Dated and dingy. Their staff is useless. Left a pair of diamond earrings on the bedside by mistake and their house cleaning staff kept them. Their security director could not have cared less about trying to help. Would never stay here again and do not recommend to anyone.

Great Experience even from check-in.

From check in to check out everyone was so nice and accommodating. We had dinner and drinks at the A Bar and we left all the decisions for eating and drinking to the bartender. He absolutely did not disappoint. Great food and even better conversation. My wife and I would highly recommend staying at the Atheneum anytime you are in the Detroit area. Safe and secure and well priced. Can't wait to visit again.

If it wasn’t for where they were located and their spacious rooms, and beds. This place would be your Average hotel, and not even at best. Even some motels had more flair. Rude staff. Don’t take anything you value with you. They workers are thieves.

Stay was ok. Rooms could have been cleaner. People in the room next to ours were fighting between 3-4:30 am. Then the fire alarm went off at 6 am and then again maybe 15/20 min later. No explanation as to why.

Great Suites and Awesome Staff.

Room size is awesome. Very comfy beds. Location is fantastic. Quite comfortable. However, I broke my foot on the stairs in our room because of the unevenness and oddly slippery carpeting. The shower in our room was crap and barely worked. The room service food is not great. And I would suggest microwaves in each room. Would still recommend though.

The hotel was great. The valet service was absolutely horrific.

This is a lovely hotel, with great staff! I stayed here for work and, other than the random fire alarm at 5am from a rule breaking smoker, my stay was great! It is a huge space, fantastic tub ;), and it is close to everything Greektown! I would stay again.

I was looking for a nice hotel for my Fiance' birthday and decided to make reservations here. It's my 5th time or so staying. The Atheneum makes you feel GRAND. From Valet to hospitality to room expectations… I give it a 5! We were greeted with smiles from check in and check out. You won't be disappointed! You guys made my Fiance' night. A blessing in disguise. Thank you!

Only here for one night but it was a good night. The room was huge and I was not expecting the hotel to be so beautiful and pleasant. Staff were so kind. I was on the 9th floor and the room a few ways down was partying too hard all night so I called the front desk. They sent security and the noise stopped instantly. I'd definitely go back!

Parking is not included but there is free parking near by. Front desk was pretty nice and so was the room. The air was on and said the room was set at 60 degrees but it still felt hot in there for most of the night but that was the only complaint I have about the room. There is a nice sitting area that is separated from the bedroom with a large bathroom in between, complete with a nice big tub.

We were visiting Detroit for the Baseball game and this hotel is located so close to the stadium and all of the things you could need to see. The rooms were cool and unique with a full living room, separate bedroom and large bathroom with a deep soaking tub. Captain Tony drives the shuttle (which is free to locations within 5 miles) and can tell you some great things about the city while he drives you around. The valet was very kind. After we checked out, he took our bags to the car and pulled our car around while we walked around the downtown.

Room was huge, bed was comfy, tub was huge. Tiny one cup coffee pot. Bath & Body works soap & shampoo and conditioner.

Great hotel. Very nice suites and friendly staff. Our room had a broken air conditioner but they moved us immediately with no trouble. Nice continental breakfast that was a bit unusual with a bartender assisting but neat still. Would stay again.

So my husband and I grew up in the city and we always wanted to visit this hotel since we were kids. So this weekend we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary so we booked our reservation. From the time we pulled in to the valet to the time we checked out our experience was thee best we have ever experienced. We felt like royalty. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was so warm and welcoming. The rooms were spacious and designed so elegantly. The fact that Greektown was right around the corner made the perfect date night we enjoyed live music good food sweet treats the Detroit river the people mover the renaissance center all within walking distance. We sent pics to our family now they all want to book there stay. It was the best I can’t wait to return.

The pros: The suites were great. The service was excellent. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent location in Greek Town next to the casino. Close to great entertainment and restaurants. Everything is walking distance. And if you want to get to other parts of Downtown Detroit, you can catch the People Mover around the corner. The cons: I was blindsided by the fact that there is no dedicated parking for guests. Nowhere is it mentioned on their website. Maybe someone else had it in a review. Unfortunately, parking wasn't something I would have thought about. I figured it was a given. The only options I was given was their own valet at $25 a day. Or, the casino garage at $20 a day with no reentry. This may not be a concern that you may have. But it would have been nice to know. Especially, when there are other hotel options.

The good: rooms are really unique and large. I loved the layout, so much space and very romantic. The perfect place for a night away. It's within walking distance of Greektown. The not-so-good: rowdy weekend crowd… I woke up several times to the sounds of yelling and partying. It was a Saturday night. Not sure what week nights are like.

Great hotel! I had never been until a relative came to town and stayed and I was pleasantly surprised. Rooms were really nice and clean and the hotel is in a great location. I would definitely come back!

No desk in the room! I don't have a lot to add that hasn't already been said, except that the suite rooms don't have a desk. I was in town for work for several days, and lack of a desk was extremely inconvenient. Other than that the rooms are very nice. Huge, comfortable, the step down to the bed is a nice touch, large bathroom, etc. And very conveniently located downtown.

My friends and I stayed here last March 2017. We were visiting from Toronto Canada for a bachelor party and had a great time. The booking process for the hotel was easy, the rooms were very spacious which was awesome, and everything was well kept. I cant remember what floor we were on but the hotel common areas are open concept with plants everywhere. That improves the ambiance a lot. The location of the hotel is also great for a group of tourists staying in Detroit for the first time. Very central location and easy to get to a lot of the main attractions. Price of the rooms was competitive. Please keep in mind my review is in context of the fact we were staying for a bachelor party. There was a lot of people coming and going in the hotel and I'm not sure if a family would feel the same way given that it could be noisy. However, it was great for our group. I would recommend this hotel to someone staying in Greek Town.

Hotel was beautiful. Staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The Premium Suite was beautifully deigned, spacious, and had great views, we however had a problem with our room cleanliness. The desk clerk was going to handle it, but for what ever reasons it was not taken care of that evening. I had low expectations when I approached the manager the next day and was pleasantly surprised with how quickly and efficiently he handle situation. He was very professional handling the complaint and went beyond my expectations to resolve issue. I will be staying there again. I will mention, this is a loud area especially on weekend nights. You will hear background noise beyond the hotels control.

We were there for a Mexican dinner on the top floor. Fantastic local, spacious and with breathtaking view of the city. The food was good, probably the best thing eaten in Detroit. Well kept and organized hotel.

The hotel was very nice, very nice staff. The rooms looked newly renovated. It was also fairly quiet besides the people screaming, cars honking outside for the Casino. My biggest problem was the floor was super noisy for some reason and I went to open a cabinet and the handle came off giving me the feeling that maybe the highest of quality materials were used when they remodeled. For a “luxury” hotel I would expect better. But other than that small detail, it was a great place to stay convenient to everything in the area. Would stay again.

An awesome hotel! I haven't stayed in many hotels, but this place did not disappoint. Everything was very smooth, valet parking and the shuttle were amazing, and we had no issues with the room. Only minor issue is the bathroom has glass block separating it from the bedroom, so any time you turn on the light in the bathroom it shines into the bedroom and woke up my roommates.

Pretty good hotel. Excellent location for downtown Detroit and I was able to walk many places and explore. The room was like a big apartment with a living room then hallway closets and bathroom and then steps down into the big bedroom. The bathroom did not have a Jacuzzi tub or whirlpool tub. I brought bleach to clean it and then epsom salt to take a great soaking bath. Was bigger bath than my claw foot tub at home.

Clean rooms… downtown location… minutes from the highway… very helpful and attentive staff. Minutes from the night life and restaurants. Did I mention the rooms are huge! I loved my stay here I will definitely be back.

Very beautiful place. Huge dance floor. Food was awesome but the dinner rolls were hard as a rock. Staff was very friendly and hardworking. Has an upper level for more wanted privacy with lots of seating and tall drink tables with candles on them to stand and chat. Dime lighting makes it a elegant place to be.

The overall stay was nice. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The shuttle was very convenient. The suite was very comfortable but the jacuzzi tub in the room was very loud which is why I gave 4 stars. I would stay again.

Went for a wedding, the venue was beautiful! Rooms were clean and large — only issue was big glass wall of the bathroom which let light out so if someone used the washroom it would wake someone up if they were sleeping. Very clean and great location.

I have stayed here multiple times for many Metro Detroit events. Good pricing and a lot of room in each room. You can't beat the location either. Nice amenities and the staff is very accommodating.

The main thing that I didn't like about it was the glass block windows. You can hear conversations that people are having out in the hallway. Then there's the ones separating the beds and bathroom. They let a lot of light through, so if you get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night you might wake somebody up. Other than that, I loved the rooms! The hotel is right across the street from the Greektown parking ramp (reasonably priced), and has a heated walkway to the Atheneum. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from Ford Field and Comerica Park. Overall a good location and great place to stay.

Had a 500 sq ft suite which was great. Open with plenty of seating for the guests we had over multiple times. Stayed downtown for a friend's birthday out on the town, and the location was great. The bedroom was a few steps down from the main room and bathroom, so keep that in mind if you would prefer not to have any steps in your room — it may be an option, it wasn't a problem for us though. Bathroom was large enough for three women getting ready for the night. Restaurant downstairs was a great stop too!

Loved the stay, great atmosphere & wonderful staff. We had a King suite & it was grand, very comfortable. Parling is a challenge but they offer valet — we used the parking structure located directly across from it.

My favorite hotel. From the receptionist to the concierge, all staff is friendly and so willing to help. I love the big rooms and the views they offer. The Atheneum is within walking distance to great dining and entertainment. I will always come back!

We stayed at the Atheneum while we were in town to see a concert. I can’t say enough anout the great service and amazing people! From the management team to the housekeeping department, to the bartender, Eva, to Tony… who not only took us to the concert but also picked us up… thank you—thank you—thank you! The rooms are so beautiful… with every convenience! Great location also. I will definitely go back!

The rooms were nice. The price for the night was reasonable, being that it was Sweetest Day weekend. The auxiliary rooms were great. Attended a wedding. Great staff and helpful service. Would recommend.

This place is great and was cheaper than where we were staying just blocks away. Room was huge! 2 level 2 TV 2 room setup, huge bathroom with bath and body works toiletries and soft towels. Staff was great. Tesla charger out front. The place is fancy enough that I don't think there is free breakfast or anything but we went to santorini for dinner and it was perfect, not too expensive or fancy, and only a block or two away, just like the people mover elevated shuttle.

The hotel is beautiful. Very nice, spacious rooms. The bathtub sizes are generous. It's a bonus that all the soaps and lotions in the room are Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy. The service from the bellhop and the valet were excellent the first two days of our stay. The only issue during the stay was that the card keys didn't work — we had to slide them about 20 times to get it to open each time. The only reason this review isn't 5 stars is on the last night of our stay when we checked out it took about 40 minutes to get our car from valet. It was good we were leaving for the airport early.

We had a great stay at the Atheneum! The staff was attentive and friendly and the hotel is beautiful. We were initially worried about how much sound from the hall carried into the room, but with the unique sunken bedroom we found it wasn't an issue while sleeping. Highly recommended!

This funky older hotel isn't perfect. Yes, it could use some repairs… like the electronic door keys take a lot of tries. Yes, there were some paint issues and stains that needed attention. The rooms are large and comfortable. The location is within walking distance to the river, restaurants, and entertainment. Before you skip this place, remember this… the staff are amazing! They know it isn't perfect and they will go out of their way to make it right. From the managers to the maintenance workers, and everyone in between, there wasn't a single person there that wasn't awesome, helpful, friendly, and real.

This place used to be one of the best hotels around. But recently it has gone downhill you are lucky if you get one of the newly renovated rooms otherwise you can expect to have stains on the carpet and scuffs on the wall. The rooms are a nice size. There is no choice but to valet park your car which is $25 a day remember to budget that into your stay. The last time I was here all of the bellhop as well as the valet drivers ask for money in tips for everything. I don't know if it was just because they needed money at the time or are they always this needy.

We went to a wedding reception. Beautiful venue. Food and beverage were excellent. Loved the cocktail hour up on the mezzanine. Service was excellent. One of my favorite weddings ever.

Overall a really great place. Very helpful employees, and the room was really nice. There were a few dirty areas around the room though, with stuff left over like the vacuuming had been done in a hurry. Breakfast is really expensive, but the restaurants around the nearby area are all great, and much more affordable! The streets down towards Greektown were full of extremely loud people and vehicles until very late at night, and on the third floor the windows could absolutely not keep the noise out — it made it difficult to sleep, even though it was a Sunday night! It's a fun area though, and the Detroit People Mover train runs right by there, so it's easy to get around downtown from here.

Great place to stay if your going to a ballgame. Shuttle service to and from Comerica Park was fast and easy. Also very close to many pubs and restaurants. Room was spacious and clean. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

I haven't even stayed here and I can say I probably never will. I called wanting to make a reservation cause I was supposed to get a discount. However, the date (Tuesday Sept 12th) I wont be able to get the discount because of the Kid Rock Concert. So it would be $199 for the night. Ok, well I was just going to pass and decide to just not get a room. This is where the 1 star comes in. The lady told me: "that is the rate if I book now. The more rooms we book the higher the rate goes". So not only am I not allowed to use my discount but if I decided to change my mind a week or two from now the rate could possible be higher? Yeah No thanks! I have never, NEVER, had a rate go up based on how many rooms they have left. And I have gone many places and called early, then didn't book till closer and getting the last room they have and still not asked to pay more then the first person to book for that day.

Staff was very friendly. The room was nice but a little dated and could have been a little cleaner. Location is perfect if wanting to go to Greektown Casino or to watch a game. Room was very large as was our bathroom. But the shower is slightly difficult to get in and out of.

I had the pleasure of hosting a 3-day meeting for a 170 guests at the Atheneum Hotel Ballroom. The entire experience was perfect. We received such great care from every staff member: from valet, to the front desk, and the incredible banqueting staff. The food was absolutely delicious and room was beautiful, allowing great views of the city. Our guests came from 25 states and all had a wonderful experience. I would love to host a meeting here again and simply can't praise it enough!

Only high praises. The rooms were spacious and unique. I can see how they may not be everyone's style though. Most importantly, the staff was outstanding. Great encounter with every employee, and I talked to more than a handful. Had a very enjoyable time.

The stay at atheneum hotel was excellent. We enjoyed the shuttle service that would take you and pick you up from anywhere within a 5 mile radius, for free. The room was very nice and the staff was as well. We hope to enjoy another stay shortly!

Upon check-in we noticed a crack in the drywall above the bed in our room, drawing with crayon on the headboard which obviously hadn't been cleaned, a dripping faucet in the tub, and on top of that it was really stuffy in the room. I hate complaining about anything but for $200 a night this place needs to get their act together. Upon arriving at valet they welcomed me by telling me that after 20 minutes of my car being there it would run me $20. Mind you this was 15 seconds after I pulled in and started helping unload our car. I decided to not give them my business and park elsewhere. (parking garage nearby) My girlfriend wanted to complain about the state of the room so I made a trip to the front desk and explained the condition of the room to the employee at the front desk. She was very understanding and polite. That is why it's a 3 star review. They moved us to another room on the same floor which was not much better. Still a crack in the ceiling and not the kind of clean I expect for a 4 star hotel. The manager called the room while I was away getting some ice and explained that she would like to upgrade us free of charge because when I went back to get the keys for the second room the associate asked if the room was any better and I explained the latter. So, after getting ice I make my way BACK to the desk and wait in line patiently to have the manager come out and tell me they will comp my valet parking but have no rooms available.

We attended a work ball in the grand ballroom on the 8th floor. The valets were courteous and quick, the location had a great view. The food and drinks were tasty and the wait staff was friendly. My favorite part was the mashed potato bar. The beer selection could have been better, but I'm not sure if that was the venue or the package the hosting company chose.

This hotel was easy to get too the rooms were clean the beds were comfortable the food was fantastic absolutely no complaints the staff was fantastic. Love the location.

A nice, old fashioned "city-hotel". The occasional ding or chip in the wall adds some real character to the room. It was very spacious and comfortable. I only had 2 complaints; fingerprints on the bathroom wall that have been there since at least the previous guest, and the television. The TV was modern, about 32-36 inches, and at least 720p. But the roughly 60 channels were all standard definition, with the contrast ratio making nearly every channel unwatchable. Regardless, I would recommend this hotel, and give it another try myself.

As tourists from Texas, we nearly froze to death at the Detroit International Auto Show but luckily for us we stayed at the Atheneum and had a warm reception when we got there and the entire 4 days/nights we were there. Our room was sparkling clean, very quiet and comfortable. If I ever make it back, I'll stay here again.

I had a nice stay at the Antheneum. The room was very big, and had a comfortable bed. Wifi and a fridge were also included in the room price, which is always nice. My only complaints are that the room was very dimly lit, and getting my car out of valet parking took almost an hour.

The hotel is dated and honestly I think there are issues with the building's structural integrity. Walking around my room on the 6th floor, there were a lot of creaking noises that sounded very deep in the building. Towels need to be replaced. In terms of friendliness of staff and location though, it's great. Lighting in the bedroom could also be improved, there were only two low watt bulbs in there which made it hard for me to see stuff in my luggage.

The hotel had no water when we checked in. Had to use toliet without ability to flush, when water was on we had to take cold showers. Mind you this went on for 3 days where we couldn't flush or shower. All management would do is comp 2 free drinks. And when we asked for free bottles of water to brush teeth they acted like we were requesting gold. And they continued to accept guests without telling them about water. While rooms were nice, it was a terrible stay and management didn't handle issue with any profession.

My friend booked a room 11 months in advance — specifically requesting a late check-in and two separate beds for four adults. Upon our arrival, we were told it was a busy weekend and that there were no rooms available with 2 beds. So what's the point of the reservation? We were placed in a room with one bed. No cots or fold-out couch option available. Four adults (in our 30s and 40s — not kids) in one bed. Nothing to make it right. And on a weekend when there were no other options open and available nearby. Okay. Shit happens. We went to sleep early so that we could could talk to the general manager right at 7 AM the next morning (when we were told by the powerless desk staff to approach him) — paperwork proof of four person / two bed reservation request in hand. We were polite and accommodating and willing to work with what they had. Again, we've got experience in the service industry and understand that shit happens. But their general manager, Leo, was an absolute jerk right from the start and wouldn't even entertain the idea of getting our room number or names to transfer us to a two bed room when any such rooms opened. Apparently, if the other desk and shuttle staff are to believed, his attitude is a frequent issue. Though we did hear some other screwed up rooms were eventually transferred. The Atheneum also failed to appropriately compensate us for the inconvenience of FOUR nights in which four adults shared one bed.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on Saturday March 21, for one night. We were there from Canada for an event at Ford Field, which is a short 5 minute walk straight down brush ave. We stayed in a deluxe suite, which was a huge room with a unique layout. It had a separate living area with a tv, and the bedroom (king bed) also had a tv. This room could easily hold more than two. The hotel was very nice, clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The hotel only offers valet parking, and we did not have any issues with this. The valet parks the vehicle across the street in the casino above ground lot. The casino is located right around the corner as well, and there are many different small bars and restaurants there too — all within a few minutes walk. We really enjoyed our stay here, and would stay again in the future.

Stayed there, last week. Nice to stay. In Detroit, felt safe downtown Hotel was just alright. Room service was really bad, taking almost 2 hours. Food arrived, like it was he was heated by heat lamp.

Stayed here one time. Very spacious with a unique set up. Can't wait to stay here again. They had a big bathtub and about the same price as the competition across the street but the difference is the Atheneum has much more space and the staff are helpful and courteous unlike the other place where they are rude and incompetent.

I had a great experience here. I don't have much experience staying in hotels, but this was by far the best I have stayed at. The lobby is unique and beautifully done. The rooms (or at least the one I had) was great. Perhaps most importantly, the people that worked there were great. It was actually just over a year ago that we went, and we are thinking of visiting Detroit again. If we do, this is the hotel we will be staying at.

Loved it. Everyone we encountered was fantastic, and the rooms are nice, clean, and extremely large for the price. They add parking to the bill and valet your car, nice to not have to mess with it. Great restaurants near by, and an easy walk to both of the stadiums. Only one warning, there is no mini fridge for use, just a stocked "refreshment center". The items are on sensors so when I took some out to put my own items in I was charged at check out for them. They did however remove the charges with no complaints. Probably the best value for the money in a hotel room I've ever encountered. We stayed right by the elevator and didn't notice it being unusually loud as some have complained about. And I can't say enough about the staff. 5 Stars.

This is a classy hotel/restaurant, in a left for dead city. Once the dark of night settled in, I ran to the hotel and made it my "safe place".

From the moment my girlfriend and I stepped out of my car the experience was wonderful. The valet drivers were all very helpful and friendly as were the clerks at the front desk. The room was spacious and clean and within walking distance of Comerica Park (which was great because we were going to the Tigers game). This also means it is within walking distance to Ford Field. We we will definitely be back when we go down for a Lions game later in the year. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I stayed here for 3 weeks in January, 2014 and the room was a great size—split between a decent sized living room space and bedroom space that was down a short flight of stairs. The staff was friendly and I would especially like to give a quick shout out to Curtis at the Bell Desk who shuttled me to work on multiple days. He was extremely friendly, had a lot of stories about the area and was generally extremely helpful. My stay was generally pretty good but he was great.
