HI - Baltimore Hostel Hostel

I stayed at the Hi Baltimore hostel. Staff were friendly and the hostel had a good vibe. Bathrooms were clean, breakfast provided every morning, kitchen well equiped and clean. The hostel is also not to far to the inner harbour and other sites/ activities (Aquarium, Ripleys beleive it or not, view from top of the trade centre, federal hill, Washington monument and many other museums)

Terrible lodging experiences usually end at check out, but mine lasted months after. I left my laptop in a locker, not realizing I had done so until hitting the next city (my fault. ) I call and see if I should drive back or if they can ship it. I offer $70 to ship and the staff agrees. However, this was in early June. 3 months later, no laptop. Every time I call I get no answer, a lie about when it was shipped, or someone who tells me that there is no tracking number but it's on its way. The most likely scenario is that whoever was tasked w shipping it simply didn't and kept it.

Great building, smack dab in the middle of everything for Baltimore. Great staff and entertainment. Setting the standard for US hostels.

Friendly staff, clean spaces, and comfortable beds make this a great housing value. The Friday evening happy hour was a fun way to meet other interesting guests over a free craft beer. The living areas are large and well furnished. The 24 hour a day staffing model ensures that nothing too exciting takes place.

The location is cool. Very old but pretty clean and well maintained by the staff. The staff is cool, polite and helpful. That being said, I will never stay in another hostel. The first two nights of our stay we had a guy whose snoring sounded like a shop vac sucking up rocks. Very little sleep those two nights. The final night of our stay we had a crazy dude in our room. He KEPT talking about how expensive my friend's shoes were (like he planned to steal them) and after listening to him having a ten minute phone conversation we realized there was no phone and he was talking to himself. All of us (my wife, my friend, a random guy that was also staying in the room with us and myself) left immediately and got a hotel room because none of us were sleeping with that guy in our room. We paid for 6 nights, stayed 4. Also the neighborhood is kind of sketchy. Heed my warning. Bite the bullet. Pay for a hotel room.

This was a very spacious hostel with a fully equipped kitchen and breakfast provided every morning. The common area is comfortable has multiple couches and a TV. The showers and bathrooms were clean, towels also provided, and beds come with two pillows, a thin sheet, and a blanket! However, the building is very old and has a bit of a musty smell. Most of the staff members were friendly, the check in desk is 24 hrs so thats really helpful. Would stay here again the next time I'm in baltimore!

The building is stunning, historic and obviously renovated with lots of love! The amazing staff run activities daily, and I had loads of opportunities to make new friends while I was there with their free dinners and Happy Hour. The staff are all passionate about what they do and incredibly helpful, full to the brim with enthusiasm about Baltimore and loads of great ideas for stuff to do! I wish I could have stayed longer! 10/10 would stay again!

I really like the place. I travel a great bit but this my first time staying at any hostel. A friend recommend this place. Staff is important. The hospitality industry is ALL about the guest. Don't hire people in the guest services industry who are nosey, don't like people and who aren't friendly! I was off put by a staff member snooping at my computer work, my back was to her, I felt a presence I turned around. She acted like she was polishing the table but left the pledge and rag and walked away. As such she has a need to see something about me and what I was doing instead of working. I felt like my privacy was invaded. Some people don't have enough going on in their lives so they need to know about other people's lives, I guess. The place is nice and clean. The young lady at night is well suited for her position very professional and friendly (Nioami? sp). The building, location, and price are what this place great. The manager has a staff that rotates so you get a good service and bad. Becky with the straight hair over charged me for parking. Betty "Clean up women" Wright was a sour puss. The Guest made my stay great. I met some new friends.

Located downtown in a 200+ year old building (expertly repurposed). Rooms were clean, and service was amazing!

That was my first experience living in a Hostel, and I must say, that I was pleasantly surprised! It reminded me of my college days, living amongst diverse people from around the USA and the World! People who are open to both hear and share varied points of view. Yeah, this was a good thing, and I plan on doing it again. Oh, by the way… I'm a 58 year old, Black Man, in case you were wondering!

Very nice, attentive, and accommodating staff. The facilities are kept clean. The shower had almost no water pressure and the heat was inconsistent. Shower soap and shampoo aren't supplied, but they do have a towel for you. Free breakfast and coffee is a big benefit, and plus, you have access to a community kitchen to cook in and refrigerators with a little bit of space. Over all, I'm super impressed. Just be prepared to sleep in the same bedroom as other people.

Just an all around great place to stay! Unlike some Hostels I’ve visited, this one is by far the cleanness one I’ve been to. Also, everyone was so nice! I had a personal problem, and to my surprise, the staff was understanding and went above and beyond what was required of them to make sure that I was okay. I’m so happy I got the opportunity to live there! I really needed a place to stay because I was visiting town for a job interview. Long story short, I got the job. Without Hi — Baltimore, I don’t think I would’ve been able to even visit Baltimore. Thanks! Charlie.

I usually stay at this place when I need an inexpensive quality place to rest my head. They are knowledgeable and welcoming. The friendly staff will make you feel like you just want to stay longer or return again. Clean safe quiet.

In and out of the card, access security to do very well, the counter 24 hours someone, spacious and bright space, well-equipped, clean and clean.

The public space is beautiful, clean and very inviting. It was a very good spot for our small group meeting.

I stayed at the HI Baltimore Hostel for three nights when I attended the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's annual national conference in January 2016, held at the Baltimore Convention Center that year. It was a pretty cool place to stay. The people were nice and friendly, it was crowded with travelers but cozy. It was an excellent location, immediately across the street from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and only about a 12-minute walk down the hill to the Baltimore Convention Center…

It was good, ppl are friendly and kitchen is very accessible. Overall very clean.

It was a really neat Place very tidy and had a really great atmosphere perfect for College events.

The staff was SUPER friendly, especially Andrew and Navi! Navi literally gave me the shoes off her feet when she realized I was going to try and walk a mile in heels! She seriously saved my life (and my feet)! The location is literal perfection and the hostel itself has an old and cozy feel. The kindness of the staff truly make it feel like a home away from home. The female room was a little too warm for my tastes, but I get warm easily, so it's probably fine for most people. The building was older than I expected, but that only adds to the historic Baltimore feel. I have no regrets from my stay. No bugs or real problems. Breakfast was smaller than I expected too, but then again, I paid a fraction of the cost I would have paid in a normal hotel with zero breakfast, so I would definitely stay here again.

This is a great inexpensive Hostel super close to the Inner Harbor. The staff was so friendly and it was very clean and well kept. Will definitely stay here next time I'm in Baltimore.

The room was a little bit hot (I like my room pretty cold when I sleep so it's probably fine for most people) and the building was older than I expected, but overall good stay. Stayed for two weeks while moving to Baltimore! Great location, staff and fun activities with all the people visiting. The free breakfasts are a place to meet people and there's usually a dinner, tour, other cultural and athletic things on the calendar. Good common spaces too in a beautiful old building! Rooms are basic but clean and there are lockers to keep valuables. If you are traveling alone, why should you pay for a hotel and spend your trip lonely? Come to hi Baltimore!

A quirky building with a great vibe around the hostel inside it. The staff are really helpful, acting almost as local tour guides. For the size of the hostel it also offers quite a few events. The rooms aren't spellbinding but they're what you should expect from a hostel.

Of all the many HI hostels I have stayed in, the Baltimore hostel was the least impressive. The beds are tiny and if the person on top moves even an inch, the person's on the bottom gets shaken. The halls are awkward and cramped and the neighborgood is a bit sketchy. The thing that shocked me the most was the showers. There were two showers. One shower was dark since there was no light in there, and one shower had a huge window with no blinds! Sooo, about 10 minutes worth of Baltimore traffic has seen me naked. Thanks for that, HI hostel…

This has been the best experience I have had sleeping outside of my home. I plan to come back next year and any time I travel here. Everything worked, the staff helped with ANY issues I had, and helped me with things that other hotels would never do. I was even taught by the Andrew on how make pancakes. I suggest this place to anyone who is coming to Baltimore (just please leave me a bed! )

Underrated, under-advertised, relatively unknown. It's a nice place with no obvious name recognition.

Beautiful facilities and standard sleeping arrangements for a hostel. The price was definitely fair-just bring headphones for sleeping in a room with up to 11 other people.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Lots of activities going on. Breakfast free (pancakes and bread and various jams/butter/syrup) provided. Clean, well-equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds with clean linen and towels. Clean and enough toilets and bathrooms.

The hostel was great for a quick overnight stay on my way home. The facilities seemed to be clean and signs were posted at various points giving any special instructions or information. My one complaint would have to be the beds. I was assigned a top bunk, which is generally not a problem despite not liking heights or climbing ladders that do not have an incline. Unfortunately, these were the type of bunk beds where the railing went across the top of the ladder requiring you to climb over the rails to reach the bed. Just keep that in mind and consider requesting a bottom bunk well ahead of time if you have difficulty with bunks like those.

Hands off, nice staff but very old and needs basic renovation, I thought all the HI Hostels are good.

Fantastic place in a city without the landmark appeal. Staff and guests were extremely friendly and we very much enjoyed our stay in what would have been a mere stopover. One of the best places we stayed on the East coast!

Very clean, very attentive, you receive the time that is, showers are shared, and private bathrooms. Recommended in addition, you can walk to the port.

It's a hostel. Kitchen was helpful, a hodgepodge of left behind cookware. The pancake breakfast is DIY, but made available. The back patio is very nice and I like the free events, but you get what you pay for with a free tour.

Really good hostel at a decent price. The place is fantastic and close to the Owner Harbor. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

I love this place, it's has a nice homey atmosphere and is super clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Also the location is absolutely unbeatable. I'll stay here again and again without questions.

Awesome building. Only $30 a night. Bathrooms were super clean. Why anyone would stay in a hotel instead of a place like this is beyond me.

I stayed at HI for about 5 days and never felt this good in a hostel. I was greatly surprised to see such great service for this price. The staff was nice and helpful. The kitchen and living spaces are cosy and comfortable. The rooms are quite spacious and clean with bathrooms inside the rooms which is pretty cool. It can be noisy from the street at night, but nothing that would keep me from sleeping. I was cold at night and they nicely provided extra blankets. You will be able to do your laundry (bring your own change) in the basement. I definitely recommend this hostel.

I stayed there for two nights in a 8 dorm room. It was very cosy. Really friendly staff, clean rooms, awesome home decoration. The kitchen is well equipped and clean as well. Keep it up! :)

From start to finish the staff was great. The hostel is in great shape and free pasta dinners and blueberry pancakes beat it all.

Tiny bathroom and shower.

I had a great experience. The Staff -EXCELLENT! and extremely accommodating. The Hostel -they provided activities for visitors! FUN, social, easy! -the rooms were clean and decent -the showers were clean and I had no issue using it whenever needed. -there are lockers for your personal items (the lockers are pretty large) -any large suitcases can be stored in their storage room (you can do laundry there as well) The Area -easy to get to -you can run to the Harbor in 5 min. -very convenient -i was able to get a taxi down the block in less than 2 min.

Perfect location. Beautiful old house right across from the oldest cathedral in America. Comfortable and spacey common areas with games, a piano, cable TV, outdoor patio complementary meals etc. The city is a hidden gem and the really nice staff know it so well they help you explore all the best day and night time activities with other travellers.

Stayed here for a night in March 14 and it is a decent place. 8 dorm room was clean, okay spacewise and the common room is great with sofas. Bath is tiny tho and the shower only works on half power. Location is great as you can walk to all the sights in Charm city. Breakfast is free and alright. If you want cheap accommodation this is the place to go. Parking in the back is okay at $8 a day.

The beds were uncomfortable, the bathroom was a bit dirty and fellow guests were noisy. But hey, it's a hostel, meaning it's cheap and friendly and you can't expect too much. I did expect the staff to know the answers to some basic questions, but everyone we spoke to seemed to be on their first day in the job. Also, the wireless didn't work, which was a bit of a pain. However, the kitchen is great, the lounge is a cool, airy and comfortable place to read and rest outside the room. And the weekly film night in the basement was good fun. The location is OK — halfway between the Amtrak station and the harbor. I would recommend this place for hostel regulars, not for people who expect a B&B style experience. Sadly, Baltimore doesn't offer many of those, so the hostel may be your only option unless you want to stay in a faceless chain hotel. PS: The eco-reminders were a little bit hypocritical in view of the limited effort the hostel itself seemed to make to be 'green'.
