It was my first time staying at a hostel and after hearing other people's experiences, I went for it and booked 3 nights at this hostel. The only bed they had left, was a bed in a dorm with 10 bunkbeds. So I knew that silent nights weren't going to be in the package.
But letting people come in at 2-3-4 am in the morning who still had to make their beds was really annoying. Luckily that was only the first night, the other 2 nights were okay! The bathrooms were okay, it can use… an update, but I can't complain for the price I paid. The mattrasses were not really firm, in fact, I sunk right in when I lay down, but they were okay. The best thing about this hostel is the location! I walked around the building and there is a great park with an amazing view on the Golden Gate Bridge. Fisherman's wharf is about a 10 minute walk along the water and it is really convenient if you don't have a car and have to use public transportation to get around. Staff was very helpful and friendly, they answered all of my questions and I was very pleased with their way of handling guests. There is a kitchen downstairs and I used it once, and they have a lot of pans and other utencils you can use! I had a beer in cafe Franco, and it is small but nice to sit down. The common room was nice, mostly because that was the place where I could charge my electronics, as there was no plug near my bed in my dorm. Overall, for my first hostel experience, I think it's a great hostel to stay at. Especially if you're traveling solo and want to be on a budget. Don't expect luxury, but the location is excellent and it's a clean place to stay at!
