Loved it! Enjoyed it so much! The decor was so very special.

This place is amazing… just got here and staff is very friendly.

Room wasn’t ready for almost 3 hours after check in. We got no assurance of when we could check in. Had to find someone to assist with luggage. Room was pretty good but customer service lacked a LOT. I’ve stayed 5-6 different times here but I wont anymore. I’d strongly suggest Best Western Plus around the corner.

Rooms are well appointed. Excellent downtown location. Right next to the train station. Easy walk to countless restaurants & shopping.

The hotel is adorable. Unfortunately, that's the only nice thing I can say. The TV in our room did not work, the coffee maker in our room did not work, and we were not given the "breakfast pastry" we were promised in lieu of breakfast (we stayed during COVID). Additionally, we were charged $250 for a smoking fee. We did NOT smoke in our room. After alerting the hotel of our concerns, we were promised a manager would contact us. I've called and emailed but received no response. We will not be back. Traveler beware!

A beautiful historic building with attentive and professional staff. Highly recommend if you want to be in the historic district of Durango and near the train depot. Hope to return in the near future.

It is lovely to look at but our room had a ridiculously noisy heater. I am a very sound sleeper and woke up every time it came on — every 45 minutes or so. When I spoke to the front desk manager, he said they have had that problem every few weeks. Why would you rent the room? He said they had others! Our room wasn’t made up when we returned from the train at 3:30! We moved to another room the next day — it was lovely. However the main point of a hotel is to rest so renting a room with a known problem is just dumb.

Was hoping for a bigger window but got a little window instead. And our heater wasn't working, had to call the desk to let them know. They got us a portable heater… but than 5 mins later had to call them again coz that one wasn't working either. Finally… they got us one that actually worked. Took a while to warm up the place. But I enjoyed the area we were at, just right on Main Street! Walking distance to EVERYTHING! It's gonna have flaws but what place doesn't? They tried and did what was helpful.

Honestly it I liked it a lot, from the soft bed to the kind workers. It was a good experience.

This is our 2nd stay. We were in the palace wing this go around. Everything was clean and tidy, plenty of hot water & linens. The room was slightly larger but the bed rolled me to the middle. There are views of the train station but none of the trains. There are only stairs to reach the palace wing rooms. I miss 4th he elevator in the main hotel.

The Hotel has many of the original lobby factures. The room are all different. The one we had was large with a King bed. The fresh baked cookie in the Evening are Wonderful. Easy walk to the Historic downtown and Restaurant. The breakfast is not worth eating.

Great location and great atmosphere. The staff was wonderful. My only issue was that the room was so hot and we could not get the temperature to come down. It was an interior room so no windows.

The hotel was the greatest. We really got a kick out of the elevator thou. So very small and hard to handle when your hands were full. But other than that this hotel was great. Very friendly employees. And the lobby was beautiful. Just can't say enough about the hotel. We can't wait to stay there again.

Lovely and clean updated bathrooms. It was a little too warm in the room as boilers run heat. I'd stay again just for the perfect spot.

An amazing hotel with amazing staff. STAY HERE YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED! Our family tradition is to go up to ride the polar express and stay at this beautiful hotel. We enjoy both so much we book the next years stay before we check out! The staff is very well trained, very warm and professional. They take great care of you. Staging anywheres else in durango will result in an inferior experience because The General Palmer has set the bar so incredibly high.

Absolutely charming! This is a historical hotel, buyer's beware. Don't stay here looking for a Holiday Inn Express but do stay here, unless you are overly pampered and like to whine. Loved everything about this hotel. It was perfect! Travel is about exploring and seeing new and different places. Stay here for a wonderful memory not just another forgettable place to rest your head. And it's walking distance to a bunch of shops, restaurants and pubs. Life is an adventure and a participation sport, so get out there and make some memories!

The room was very clean and pleasing in appearance. The thermostat would not work and the hotel help said the boiler is old, it was a toasty room. Other than the old boiler the room is extremely clean has a nice little Kurig coffee maker. :-)

We were pleasantly surprised with this gem! We initially purchased a interior room without a window and found it to be too warm. The front desk offered to move us to a room with a window, which worked out well without an additional fee. Super comfy bed and pillows, towels made for a luxurious stay. This hotel is close to the train station and often heard the train which didn’t bother us a bit. We will be back!

The staff were very accommodating following a mis hap on our number of nights being short by a day during check in. We were upgraded and enjoyed a wonderful time at The General Palmer property. Everyone so very nice and pleasant. Would highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews. However, we did not have a positive experience. The rooms were unbearably loud. Due to noise issues, we had three different rooms in two days. The street noise coming into the rooms was ridiculous. We expected some street noise due to the fact that the hotel is on Main St. But given that fact, one would think the hotel would take steps to reduce the noise, while maintaing the hotel's historic charm. On our second night there was a live band playing at the bar across from the hotel and it sounded like they were playing in our room. Aside from the noise, the rooms were okay. All three rooms we were in had stained carpets, peeling wallpaper, and damaged wood trim. The hotel staff was also okay. They were not overly interested in providing a good experience. We needed to speak with the manager at one point and were told she would be available the following day and she does not make outgoing calls, so we would have to seek her out the next time she was in the hotel. That was odd. We ended up cutting our vacation short because of our stay at this hotel.

This place is so overrated it's ridiculous. The only thing good about it was the location on the southern end of Main Street. They placed us in a room of a separate building across the parking lot. Told us they were sold out and couldn't accommodate in the "main building ". When booking through website, no mention of separate building. Stairs to second floor, no elevator. Rooms have outside entrance. Room smelled and carpet was stained. No restaurant or bar on site, you have to walk for breakfast down the street. Front desk is run by a bunch of immature college kids who didn't seem to care about making the guest feel welcome, answering questions or customer service. I would never return to this place again.

Fabulous hotel! Very clean, great staff, very nice rooms and very cool old west atmosphere. All at a reasonable price ($104.00/night)

We had nearly the entire hotel for our guests for our wedding back in June. Although there were a few management changes during our planning, the owner and staff of the hotel did everything that they could do to make sure our weekend was perfect. Everybody was so nice and accommodating! The rooms are cute and clean. We keep having friends comment on how neat and historic he hotel was. It is in the perfect location in downtown Durango, right next to the train station. This hotel has tons of character and is one of a kind. We appreciate everything that they did for a bunch of us crazy Texans and for making our wedding weekend unforgettable! Look forward to getting back to Durango soon!

This hotel is historic and quaint. It backs up to the train depot. Our room was on the top floor, 3rd, and at the back. It was good for watching the trains off the balconies, but if you sleep past 7:30, forget it. That's when the first whistles start blowing and they are loud! The room was adequate, but not big. The bathroom was tight, the door missed the toilet by a half inch. The towels were soft, thick and absorbant. The free breakfast was granola, yogurt, English muffins, bagels and some fruit. The coffee wasn't hot at 8. The location is great for walking around downtown. The staff was pleasant, but not overly helpful. It does have the oldest and tiniest elevator I've ever seen. Two people with two suitcases stuffed it! Overall it's OK, but I probably won't stay here again.

Stayed here for a weekend get away. Enjoyed it very much. Pros: Comfortable bed (we had a king), awesome continental breakfast spread (option to have it delivered), Free parking downtown, easy quick access to downtown establishments, Wi-Fi, accomendating staff (everyone we encountered had an awesome attitude. ) Cons: room was a little small so was the TV and train can be a little loud for afternoon naps.

Historic hotel with lots of character plus modern amenities. Location is unbeatable and price was very reasonable. I will return and would recommend it to friends and family. Lots of little things that made it over and above — great parking, fresh cookies, tons of towels (and robes) and pillows, continental breakfast (although I wish there was some fruit included). Plus, our room was gorgeous. Close to everything downtown, just down the block from the river for a nice morning walk, close to the Saturday farmer's market, etc.

Beautiful, cozy and historic. From the elevators to how unique each room is, it's like taking a really cool trip into the beautiful past. Well kept up and staff is great. Been here multiple times and would happily be back.

WOW! Great hotel right next to the Silverton and Durango train. A beautiful old hotel that was extremely clean and friendly. We booked two rooms and both were wonderfully decorated with king size beds with the best linens. Well worth the money.

The best hotel in all of Durango felt very welcome and at home.

The hotel is excellent but they have a non-https CC entry field on the site (covered in javascript) that seems scammy.
