Nice standard type room. Very clean. Beds were comfortable and the staff was friendly. Could hear our neighbors talking in the next room at 6am but otherwise it was a quiet place. Would stay there again.

We booked a room for two nights, Friday and Saturday. While en route we received a call to inform us that they were closing at 8pm, despite their own website and the site we booked through stating 10pm. We were told that the 10pm office closing time was for the summer season. This is stated no where, not on the Wapiti Lodge website, not on their FB page, and not on the site we booked through. We were told we could still get into our room, and the key would be under the mat at room and that there would be a letter left outside the office. No letter was found when we arrived, so we went to the room. Found the key as stated. The couch was stained and the pillows arranged in a way that made it appear someone had been napping on the couch earlier in the day. The chairs at the dining table were stained, as well. The stove in the kitchen was missing a nob, and the utensil drawer organizer was dirty. We decided we would check out early in the morning, because we did not wish to stay in the room as dirty as it was. Upon attempting to check out and finding the ‘open’ sign at the office, we found no one present. After calling and ringing the bell, the woman cleaning the rooms came. I explained that we wanted to check out early due to the condition of the room. She advised of a supposed policy of the owners to not refund for an early check out, but that she would “leave a note” for her manager.

Nice staff, but absolutely would not stay here again. Room was not clean. I didnt notice it immediately and wasnt going to make a big deal about it, but I found extreme amounts of pet hair not vacuumed up under the bed, the utensil drawer also dirty. I did take pictures of everything. I was willing to let this go because the staff was nice and otherwise room was cozy. On valentines day, there was a heavy snow fall. Three limbs from the tree fell. One very large and one smaller, hit my car causing over 5k of damage. Their insurance says they're not liable. That was the last straw. As a property owner Garth Schultheis (970-759-4930), isnt it your responsibility to ensure the grounds are safe for all residents? If anyone had been outside when that branch fell, they would have been killed. So, now I'm responsible for paying for my car to be fixed.

Make sure you have all your stuff before letting the maid come in. I left my wallet in the drawer and next thing u know it was gone! I was very very upest! 200 bucks that I really needed GONE! Of course they denied it said theyd have the manager call me which never happened. After me calling multiple times weeks later still no return. Me and my family visit Durango often but we will never stay here again! I hate dis honest people n they really need to pay attention to who they hire!

Great one night stay. Clean and spacious room. Customer service was awesome. I would definitely stay here again.

It's a nice little motel. It's an easy walk to the train station and downtown area without being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. We even saw a raccoon out our back window in the morning.

Love this place, I never write reviews for anyone but I feel that I must for the great staff and rooms at wapiti, I have stayed there 2 years in a row now and really loved both times, I only wish that I hadn't waited so long to book for this years trip and was only able to spend one night instead of the full seven days I was in durango, super clean rooms, awesome staff and even though I booked the room for 2 people on line when I showed up with 3 I wasn't charged a dime more than my online price, the only mention of it was that she'd need to get me a couple extra towels, she even let me check in a couple hours earlier than posted since I needed to park my truck somewhere while we took my wife's truck to head downtown, super friendly, great prices, especially for such an amazing location (anyone that says otherwise is a lunatic, if you stay here you'll know what i'm talking about) I am getting ready to book my rooms for next years trip already and I just left 5 days ago, I won't make the same mistake by booking too late again! this is truly "home away from home" for me and my family, can't wait to see you next year (your awesome staff! ) thanks for all that you do to make the wapiti the best place to stay in durango (unless you're a stuffed shirt in need of constant attention and room service, in which case you should stay elsewhere, just more room for the real people! ) I truly cannot say enough good things about this place, just love it, can't wait to get back there!

We stayed a total of 4 nights. Due to a booking error on my part — not the lodge — we experienced 2 different rooms! The first one — with the kitchenette was amazing! 2 queen beds plus a pull out couch was spacious, remarkably clean and the decor felt like home. When we switched rooms — we did not have the kitchenette or pull out couch — but the room was still spotless and well taken care of! We have family reunions in Durango every 2 years and I will never stay anywhere else! I can't remember the names of the 2 ladies from the office but you guys are fantastic and we thank you!

This place was comfortable! The beds were really comfortable. The room was clean and spacious. Great value!

Decent stay. The lady told us our room wasnt a 'dog' room. But there were PLENTY of dog pee stains on the floor to say other wise. Beds seemed/felt clean. Pillows were pretty thin. Had to stack 3 of them just to give the head up a bit. Staff was friendly though.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here this year. I will always go back to this lodge when visiting durango! The staff was so friendly and the room we had was amazing! Not to mention the view! No complaints what so ever!

Great hotel, great rooms, hot tub was awesome, and great price. Service was pretty good but they didn't service the room two nights. Also Wi-Fi was advertised but straight up didn't work, and wasn't fixed when I complained about it. If you care about internet access during your stay, skip wapiti and use a different hotel, if you don't care about internet, then its great place for a good price.

Beautiful cozy quiet place, excellent customer service very nice room. Priced totally right.

The hotel attendant was very kind when we checked in. Our room was clean and felt cozy and the bathroom was decent. Our main complaint is that the bed was extra bouncy and uncomfortable. For the price, we were not very happy with the conditions. However, we realized that in the Durango area hotels are more expensive due to the prime location, and this hotel was just a short drive into downtown Durango which we enjoyed.

Such a fun place! Room was awesome an clean. Can't wait to come back again.

Decent place for those needing a slight price break from the Durango madness but still clean and nice. Had great conversation with owners who were very friendly. Great restaurant across the street at Holiday Inn very convenient. Two visits both went well at motel… I’ll be back for sure. Rubber duck in shower made me giggle and made my night lol!

Great view of mountains, good prices, great service, friendly staff.

Not perfect, but other than the flat pillows and dark sheets which were a bit pilly, I really liked it. Nice to have a microwave + fridge for the price. I absolutely love this reprint over the bed.

The room was affordable and decently clean. I would stay there again!

I really wanted to like the Wapiti Lodge, but unfortunately it let me down. The rooms were spacious, however the decor was dated at best and the room suffered from several cleanliness issues. The bathroom specifically was borderline unusable, with hair and mold apparent in the tub and on the ceiling. The beds were stiffer, but comfortable. Heating was not universal and my bedroom suffered from being terribly cold. I likely wouldn't recommend a stay unless space is a must and money is an issue.

Affordable, pet friendly, simple. Gets the job done of a place to crash for under $100. The sheets were surprisingly soft. The bed was soft too, but I love that. Only a quick uber ride to downtown.

Inexpensive place to stay. Clean and conveniently located, but no hairdryer available in the room. Bears rummaging through the open trash dumpsters woke us up at 2am.

Rooms where decent bears eating the trash provided an up close and personal outdoors adventure.

I thought it was a decent looking room with some cute touches. I loved that the hotel faces a mountain, giving it a nice camping feel. The beds were not very comfortable and the towels weren't clean (they smelled like rubber… weird). I didn't like that they were blue colored because you couldn't see if it was dirty or not. I think it was overpriced for no breakfast but it's close to a great restaurant, Steamboat brewery, and in a very hipster town :)

Quiet, comfortable accommodations. Quaint. My daughter loved the rubber duck in the tub and the swings out front. The hot tub was an afterthought, but pleasant for a soak.

Great place and only a few blocks from down town Durango, Colorado. Everyone here is really nice.

Great place to stay! Clean good facilities, the owner operator is super nice, they allow pets and you can walk to downtown.

We just left this morning after our 3 day amazing stay. I absolutely loved it! We couldnt have found a better place for my family. It was my husband and I along with my 15 month old and 11 and 12 year old sons that cant stand to even look at each other lol. Our room was like an apartment. My husband and I had our own bedroom with a king size bed. We had a full kitchen, a fold out couch and another queen sized bed. Everyone had their own space which was so wonderful. The staff was so friendly. We had turned our keys into the drop box and then realized my husband had left some things. I just called the number on the door and the lady was down in 2 mins to get me the key back. They made sure we had everything we needed! It is close to everything and its right off the highway but was super quiet. We will definitely be back! I could not have imagined a nicer place! If the staff reads this thank yall so much! Yall made a family from Texas very happy!

Awesome place. People are friendly. Rooms are nice, more than accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here and I look forward to staying here again.

I would not recommend the Wapiti lodge to my worst enemy. Not unless you like to be given dirty looks and refused toiletries by the maid (Freida). If you have pets forget that, they are allowed but only on the floor. If you allow your animals on the beds the maid will come reprimand you. She also walks into rooms with animals, so be careful. She is already suing a young man for a dog bite at Wapiti. Also, the owner Kiki likes younger men. If you are a young couple watch out for her. She likes to come into rooms and close doors while your husband is alone. She "reads" tattoos, whatever that is. And pushes her Mormon religion. She also acts funny when her husband is there and I am present as well. If you intend on a weekly stay at Wapiti think it through.

Multiple great experiences for a very reasonable price. Felt very homey. Very understanding staff for when we were arriving late and how to go about getting out key/access to the room. Upstairs rooms are amazing. If you're trying to find a cheaper option this is the place to stay.

I wish I could give 0 stars, because that's what this place deserves. I reserved a hotel room about two weeks before. When I get to the hotel the office is closed early! No one in sight! We call the number and a very rude man answers. He informs me that he gave away my room. YOUR RESERVATION MEANS NOTHING TO THEM! I was furious! He said he didn't think I wanted it anymore! I RESERVED IT, OF COURSE I WANTED THE ROOM! He was very unapologetic and an overall jerk. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. If you're looking for an older style hotel try the Siesta Inn in Durango, five minutes from this awful place. There is also a Best Western up the road, best hotel I have ever stayed at, amazing breakfast. avoid wapiti at all cost!

Great friendly staff, managers Steve and Tina are the best! Stayed here for about month while working on the CO/NM state line.

Friendly people, comfortable clean room. Great place to stay in Durango near but not quite in the main drag.

The hotel room was great clean orderly and cheap. But the customer service was awful. The clerk on duty was named WALKER hope you never have to deal with him, he was grouchy and had an awful attitude he seemed like he felt entitled to something. Also he seemed stoned didn't know exactly how to check someone in and was confused most of the 1 hour I spent dealing with him. They need to deal with this problem before anything else. Don't stay hear if you don't want to deal with a jerk front desk.

I love this you can just melt in the bed.

The bed was lumpy and the room wasn't that clean. There is no way I would recommend staying here. It's an old motel that hasn't been updated from the 60's.

My favorite place to stay in Durango.

Room and bed was super clean and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly. Furniture was new and home style.

Nice room, nice staff, locally owned and a fair price. I should give it a 5 star rating for those previous items. They have two rooms that are pet friendly and rooms that have kitchens. Location is great. If you are looking for a fancy hotel go around the corner. If you are looking for a nice place to stay the Wapiti Lodge is it.
