We liked this hotel and stayed in it several times over the last few years. Nevertheless, our last six-day stay (originally, planned as ten days) was one of the worst hotel stays we have experienced. Much has changed recently, it seems. 1. We had a two-room suite. Half of the time (three days), one of the rooms was dark, because something happened to wiring, as a consequence of a short circuit somewhere. One lamp out of three was functional. We informed the hotel twice. Both times, we were promised a repair “tomorrow, ” but nothing was done until our departure. As a result, while we paid for the suite, we (three adults) used one room, mostly occupied by a bed, in the evenings. We understand that some electrical problems may be difficult to repair while the room is occupied. However, an honest action on the part of the hotel would have been either to offer us a different room, or at least not charge us the full price of the suite – the hotel attempted neither. We encountered such dishonesty for the first time. 2. Half of the time (three days), the toilet seat was broken — a sizeable crack on one of its sides that would “bite” you if you sat on it. 3. We had several teaspoons (one of us had to take medicine, followed by a yogurt). On two occasions, after cleaning, our teaspoons disappeared from the room, and the hotel could not find them. Since these spoons were a part of a set, we now have an incomplete set (the replacement cost is $199.99 + tax + shipping). We were told that cleaning crew pick up silverware from the rooms, however, our spoons were not identical to hotel silverware, and we should not be responsible for hotel personnel inattention. No one warned us that we should hide our spoons, or they would be taken away. Furthermore, the hotel does not offer room service. Therefore, the policy of removing silverware from rooms is rather dubious. 4. We had not previously encountered noisy parties in this hotel. As the hotel personnel explained, it is now typical on weekends. On Friday and Saturdays, when we arrived, there were two wedding celebrations scheduled. The noise went on until late. If you are not a guest at the celebration, noise is likely not what you want or expect at a quiet country inn. It would have been decent of the hotel staff to forewarn us about this when we were making our reservation. As a result, we shortened our stay from ten days to six, and we doubt that we will stay in this hotel again. Anything can happen, but we would expect that a self-respecting hotel would recompense its clients for losses that were due to poor functioning of the hotel or for significant inconvenience, such as disappearing spoons, dark room, broken toilet seat…
