Beds are a bit uncomfortable. You have to pay for parking (per night-not included in hotel price).
But IT IS BEAUTIFUL and within walking distance of everything you will need (Ocean Beach, target, etc).
The rooms are clean and the view is BEAUTIFUL!

My first time visiting California we stayed at Ocean Villa Inn. We had the most beautiful and relaxing time. Our view was facing Ocean Beach which is beautiful and just steps away. Our room had a mini kitchen and a very large refrigerator. We had a large group of 5 and Ocean Villas accommodated us very well. We don't need to look for another place to stay next time we come, because we know we are staying at Ocean Villa Inn!

This Inn is awesome! It’s in walking distance to Dog Beach and is pet friendly. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially Lydia and Heather. Thank you both! We will look forward to our fifth visit in the nearest of futures.

Unfortunately, we checked in and I immediately noticed issues one after another called and talked to someone at the front desk, they sent housekeeping back in and they did another horrible job, I went to target to get a cleaner in order to clean the fridge microwave etc, went to wipe floors full of junk including hair etc, so I wasn’t happy, was able to get my kids ready for bed then we opened up the beds both of them are dirty one full of god knows what type of hair! Other one full of spots all over the sheets! I called them and let them know that this is unacceptable and they need to refund my money they stated they couldn’t do anything we left two hours after check in due to condition of the hotel room and the horrible half cleaning job! Frustrated! I work in the vacation rentals industry this is UNACCEPTABLE! Will not be back! Previous visit was way better two years ago! Now I wouldn’t recommend it!

Such an awesome place! booked this while driving from Phoenix to san Diego, last minute but was so happy even though we weren't traveling with a dog. Ocean beach reminds me of the 1960s and a little bit of my heart stayed there!

Super Dog friendly with a fenced dog run behind the dog rooms and a dog wash! Walk around the corner to the dog beach. Motel is quaint and comfortable. Have recommended to many. We have stayed twice and will be back!

Best place to stay for location to dog beach and dog friendly! Always courteous staff great rooms and goodie back for my dog! LOVE LOVE STAYING HERE AND will do so EVERY TIME I VISIT OB.

We have been coming to this hotel for 5 years now. The staff is friendly and the location is everything. I love that I can feel comfortable leaving my hotel and walking to the beach and still be able to see my room. The rooms are practical not fancy. With two dogs we can't do fancy. Tons of amazing restaurants within walking distance, no need to drive.

Best Hotel in California fur all your family members! They have everything needed for a relaxing beach vacation all within steps to the Beach, restaurants, shopping, and night life.

Good value basic pet friendly motel. Comfortable rooms but nothing too fancy. Basic free breakfast. Close to the beach and also the OB shopping area. Easily walk home from a craft brewery after trying to empty their kegs.

This was a beach day specifically for our pup and we crashed at the inn after. The Inn was exactly as described. The shower had great pressure with hot water and the bed was decent. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. They have a pool which we didn't use but it looked refreshing. It is under a flight path which was pretty cool for my nearly two year old daughter to see all the planes flying above. Will definitely be back! The Inn is directly behind me, I'm sitting in a grassy area before the beach. Not a great view to watch the sunset but if you walk up the bank it's very clear a beautiful.

This place is right on dog beach! Nice friendly staff, Jennifer the manager went out of her way to pick up birthday cookies at a local shop and had them in the room when we arrived! Not the fanciest place, but the puppies loved their beach vacation! (So did the adults) We will definitely be going back!

Great breakfast choices, close to shops, restaurants, grocery store and 7 Eleven. The front desk gave me a map. Took Uber to the zoo for $10 and spent every spare moment at the beach which was right there! Tons of seashells here! Kevin and the entire staff was amazing! A perfect beach hotel with linoleum floors — basic but clean. Walking distance to the pier and we fed the seagulls there. I ran the running path onto the pier and the breeze was amazing! If you don’t demand luxury, you will be happy here! I stayed here from June 11-14, 2018.

Our family has visited Ocean Villa Inn three times and it's always been a pleasant stay and well worth the competitive rate. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The free breakfast is simple but good. Situated right next to Dog Beach, the inn is perfect dog-loving lodging if you need a moderate priced place to stay with your furry, four-legged family members. A two minute walk to the beach. It's a nice hotel, but it is definitely time for them to renovate and clean up a bit. That's the only reason I deducted a star. But, we will be back.

Good things about this place: 1) Friendly staff. 2) You can't beat this location if you are traveling with dogs. The dog beach is right behind the hotel and Newport Avenue, where most of the restaurants and actions are, is only 20 minutes away on foot. 3) Lower pet cleaning fee (we paid $30 for 2 dogs for one night stay) comparing to other pet-friendly hotels nearby. 4) Outdoor dog wash area. Not so good things about this place: 1) We had a room facing the park. Because of the vicinity to the dog beach, dogs bark whenever they hear noises or see dogs and people walking by from the sliding door. We didn't sleep well because our dogs were on high alert… 2) I wish the dog run outside the patio has grass rather than just sand. 3) We did hear drilling sounds twice around 10pm, which shouldn't happen. 4) Shower stall is small and bathroom is outdated (but functional). Regardless of the slightly negative experience, this is still a great pet-friendly place to stay. I've read reviews about their beddings being old so I packed our own sheets and blankets. Upon our arrival, I think the bedding wasn't that bad so didn't need to use our own. I would definitely go back again.

We love it here! Favorite dog vacation always includes a stay at this hotel. Best tips are to bring your own mobile hotspot, invest in a broom for daily sand sweeping and a portable essential oil diffuser to diffuse the wet dog smell your dogs are going to bring back to your room after thrice daily ocean romps. Staff is great. Coffee is copious. Location is right on dog beach. Perfect! Studio room pictured, which is larger than standard room.

No way this is a 4-stars. I'd give it 2-stars max. First, the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. And if you're downstairs, the people above you will stomp loudly as they walk. Secondly, the hotel is in the flight path of the airport. Every 60 seconds there's an airliner jet taking off that flies right over and it's pretty loud. Thirdly, cleanliness is average. The interior is old and outdated. Lastly, the hotel is dog friendly which is nice because I love dogs. But expect lots of dogs barking. Like I said 2-star is accurate. 1-star I understand too. 3-star and above… absolutely no way!

Great experience, right off the beach, loved walking around. Room was clean. Breakfast was ok, no variety so gets old after a day or two but otherwise it was fine. Loved seeing all the dogs and close enough to drive to theme parks and downtown.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was great and attentive. Whatever you needed, they were very helpful. They made you feel you comfortable My boyfriend wish there was meat included in the breakfast and a real waffle maker, lol. Aka Bernadette Andrea.

The convience for your canine companion is unparallel. Room cosmetics and some features are to be desired for an upgrade. However for the ease of taking my dog with me on a little mini vacation to get out of LA, hell yes I'd stay again. My tip for a better price is to book as far in advance as possible for a good deal.

The staff at the front desk made us feel welcome immediately and by the first day of our 4 day vacation, my 3 year old was calling it home. The location is perfect, dogs everywhere and everything you need in the community is in walking distance! Great spot for a relaxing vacation.

Not a five star hotel… but definitely some of the kindest people running the show. They went out of there way on customer service which is so rate these days. Really an easy stay. Dog friendly as it literally backs up to dog beach.

We had great time at this Inn. The staff was great, the room was clean and my dog loved the dog run. The property is well maintained and is only 300 yards or so from the beach. There were other dogs who came to our sliding glass door as if asking if my Teddy could come out and play. Definitely, we will be back!

Stayed at this hotel back in October for 8 days and this was BY FAR the best hotel I’ve stayed in for the price and also taking into consideration it’s close location to Downtown SD as well as being right on Ocean beach and a very short drive to Misson Bay and PB as well. The staff were very nice and the room was clean and in great condition, had a room with a balcony and it was lovely. I recently had to cancel 24 hours prior to my vacation as 2 days prior my tonsils had swollen up massively and were causing breathing problems so I had to get them removed ASAP and could no longer go on this trip. NATE and the manager were AMAZING. I called and explained everything to Nate and he was so kind as to call the manager right there and then for me as he wasn’t going to be in anytime soon and within minutes they get me a confirmation to waive the 145$ first night and taxes fee. I am so appreciative as I was completely stressing about the cost of my copays for all my visits and surgery as well as trying to cancel everything for this trip last second and they managed to make it very easy for me! I will be choosing this hotel every time I come to SD now if I wasn’t already before. Thank you!

We took our 16 year old pit bull here for a bucket list trip. We got a welcome bag with toys, treats and poop bags. There is a doggie shower area with doggie towels. And they will take up to four dogs with cleaning fees on scale: $30 for up to 2 dogs to $75 for four. This place is magic. Great customer service. Right on the beach.

Given this place is so uniquely placed and convenient for your dog's experience on a beach, you just can not beat it when we are talking San Diego. I agree the place is worn around the edges. My bed linen has sand in it and I have not even used it yet. The shower stall is a sorry old fiberglass insert that is too small for larger people. The airport jets take off over this place. The dog run for downstairs rooms and enclosed is wonderful however I do recommend they put some effort so it has a better surface over sand dirt and whatnot. A durable grass cover might help and reduce tracking in filth. This is day one review. Three more days to go!

A favorite hotel. I stay here mostly for my dog. She loves being on dog beach and seeing other dogs in the dog run. The rooms are perfect for all of the sand that gets tracked in. The cheaper rooms are definitely cheaper for a reason, but I have always enjoyed my stay here. My one complaint is having noisy guests above me. Their stomping (all night) was audible and loud, but no fault of the hotel.

The service was awesome, walking distance from the beach. Clean! Perfect for the whole family. We had a great stay :) Perfect for families on a budget.

Stayed at the place last minute since the hotel I booked didn’t have us in the books. Great location! I love the dog bath station! Our dogs had a great time and so did we. I would stay here if you are a dog lover. The only issue we had was that our neighbors were hot boxing in the room so our room reeked of marijuana. The toaster are so super slow, I’m sure they could afford new ones. We stayed in the condos in the back and they were great beside the noise of people walking by and the airplanes. Maybe ear plugs next time. Upon check out I mentioned to the receptionist that our neighbors were stinking up our room. She reminded me that they have a 100% smoke free policy and will kick people out or charge them a $200 fee. She said she would talk to them about it, since they were also checking out that day. I also wanted to let her know that way she knew it wasn’t us. Overall we had a Nice vacation.

This is not a fancy place. The bottom floors are for pet owners but the top floors are no pets and the views are off the scale. Awesome staff the place is very clean easy to get to even the rooms that allow pets are cleaned very well. It overlooks probably the best dog beach in the state of California. It lies next to the San Diego River and just the other side of that divided by a Getty is the Mission Bay Outlet to the ocean and they run side-by-side saltwater and freshwater very cool.

I didn't have any negative experiences. The only minor issue was the TV, and they came and fixed it instantly. Breakfast was good, the fenced in back lot was great for dogs. Room was a tiny bit cramped but I still say 5 stars.

What could be better for taking your Dog with you on vacation? Dog friendly rooms, doggie wash station, and Dog Beach outside your door. Plus walking distance to all the nice little spots around Ocean Beach. Pizza Port is only a 10 minute walk away for great beer and pizza.

Employees are nice. Place is clean. Beds are not comfortable, breakfast is spartan, we found roaches almost every day. Definitely would not recommend unless choosing between this and the sidewalk.

This place was so welcoming and wonderful for us and our dogs. The dog beach is literally right behind this hotel… a very short walk away. There is a bike/walking path too, if you don't feel like getting sandy. The dogs wore themselves out! It was awesome! They have a dog wash station in the hotel area too… so handy for not getting too much sand in your room!

Location Location Location. We brought our dogs here for vacation. Ocean Beach is very dog friendly. This hotel is right on dog beach. The hotel is a step above a motel 6. The staff and amenities make up for the hotels age and need of mainteance. If you're bringing your dog with you on vacation this hotel is a great place to stay. James in the office was great, he gave us a ton of input about all of the restaurants that we can go eat at and take our dogs. We went to almost every single place he recommended and they were all awesome. All within walking distance as well. HOTEL PROS * Right on the beach * Good price * Very dog friendly — they give you a goodie bag with treats and toys. * They have a dog wash station for when you come back from the beach. * The pet-friendly rooms have a patio door that opens up into a dog run. The dog run is fenced in. * Firm beds, very comfy. Pillows were better than 5 star hotels I've stayed at. HOTEL CONS * It's a dog Hotel so you're going to hear some dogs barking occasionally. If that's a problem don't stay here. * Some of the guests do not pick up after their dogs in the dog run. It caused us not to let our dogs out there very much. Some guests also let their dogs out there unattended which caused us not to use it very much. However the hotel does a good job of cleaning up as much as they can. Some guests just don't take responsibility for their pet. * The shower has no water pressure at all. It just kind of trickles out.

Fellow doggo lovers unite and celebrate a cool dog friendly environment. For me, it's a small slice of heaven. San Diego in all is amazing so you really can't go wrong. I think they do a great job of keeping the place down home, not pretentious and really friendly in the best way, the San Diego way. I love this spot, and will be back.

As a dog lover, I cannot praise this place enough. Perfect location close to dog beach. Price was great for the area and the employees were eager to help with anything we needed. This isn't the fanciest place around. But for anyone needing a place and traveling with a canine family member, this place is set up very well and would highly recommend it to anyone. I will be returning for sure.

Staff was nice and the lobby was nice. My room was nasty. The toilet had a whole hair ball in it so I'm assuming they didn't even look at the toilet between guests. My sheets had a spot of blood on it, the room was just filthy. I emailed them and haven't heard a thing back. I'm just beside myself that I paid $230 for one night for a place that was so bait and switch. Their online photos are gorgeous. Never again and I'm spreading the word.

Stayed here for the 4th of July, we knew we would be at Ocean Beach all day long and it made it so much easier to have a room close by. Rooms were cute and had enough space for a family of six. Best thing about this place is the staff! James and Lidia were awesome! Would definitely stay here again.

The employees are amazing! If you're traveling with a furry friend, this is the place for you!. Dog run with attached patio behind pet friendly rooms and goody bags for pets with poop bags, toys and treats! I will be staying here everytime I'm in the area! Seconds away from beaches and only minutes away from great restaurants and shops! I can't recommend this place enough.

This is out 5th year staying at this hotel, we found a groupon that was a great deal and called to make sure it was the room that we wanted. We then arrived at the hotel only to be told we had to be wrong and that the room that we were thinking we were getting wasn't even offered on groupon. My wife called 2 months before and was told we were getting the room we were thinking. We now have another 2 days with 3 kids in a small room and rlthismorning my son had an accedent in the bed which the ly didn't change the sheets they just made the bed. I then went in to ask for extra towels, only to be asked why I needed extra towels. This place has really declined in customer service over the years: (

Anna and I stayed at ocean villa and Amy at the front desk was so extremely nice we were too early for our check in apparentlyour flight came in early and we hours with all our luggage until we could get our room. Instead she upgraded us to a better room with no charge and said it was ready for us right then! I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family. Thank you again Amy!

Although it's old, It is really clean ang comfortable. We had such fun times. The breakfast was much enough.

My wife had an allergic reaction in the room so we had to bail within an hour of getting there. She's not allergic to dogs. Luckily we found a nice place in Little Italy so the drive back to the dog beach wasn't very long. The kid behind the counter was cool about getting me a refund for the remainder of our stay but he couldn't refund the first night.

Here's what you get: Bed is hard, creaky and I felt every spring. Room smells… Sewer gas No heat. No extra blankets. Freezing cold in February. Terrible attempt at breakfast. The place is only barely kept up. It's run down And, last but not least, it's in the take off path of the airport. At 6:30 AN, Planes right overhead every minute or so. Stay at your own risk!

Great affordable dog friendly inn! Staff is always very nice. Rooms are clean. Bottom floor rooms are for people with dogs that have access to a dog run right out your back sliding doors. Walking dustance to Ocean beach dog beach.

We stayed at the Ocean Villa Inn because it was a dog friendly motel and right on the Ocean Beach Dog Beach. The room was clean and perfect for the dogs. It had a tile floor and a dog run right outside the back door. We had a walking path to the dog beach. They had a dog was for after beach play. The only issues we had was not with other dogs, but with guests who were staying there without dogs and we're partying and yelling half the night. We called the desk, they called them but it did not get better. We would not stay here unless we had the dogs.

Great IF you have dogs. This motel is adjacent to the dog beach in Ocean Beach. It's bare bones but very clean. We took two dogs and had a great time. The floors are tile so easy clean. The pet rooms back up onto a fenced dog yard but it's very muddy. The dogs loved it but tracked the dirt into the room. Some refurbishment should be done especially in the bathroom specifically the shower. If you don't have a dog or love dogs, you may want to try somewhere else.

Facility very old, bath door cant be closed. Price is good for pet friendly and beach front.

I love staying in this hotel the only downsize about it if u want a suite with a beach view is upstairs you know how it gets when u have lil ones with you, and than you get a called from the front office to see if everything is okay. Lol Other than that I love staying here.

Good overall. A few cosmetic things need fixing but the rooms were nice.

Due to a "manager" error I was not charged correctly? How does that makes sense? How is that my fault? Instead of comping us, they made us pay for THEIR error. Not to mention the front desk girl Lisa has the audacity to dismiss me as I'm clearly not happy with this surprise balance. Due to that experience and how it was handled we will not return. Surfers Inn is way better and has better customer service skills.

We stayed here on March 20, 2015. We didn't have any pets. The rooms are way better than what the outside of the hotel looks like. "Don't judge a book by its cover". However, our bathroom door couldn't close because the molding stuck out too far and blocked the movement of the door from completely closing. There are some panels on the wall that you can tell were fixed. The paint is bad. And finally the bathroom is in an inconvenience spot. We had to squeeze through the bed and wall to reach the bathroom. We would stay here in the future but with pets next time.

Perfect place for you and your dog to have a wonderful time. The staff is wonderful and they totally cater to the dogs. It is my vacation spot for my dog and I to go. I love it being so close to the beach and they have a nice place to wash your dogs with towels provided. I love I can drive there and forget about my car and just enjoy the beach and hotel. It is great to have a microwave in the room. Their prices are beyond reasonable for being on ocean front property.

Great stay! Awesome view, great price, comfortable beds! I can't say enough about this place. You cannot get a better value for where this hotel is. The beach is beautiful and has a section for dogs.

Good place for dogs. Right next to Dog Beach. Non-smoking room reeked of smoke as soon as I stepped in but was the only room left so I made due. Wifi wasn't working and when notified lady at the front desk was unhelpful: "I have never heard of a problem with the Wi-Fi but I can maybe check with maintenance. " Not good considering the rate, 200+/night.

Pet purrrrfect. The place to stay if bringing your dog to OB. Lower level dog rooms have no view of the ocean and open onto a communal dog run. Random dogs came into our room when we left the patio door open in the morning for an impromptu meet and greet (Fun! ). Make sure you dog gets along well with others; otherwise a full time leashing will be required. We tired our dog out in the morning, and explored DT OB in the afternoon (easy walking distance).

Not my first choice but I settled because I wanted to be walking distance from the beach. The area is a little sketchy, with 2 small kids we stuck right by my husband. The motel itself is eh ok. If I was visiting anywhere else I wouldn't stay at a place the looked like this for $129 a night id rather stay at best western. The beds weren't great. And the double queen room is tiny. The remodel ed room has a half a$$ paint job and the floor squeaks worse then and wood house. Felt like the whole top floor was leaning. My biggest complaint is the big deal about smoking. Apparently San Diego is smoke free. So pay attention! No smoking on your motel balcony or walking down the street or on the beach! sucked! The pool was about 1 star. Our first night was ok, second was bad we check out at 3 am instead of 11 am since we were woke up by drunk people and barking dogs! The only great thing about this motel is the very friendly staff! They were very welcoming and laid back.

We love Ocean Villa Inn! The place is clean, and the pool is heated! We have been going there for 15 years! If you are looking for, or accustomed to The Ritz Carlton, go somewhere else! This is a dog hotel, by dog beach, so there are dogs. Don't go to a dog friendly hotel at the beach and complain about the dogs! Or the sand! Ocean Beach itself is classic, and this is right there at dog Beach! The staff is always super nice, and breakfast! Yay.
