room and were looking forward to atleast a suite with a king bed, and all we thought we paid for, it was NOT AT ALL! It was very disappointing for the $$ we paid. The room was hot, the carpet dirty, the shower curtain dirty, the 2 couches dirty. Its like the hotel is going through a transition and instead of lowering the prices due to this dirty transition they raised the $$ prob due to the demand in the area and to be greedy. Then to top it off the lady probably owner (Aug 22 around 8am) when we were checking out was extremely rude no customer service that was giving out the so called continental breakfast needs to really get some people training. Will not return and get better people to work the morning check out front desk like Renee. Posting pictures of the huge disappointment!

I reserved stay for 2 nights! Upon checking into my room the toilet was clogged, the carpets and tub was dirty and had a ring around the tub as if it wasn’t cleaned at all. We were given another room and the refrigerator and the air conditioner did not work! We were then told there were no more rooms available, so we decided to keep the room with the clogged toilet, per you could flush after patience with it. I wiped the tub down to at least take a shower and the tub was clogged! The walls and floor in the bathroom was dirty as well again as if the room was not cleaned at all prior to us checking in! The front desk rep. She did what she could be a night rep. Came in and he was very young and his attitude was terrible as if he hated his job and didn’t want to come in anyway! His attitude about the complaints were that there were no more rooms and we would have to wait on the manager the next morning! I checked out and got a room at anther hotel! 😡 this place needs 0 starts! It needs to be shut down for renovations, updated and hire ALL new staff or train the ones they have better!

Clean room and bathroom. Breakfast wasn't great but we prefer to explore local restaurants any way. Didn't use the pool, can't comment on that. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would stay again.

A friend was charged $250.00 for smoke damage. She does not smoke and has a special needs child who uses oxygen. Nice scam people!

Terrible Terrible Terrible Charged my cousin $250. For smoke damage. My cousin doesn't smoke, her daughter's nurse that was with her doesn't smoke and certainly her 6 year old daughter on oxygen doesn't smoke. The manager was just as useless when she contacted the hotel and told her that he believed his employees. The manager and staff should be ashamed of themselves for this false charge to this family, disgusting. I wouldn't even give 1 star to this place but it wouldn't allow me to give 0.

DO NOT STAY HERE! My cousin just had a terrible experience. Was charged $250. For smoke damage, which is impossible. My cousin doesn't smoke, her daughter's nurse who was with her doesn't smoke and certainly her six year old daughter who uses oxygen doesn't smoke. When contacting the manager the response was that he believed his employees. How do you sleep at night… disgusting.

Late check in, staff that complained about working. And we got a $250 smoke damage charge. I was there with my 6 year old daughter and her nurse. My daughter uses oxygen and we don’t allow any smoke near her. I was told they believe their employees over me so they won’t reverse the charges. Very terrible experience.

This hotel is in dire need of an update. The staff was very good, but they are bailing water from a sinking ship. The AC is poorly designed in the suites, the bathrooms are falling apart, and the mattresses are uncomfortable.

This place is horrible, overpriced. Poor customer service and straight up rude when I cancelled reservations because of their lack of customer service. Very poor experience.

Clean and comfortable room. Very friendly staff. The hot breakfast was good, too. Will stay there every time we come to Portage, MI!

Nice large room with working Jacuzzi tub. Hot breakfast included the ladies did a wonderful job keeping up with demand. Well worth the little extra money.

I wouldn't come back…
I was only here for a mini vaca with my three Granddaughters and my mom, for 3 days.
We had to move into 3 different rooms… first room (Double Queen) issues: hair dryer cracked, face plate on outlet loose — not covering wires, bath tub faucet — would not stop dripping and bathroom infested with ants — took pics to show person at front desk — (had to be sprayed). The manager asked us if we wanted to move. Yes! She was very nice about it. We moved over to the second room (king Suite — upgraded), left hotel to get lunch, came back to room, walked in to use the bathroom and the floor was covered with ants. Took pics to show the manager at the front desk. Move to the third room, upstairs, also a King Suite. I could tell the person at the front desk was tired of talking to me about the issues we have had so, I didn't bother to tell him about the issues with the third room… remote doesn't work for the TV (Not a battery problem), microwave doesn't work unless you hold the the door release button.
As for the rest of the hotel… The pool area was a huge disappointment … freezing cold air coming in through vents, room was dark — two lights out of six on, heated pool was ice water, (tried to get use to it for about 15 minutes — not a chance! ). Everyone from manager to the housekeeping staff were very nice but, that does change the fact that I spent $300.00 to be inconvenienced three different times and we couldn't even enjoy the pool.

I'm disabled my walker will not fit in restroom. No safety bars in shower or bath. Room was the last unit in the back, so not at all convenient. Staff was sweet for my grand children.

Horrible! Don't stay! My husband and I and put 2 kids stayed one night and left even though we had booked for 2 nights when we checked in the lady was extremely rude and when we got to the room the people next door were so loud we couldn't even hear our own TV I called down shortly after we checked in and the lady was still extremely rude to me and the noise didnt stop until between 3 and 4 am then the next day after going to the air zoo for the day we came back to take the kids swimming and when we walked in the pool area it was freezing cold and the water was to and to top it off the water was green and the pool was slimy and looked like the bottom was covered in slime. The walls were growing mild and fungus before I could stop my kids they jumped in so I had to take them back to the room and shower them both extremely well so they didnt catch or end up with some type of infection while in the shower my sone slips and falls injuring his leg and gets a pretty nice scratch across his rib cage because the tub was so slippery from not being cleaned right when I talked to the manager she said she would have to look into it and let me know if she was gonna refund me for the first night and then acted like I was lying about the noise I have never stayed at a more horrible place before between the place it's self and the people that work there I couldnt Believe how they are treating us we checked out shortly after talking to the manager and drove the 3 hours back home.

Service/Housekeeping The front desk is really helpful and considerate. Housekeeping is very good and also helpful for requests. Although the Housekeeping only has 2 vaccums in the entire hotel, the tools are also dated. Breakfast Breakfast is pretty good, Waffle maker with condiments of strawberry syrup, powdered sugar, and cinnamon. They also have toast and muffins. Basic cereal. Multiple drink choices and coffee area also has oatmeal. Room Quality The room is very big for what it’s worth. Beds are comfy, sheets are clean and the room came very clean too. The toilet had a very strong and loud flush. The bath/shower was pretty nice but I heard from other people that some rooms have bad piping in the bath/shower. The walls are thin so you can hear other people running water. Location It’s really close to the airport, so close where you can hear the planes touching down and lifting off. It wasn’t a problem for me but it could be for other people. Other then that it’s close to Sky Zone, a nice place for kids to get out their energy. Also connects to the highway and Portage Rd. Pool Very warm and clean pool. Pretty nice but it’s not much. Other Ammenites Business Area — Nice computer and printer. Wireless Internet — Very fast and it got stuff done. Good for streaming (Netflix, Hulu etc. ) Good for gaming (I played gta 5 online on my xbox and it didn’t lag. ) It’s also good for business. (emailing, calling etc.

This hotel has seen better days. Dated, dusty rooms and uncomfortable beds. The walls are rather thin, as if I could make out the full conversation going on in the room next to mine. Dead ants in the corner of the room. The grossest thing is that the water from the facet and bathtub/shower is YELLOW. Totally gross.

The Hotel was run down. The bathroom was dirty. The hallways had a bad odor. The carpet in the room was dirty. The sheets were old and one was inside out. Wonder if they just turned them over. When we complained the young person at the front desk didn't try to seem to really care. She just said oh I'm sorry and still charged us way too much for the condition of the room. Ok, so it is obvious that this is a rather old hotel for starters. Secondly, not a lot of money is spent on beutifing the place. The breakfast has room for improvement. The kinda guy I am… if the place is clean, and not very worn, and everything works, I'm good with it, the hotel met my requirements on those issues. If I visit the area again, will spend a little more effort looking for an improvement in another hotel. Nice housekeeping staff.

Friendly, affordable, appealing, fairly quiet, convenient location. The "executive suite" has separate bedroom and living room, nice when one is sleeping and the other awake. The full, hot breakfast was a good start to the day.

Had a last minute booking deal online for a suite, at a good price. Front desk was not helpful. They had prominent signage discussing military and veteran rates and upgrades; normally I don't bother bringing it up as it's a hassle, but I figured I'd ask about it, since I am a vet. "No, you already have the best rate. " "Oh, OK, no big deal. What about the room upgrade it mentions? " *blank stare* Got to room, it doesn't have a pack n play, as requested. Call front desk, am told they don't have any. Considering they were mentioned at the hotel's website, this is odd. Bathtub spews yellow water, like their water softener has long since been exhausted, and iron is plentiful. Bed is among the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. Hard and lumpy. Ceiling looks like they ripped the drywall off to give it a faux-industrial look with exposed joists, but it just ends up looking incomplete and odd. All in all, it's a room at a decent price, but not one that I would stay at again. Below the standard I've usually seen at Country Inn and Suites.

Update: We left our daughter's toy there and after almost a month since we had stayed there, they still had it and shipped it back to us right away. Very impressed with that! It is nice hotel, the employees were nice and accommodating. The location is a little confusing to find if you don't know the area but once we found the correct road it was fine. We got a two queen beds room and there was a pull out couch also, which we didn't need but was a nice extra. The rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast (eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, pastries, bagels, oatmeal, cereal). Overall, I enjoyed the one night stay we had.

Overall, the stay was nice for a night. We stayed back in July and I recently realized my daughter was missing a stuffed animal, I called to see if it was there and the first time I called the person told me no it wasn't. I called again a week later to double check and was told they had the item we were missing (and another one we were missing and didn't realize it was there). Different person the second time, so I'm not sure what the difference was but I was thankful to find our items. They promptly got back to me about it and sent it out in the mail to us! Very appreciative for the extra effort and still having my item about a month later.

Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the many other hotels in town, at least until this place gets their act together. This Country Inn clearly lacks competent leadership. The Wi-Fi in our room was extremely spotty so we used the internet connection on our phones instead. The room was only. Partially cleaned with hair in the bathtub and pillowcases. Most of the previous reviews are accurate. However, some people are ignorant. Just because someone looks like a child does not mean it's child labor. Companies are required to hire certain number of disabled employees under the American Disability Act. She was slow, but she was friendly. There may also have been a drug deal in parking lot as we were packing up the car. Definitely not for a place for a family with kids. Very disappointed.

I stayed here two weeks ago and this is the worst hotel experience I ever had. The front desk person who checked me in was extremely slow and did not know how to do her job properly. I had to ask myself if this place uses child labor after seeing the front desk employee. She looked extremely malnourished and looked like she just finished elementary school. My daughter in middle school looks more mature than she does. The actual room had a really bad smell that kept me up at night. The breakfast food was okay, but I have had better at other places. I also overheard the employees talking about the owner hiring a convicted criminal as the general manager. After the general manager was hired, he robbed not only guests, but also hotel employees. Country Inn Corporate needs to shut down this hotel. I plan to writing to corporate regarding this.

We had a horrible experience at a competitive place and Country Inn was a very pleasant surprise. The room was clean, beds were clean, breakfast was even good. Cavi at the front counter was awesome. They need to give her a raise!

This is by far the worst hotel experience I have had in the Kalamazoo area. I do come to the area frequently for business purposes. I thought I would give this hotel a try. Unfortunately, the rooms were so dirty and strongly smelled of cigarettes. There were very noticeable stains on the bed sheets. It is obvious they do not change the bed sheets even if there are stains left as a result of the activities of the previous guests. I felt like I was living in a motel, not a hotel. I could not sleep given the poor noise insulation. Please save yourself some trouble and avoid this hotel at all costs. I will be emailing corporate directly to address these and other concerns. It is obvious that the management does not care about the quality of this particular hotel. It is places like this that ruin the brand.

I am giving it a one only because the cleaning staff was great, always making sure if things that we need. The front desk gets no stars. They refused to refill the creamer and sugar for coffee. They were rude with not only me but with other customers in front of others. They stuck their noses in the air at us as if we were low life's. I will never return to this place and I will let others know not to stay here!

Easily the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. Check in was at3pm but we weren't given a room until after 3:30pm. Our keys have stopped working every day, so we cannot get back into the building let alone our room unless we first stop by the front desk to has new keys made each time (this has happened to 5 different family members all staying in different rooms, and none of us keep our keys by our cell phones). Breakfast was bleak, most items were not available at all so we had a very limited selection. Our room had no towels when we arrived and it was a fight to get towels from the staff, who all seem to be unaware of what their job descriptions are. Don't book a room with this company/hotel location unless you have absolutely no other options.

Rooms were clean, however ours smelled like smoke in a non-smoking room. Pool is small. Only 2 chairs at two tables to watch my children in the pool. Otherwise you have to stand while your kids swim. Breakfast was decent. People at the front desk were very nice. I probably wouldn't stay again.

The breakfast is not recommended; I really like the room, has a room, two televisions, refrigerator, microwave oven. Has a pool and a small gym with 4 appliances.

Nice rooms, breakfast in the morning is convenient, and the staff is very friendly. Chelsea went above and beyond on a very busy Friday night. She is very friendly, and took care of all issues or questions, & honestly because of that we will be back soon! Thank you again Chelsea!

The complimentary pillows were fantastic and the hearts on the toilet paper were very red. The washing machine worked just about as well as expected.

The room of the conference was good but I didn't really see any workers so I cannot attest to that.

Easy on and off the highway. Had a problem with our room and they moved us to a new larger room without any hesitation.

Just what we needed for a few hours of sleep on our road trip. The rooms were a bit outdated but the bed was comfortable enough.

Saw a bed bug on my bed in the morning and brought them home.

Showers are lukewarm at best! When you come in from the snowy, upper 20s Michigan late-fall — — chilled to the bones and all you want is a hot shower, look somewhere else. The disappointing maximum water temperature in the shower is an epic fail here, folks. If you're like me and want a hot shower, don't stay here! Breakfast was nice, staff was friendly, room was nice looking. I had a suite. My only other complaint is the temperature differences between the rooms. Because of the layout and placement of the heating unit, the bedroom was toasty while the living room stayed cool. I would imagine the opposite is true in the summer.

As a blind individual, as I checked in I got the upmost respect and help from the staff. Once in my room I found that it was not clean at all. The toilet was dirty (I cleaned it before I used it) the tub was nasty (again I cleaned before I used it) The noise was horrifying in the hallways and nothing was done about it even after I called the front desk. After staying in another Country Inn and Suites in Denver, CO we were very VERY unhappy. As far as the breakfast went, the eating area was way to small and the food was very minimal. My husband had to wait appx. 10 minutes to even make a waffle and by the time his was done I was already done eating what I had taken to eat. This was supposed to be a weekend together as I have been going to school here since Feb. And just wanted some alone time with my Seeing Eye dog and my husband it was very unsettling and we DEFINATELY will not return.

Bathroom was moldy with cracked pain. There were bugs (roly poly and an earwig in the shower). Hairs on the towels. Crickets chirped all night long in the room. TV didn't have any AV hook up for DVD player. Save your money — sleep elsewhere.
