A very nice unobstructed view of Rolling Hills and lots of trees nice little community.

Let me start out with the GOOD… beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, staff is helpful and courteous. NOW the bad, FIRST room hot water got only LUKEWARM! Night manager moved us to a new room after checking the water in the new room himself, BUT secind room the temperature could NOT be controlled by thermostat! walked in and room was 78⁰! thermostat was on 66⁰! had to turn air conditioning on to cool it off! once back down to 66⁰ turned it to heat and by morning it was BACK UP TO 78⁰! Breakfast was gross! scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, bacon was greasy and rubbery, egg white omlet was UNDERCOOKED! only thing good was the coffee! if you need a place to sleep for the night and dont care how hot the room gets then its fine, otherwise would NOT recommend!

Our front desk Erica was awesome! She went out of her way to make my boys chocolate chip cookies since the cookies they had out had peanuts. My boys have an allergic reaction peanuts.

So far so good they play great music! Rooms are very nice! Pool and hot tub!

It had a bad smell, we had to keep using air freshener in the room. That's a same too it was actually a good pit stop for us.

The girls at the front desk (Jessica and Daisy) were very helpful when I asked about pizza delivery. Check in was easy and I even signed up to be a member. Jessica even escorted me to the elevator.
The room was very comfortable and clean. We wish we weren’t leaving so early in the morning or we would stay for breakfast.

Great hotel. Very clean rooms. Can be noisy in the rooms at certain times of the day. Pool and hot tub are nice. Breakfast bar has a great variety. Muffins, bagels, delicious cinnamon rolls, sausage, omelettes, sausage and gravy, biscuits, cereal, fruit, pancakes, yogurt and milk, juices and coffee. They have milk and cookies at night in the lobby. Also in the Lobby, is a computer with a printer. Came in handy when I had to print off my boarding passes. Will definitely stay here again.

I’ve never actually been in this Holiday Inn, but I work at Gallatin Street Grille and I hear from guests that it is a nice place to stay. Especially with the remodel. I also want to thank the staff for recommending guests to eat at the Grille. We appreciate it!

Great Breakfast. The rooms are wonderful. Great staff. Came back to room. No coffee refill. Garbage was not empty from the day before. Housekeeping made it a 3 star.

Clean. Friendly staff. The indoor pool was fun and not crowded when we were there. Comfortable beds. The only downside I found was the noise travelling from the people stomping above me and the sound travelling in from the hallway.

Nice new hotel just off interstate. Friendly staff and clean rooms and lobby. Reasonably priced. We booked online and an issue came up with our room the staff member called me right away. Found us another room and gave us a tremendous discount.

Nice room but unfortunately the veranda was built directly in front of our suites window, leaving us with a 15 foot tall window and just a view of the side of the veranda. I would say if not for the large obstruction I would rate it higher. But when you pay as much as we did I would like to see outside.

The hotel was new and very nice. Staff was very nice and we had a very quiet room on the 3rd floor. Free breakfast was well stocked and pretty good. Pool was nice temperature and the hot tub was fantastic!

Newly remodeled hotel. Everything was first class, from the check in to the breakfast. I'd stay again without any question if I were in the area.

Wonderful & institutional. Clean room. Nice bed. Very loud ice machine. Poor shower water pressure. Good room sound insulation. Brilliantly lit hallways… like oddly bright hallways. Room has hidden light switches for each piece of furniture. Good amount of USB ports.

The interior was very nice and I enjoyed the quality of the hair supplies. The front desk was also very accommodating in getting me items I forgot. One confusing thing was the television channels were not correct and in the right order. I also found the breakfast selections to be lacking and was disappointed about this. Overall nice.

Clean, updated rooms. The second floor is still being remodeled, that's how recent the upgrades. The breakfast was good, hot, and offered a good selection, including some healthier options. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the hotel is conveniently located just off I-70 with access to Walmart, fast food, and some somewhat nicer full-service restaurants. The pool area was clean and was a big hit with the kids who stayed with us. We would definitely stay again — — a great, comfortable stay at an economical price.

For the price of the room, I expected more. The room was clean and the beds good but it was sort of cramped in space. The breakfast was pretty good but nothing special. The motel was under renovation so in addition to signs of construction, the hot tub was drained and the pool was looking green. Part of the reason we selected this hotel and paid its premium room rate was for the pool so I feel that guests like myself are being taken advantage of. The next time I stay in Vandalia I will select a different hotel.

It was ok. Not amazing but it’s a small town so there’s not a ton of options. It was clean, the staff was helpful and the pizza place next door is pretty good. Skip the free breakfast.

Traveling home for the holidays and this was our choice for a night stay. Remodeling was being undertaken but the room was very clean and tidy. The staff was helpful and courteous. We will probably stay here again especially after the remodeling has been completed. All in all a good experience.

Great staff. Great breakfast. Room and hall decor were very dated. They were remodeling so maybe they were updating.

I would be lying if I said it was my best stay. There was a number of smaller things that collectively resulted in a subpar experience. Checked in, then immediately rechecked to another room as my work associate had a more senior rewards status (they checked in just after me). Upon checking in, I was handed a note saying their renovations were still going on; bare dry wall, exposed electrical boxes, missing ceiling tiles, and very dirty hall carpet. Got the the room and it was a little dirty, specifically the bathroom, but there was some visible dirt on the carpet. All that was okay, but the beds were honestly quite terrible. Did not sleep well. The next morning was met with, very, poor breakfast food. At least the hot food. Ended up just eating some cereal. Sadly, I am not looking to return. Booked another hotel the following night, even though the drive was further away.

It was a very nice and clean place. Was very impressed. They even had gluten free bagels for people with gluten.

Staff were extremely pleasant. Room was so clean I was impressed. Breakfast items were varied and plentiful.

The room was clean and nice. I didn't get a chance to check out the pool, and I skipped breakfast entirely. The staff was great. They gave us an early check-in so we could get ready for a wedding.

If half star was allowed would give a quarter start, sheets dirty, shower dirty, not worth the price, comfort inn 20 miles ahead if going south, or stop there 1st if coming north, staff lied about room being clean, offered another room used our own sheets pitifully disappointed.

I have Celiac Disease and so do my 3 boys and was very happy they had gluten free bagels! The walls were thin in the rooms which was a downside, I could hear full conversations. Rooms were clean but small.

In this small area along the highway, not too many choices, it was a great place to stay. It was a very nice and clean hotel. The room was cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was great. If you are traveling along this area on I-70 in Illinois, it is a very good choice. I was so tired and looking for a place to stay, it was dark outside, driving was difficult so I was looking for a place, kept looking for a while, decided to stay in Vandalia. It worked out well. I recommend this Holiday Inn to everyone.

It was a very nice place to stay! They have in door pool an hot tub! Rooms are way to nice. An there Breakfast Bar, has really good food!

Great staff. Clean pool and hot tub. Breakfast great and the pancake machine is awesome… Even though the pancakes are not good. Clean rooms and they handled my children wonderfully. Even after breakfast I needed one of their condiments from the breakfast bar and the front desk was very polite and got me what I needed. Will definitely stay here Everytime we are in town.

Attended a professional function here and had a positive experience overall. The staff was attentive, providing mini muffins and water in the meeting room. The room itself was well decorated, with a professional atmosphere. 10/10 would attend again.

Stayed here with my boyfriend for 3 nights while we were in town for a friends wedding. Actually enjoyed the hotel but there were many problems. Our shower didn't seem like it had been cleaned thoroughly. I found really dark hairs everywhere and neither of us have dark hair. Also, their soundproofing is very minimal. You could hear everyone closing the doors and walking around in the hallway. Due to the minimal soundproofing, we got a complaint we were being too loud when we were just having a conversation in our room. And the manager didn't stop at just letting us know we needed to quiet down, she confronted us 3 different times and even threatened to kick us out because we were talking in our room. I felt like this was very unprofessional and rude and will never stay here again just because of the way she treated us.

Nice clean hotel with wonderfully comfy rooms and a great staff. The free breakfast is normally amazing, but during our stay the hotel was completely booked and when we got to breakfast it was picked cleaned. They said more would be out in a few minutes, but after waiting another 10 minutes without anything coming out, we decided to just pack up and leave.

The room was clean and very comfortable and the extra amentities available were quite nice (spa, pool and workout area). The breakfast provided was delicious and the hotel was centrally located within walking distance of food and shopping.

They had dog treats we could pick from since our dog was staying, we got a little welcome package for the reward program. There were yummy cookies at the counter. Some guys came in really late, the pool was about to "officially" close for the night but they told them as long as they were quiet they could go swim. Nice, hospitable place! I love HIE's!

There were plenty of restaurants and a Wal-Mart surrounding the hotel, making it a great overnight stop for a long road trip. The hotel looked great inside and outside, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and they had a great free breakfast in the morning with a lot of options. It was a great stay, even if it was just overnight.

When I got in the room, I was about to go to bed when I noticed a blood stain on my sheets. It was very gross and nasty.

We have stayed at this Hotel several times traveling between Texas and the midwest. Every visit was a pleasant one, with very friendly staff. During one of the visits I arrived at 2 a. M. Due do an ice storm in St. Louis. I was beat. I checked in then helped my young kids up to the room. The next morning when we were leaving I could not find my camera. I have a prof. Quality Canon 5D and felt sick to my stomach. The front desk had it. The night before I had set it on a chair next to the desk during check-in. I know that it is to be expected that it should be returned to me, but that has not always been our experience with hotels and forgotten items.

Stayed here once. Went to the walmart directly behind and while at walmart the power went out. Went back to the room and power was out as well. Spent few hours in the dark which was a inconvenience. Figured a comp should be in order for wasting my night sitting in the dark but management was rude. Always stay at holiday inn express and had few prob in past like no hot water in morning in new mexico and they offered at discounted rate for the inconvenience. Took up the issue of the power outage with priority club and they gave me hefty amount of points to make up for it. I understand it was beyond their control but I think they could have planned a little better and installed back up generators for situations like this being it is a decent quality chain. Will give the vandalia location another try when we head east next month since it is a good half — way point.
