Our new friends, Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla, far exceeded expectations for a most charming, relaxing escape. An architectural and horticultural gem, built in 1913 by Irving Gill and landscaped by Kate Sessions, is a destination of its own, apart from the very short walk to the beach, cafes, eclectic shops, and fine dining (fine curbside takeout—Covid-19). Nothing else was needed but our treehouse-like window perch, adorned in luxurious linens, antique collectibles, and fine art. The Fiesta room, in particular, lures you in, to lie in, draw your bath for two, and curl up with a good read. What’s more? Owner, Ed, ofttimes chef, too, is a witty, smiling character, full of heart for making everything just right for his guests. And you won’t find a better deal. Not in La Jolla—ever. Sign of the times only. During this unprecedented time, Ed wants to make his B&B available, at an unbelievably low price. Rooms normally go for $600, but we got it for $100! So, if you’re like Peter Finch, in Network, “sick and tired and not going to take it anymore” (or happy as could be), start driving. Bring the wine and cheese because you won’t leave that window seat, even though we had access to the library and other lovely nooks. (And, yes, we did this safely. They practice social distancing, even though right now we have the whole place to ourselves. We’d have had a casualty in our house if we didn’t get out. ) Thanks to Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla for saving us.

Had entire place for the weekend for the wedding of my daughter at the women’s club next door. The place, staff and experience was wonderful. Hope to repeat on anniversaries.

Romantic. Gorgeous! Friendly concierge. Amazing chef (outside the box, delectable food). Quaint outdoor dining. Memorable. Walk to everything, including a couple of blocks to the ocean. Highly recommend!

Great lil eclectic spot. Real close to everything in la jolla and great ambience… can totally recommend this place for anyone.

This bed and breakfast has an old-fashioned charm with a garden/ courtyard and beautiful buildings that are decorated with unique wallpaper and decor. Breakfast is amazing and there are always cookies and muffins out. The hospitality was greater than expected. My family and I had a wonderful time.

This is a magnificent Bed and breakfast the The staff is magnificent breakfast is magnificent it was a marvelous experiment I highly recommend.

Overall, it was an Okay stay however, if you want piece and quit, do not stay there on Fridays or Saturdays due to the event hall next door hosting weddings; yes, next door. I felt like I was a guest at each wedding. Also, there was no TV in our room, toiletries not stocked, electrical in bathroom did not work, and staff leaving early each day; sometime as much as 1 hour. Morning breakfast had much to desire. Finally, staff provided little guidance on things to due despite the website stating "We pride ourselves in providing our guests with customized accommodations and service specific to their individualized needs. "

I stayed here for the second time recently. It's got yup be one of the best values in LaJolla. The rooms are very nice and three price includes free parking and an amazing breakfast! You can eat in the dining room or in their beautiful courtyard. I choose the courtyard because the weather is amazing and the its so relaxing. I'm planning my next visit already!

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely historic B & B. The staff was so accommodating especially Bonnie who couldn't do enough for us. The room was perfect and the garden courtyard was amazing. The breakfasts were gourmet and delicious. We would definitively stay here again in the future.

Our Family booked this Inn 12/20/17, but they not allowed our family to check in w/under 15 age of kid w/guarantee to make refund, but as 1/11/18, they not refund yet, neither not give any feedback to refund request over more than 15 times or e-mail and phone calls. this is the most horrible Inn in all over the world.

Loved this cozy gem of a bed and breakfast. Exceptionally friendly staff. Wonderful breakfast each morning. Beautiful garden. Lovely parting gift. Sweet touch.

Quaint and cozy place. Not many amenities, but that's to be expected at a bed and breakfast. The staff is very polite and the breakfast was yummy. No parking, unfortunately. The area of La Jolla with absolutely gorgeous. We walked to the cove and gawked at the sea lions sun bathing on the cliffs.

Nice location and friendly staff but room decoration could be updated — you feel like in a museum…

I loved the setting, the "secret garden" patio and the charming rooms. I wish there were coffee makers in the rooms. The bathroom did not come with a glass, should you want a drink of water in the middle of the night. A nice manager had to come to our room twice to get the TV to work. Guests should know that the "free parking" is 4 or 5 spaces, small spaces for the size of a VW. The faded painting on the concrete that says "compact" cars is virtually invisible. Shrubs made it difficult to park, too. My car was damaged. Sunday breakfast was marginal — — two eggs, no bacon or sausage, and a dab of homemade sherbet. Cream for coffee ran out, too.

We appreciated being able to check in late and the room was cozy and clean. Breakfast was delicious and had a great presentation! We would value a warmer greeting from staff and love the opportunity to experience the beautiful gardens on the property. The location is ideal for walking to the ocean and the multitude of shops without needing a car! We look forward to additional breakfasts during our stay as well as the relaxation this location can offer!

The Bed & Breakfast Inn is a very relaxing place to stay, unwind and enjoy the ocean views. The Inn is only 4 minute walk to the Pacific Ocean. There are several rooms with partial views of the Ocean (horizon only not shore line). The Inn is also located 10 to 15 minute walk from excellent shopping and restaurants. A nights stay there provided us with complimentary wine and cheese in the evening and also a 3 course breakfast (fruit salad, egg benedict, rice pudding). We had an option to sit in the dining room or out in the court yard. We gave a 5 star rating to The Bed & Breakfast Inn because of comfort, service, peacefulness and walking distance to Ocean, shopping and restaurants.

I enjoyed this place. Amazing balls! :) ) I come here often as well as the LA Jolla village lodge. I'm very practical; clean, quiet, and just amazing service. I love people with good hospitality and they ought to get good reviews as the best tip! :) I'll be coming back soon as summer starts. Can't wait! :)

Was hired and immediately instructed to lie to customers about the kind of wine served. They had a nice bottle of wine out next to a gallon of cheap "chablis" tucked into the dark corner, and we were only to serve the chablis in a carafe and show the fine bottle. Further, the white wine is from wine in a box and I was told not to let the customers see it, but to fill the carafe well before the wine and cheese hour! The last girl was fired for telling customers what they were really consuming. When I was hired, the manager asked me to keep an eye out for bout $1000 in food overages, and sure enough, Torry, the other manager was treating herself and the other employees the gourmet meals designed for the patrons, and then generated two more by waking up guests early on Saturday morning to tell them their breakfast would be waiting for them, but of course they never woke to claim it, so there were more "leftovers" for Torry, who appears to be a compulsive eater. She stuffed baby tomatoes from the package into her mouth from the fridge putting her fingers in her mouth then back into the container, claiming, "I am only eating the ones that are going bad. " Each time "Torry" ate and when she woke the guests early, she said sternly "Don't tell anyone!

I am originally from Charleston, SC and staying here reminded me so much of home. The building was quite historical, warm, and charming. We were greeted by such a helpful and gracious staff-person with tea and cookies. We were told what activities we could do locally and got some restaurant suggestions. The room we stayed in was called The Irving Gill suite which included antique pieces and modern conveniences. We woke up to a delicious home-cooked meal. This place would be perfect for a group of friends traveling together or a wedding party. It’s hard to find places that remind me of home out West! Love this place.

From the almond biscotti in the mornings to the spinach, mushroom, bacon flat bread at wine and cheese the food was fantastic. Not to mention the breakfasts, which were presented beautifully. The staff was also very helpful and the location is really unbeatable. The Inn is nice and tucked away from all the noises of the village yet close enough to walk to everything.

When we made our reservations for 7 nites back in June, we were made aware of the 100% cancellation policy. We reserved the Gill Penthouse Suite, but were not told that there was no air conditioning controlled in the rooms, the "suite" consisted of 2 rooms that were not connected and in fact, you had to lock your bedroom door, go up a 1/2 flight of stairs to get to another locked room which housed the TV. We were extremely disappointed in the accommodations upon our arrival and spoke with the Asst Manager explaining our concerns and requested we be contacted by the Manager. Regardless of the cancellation policy, we elected to move out of the Inn after only (1) night as the heat was extremely uncomfortable for us. On the morning we left, we asked the weekend Asst Manager to have the Manager contact us and left our cell phone number. We were not even given the consideration of a phone call. I told them I understood the policy, but felt that under the circumstances I would like to try and work something out with them. We have yet to hear from anyone. We still believe that we should be given some consideration in refunding at least a portion of the monies we paid. The morning of our departure, we noticed during breakfast in the dining room, which was one of the worst I have ever experienced for a B&B, that other patrons were apparently having issues dealing with the heat as well. Your attention to this matter is appreciated.
