The rooms were large and pretty and the hotel is located right by the gaslight district. The hotel staff was not very attentive. I ordered ice and 45 minutes later I called back and asked if it would be easier to come down to pick it up since it has been quite a while and she told me no they dont have ice at the front desk. I waited 5 more minutes before going down and the man at the desk was able to go in the back and get me ice. The lady on the phone definitely had an attitude.

We visited the Westgate to see some friends on our vacation. Beautiful, elegant hotel. The entire atmosphere oozes money and pampering, in a good way. Much too expensive for me, but if you can afford it or have found good deals, it would be much worth it to go here. We attended a Jazz night with appetizers and drinks and it was delicious, if not strong on the drink side. Pleasant experience overall.

My husband and I love The Westgate. Great accommodations and service. The room service food and beverages are awesome. We had the best coffee, creme brule, sorbet, breakfast etc.

Have had a great experience so far. Breakfast in the dining room was amazing Clarisse was fantastic. An amazing and knowledgeable waitress. Great personality! Room was clean and check in was fast. Love the decor. I am tell designer put alot of thought into this project. The trims are spot on!

1. Great customer service! 2. Great location. There is a Corner bakery cafe that provides very simple and nutritious food. A Chipotle is across the street of that cafe if you prefer something different. The trolley runs next to the hotel. 3. Clean and comfortable. 4. Very dated decor. 5. There is a horrible odor in the drawers! I felt I was opening some 100 years old drawers! Now my stuff smells like those drawers: (

Excellent staff, very welcoming by their decoration. The modern gym and full-as well as the spa. Highly recommended.

Beautiful hotel, extremely helpful staff! If you end up on the side of the building next to the Metro, just call the front desk and ask for earplugs. If you're only looking for a cheap stopover, skip out on this place. But if you are looking for a nice getaway, it's wonderful!

Great location and a nice hotel. We were on the 15th floor and it had an awesome view of downtown SD. The location was perfect for checking out gaslamp as well as walking down to the pier. What really made the hotel was the front desk — the woman who checked us in was so friendly and helpful, and every time we walked back in she would ask what we did and if we had fun. The hotel itself had an old time feel which we enjoyed.

Too loud! Noise from the trolley constantly honing their horns is annoying. Rooms on the north side were especially loud. Great location, but too loud to be able to sleep when the trolleys are running between 0500 am and 2300 pm.

Such a great hotel close to the Gas Lamp District which has a ton of bars and restaurants. Rooftop pool and hot tub are great. Brand new spa/fitness center. Vegan options on the food menus. Big rooms with nice views.

This place is a time warp, but not in a bad way. Go here almost every thanksgiving. Beautiful decor. Excellent, though overpriced, dinners. The staff is always friendly. The rooms need to be remodeled — clean and comfortable but worn out.

Honored Hotel with a great history. Very nice rooms and very friendly staff. Great room service with very tasty dishes. I was particularly fond of desserts. Breakfast is served only à la carte. But this is a great change from the usual buffets.

This is a very nice hotel, it is wonderfully appointed, many details. Each room has a semi private entrance. I had a changing area and bathroom with a separate sleeping area. There was s nice view of the San Diego downtown. The location is excellent very close to the gaslamp district and a short walk to the waterfront. Most of the public transit runs near the hotel you can easily hop on and get any where. It's a short ride from the airport as well.

We had a Wedding Reception in the Versailles Room, it turned out to be so amazing. 5 Stars for the Staff and Catering it was everything we could have hoped for and more. It was wonderful, the food was fantastic. Thank You Westgate Hotel for helping us celebrate our daughter's big day!

Gorgeous Hotel. In the summertime they have poolside live jazz music which is such a fun and beautiful event to attend. Perfect for date night. Year round they have live jazz inside the hotel as well.

I visited the hotel for afternoon tea. It is a very nice experience. The service is great and the harpist really made the experience phenomenal. Two things did bother me: first, the valet refused to take our car and made us take it into the garage and second, the guests are loud and sometime you cannot hear the harpist playing.

He is the best hotel for ospedarse and some of the best restaurants for you to enjoy with the family the service that the customer is perfect.

The spa/pool facility is also wonderful. I had a room on the 5th floor and unfortunately had a 700 party one of the night right in front of my window. One of the front desk woman was not particularly pleasant, but I tried to not pay attention. Overall, the hotel is really nice and the rooms are very large. I would go back again.

I was meeting my business partner Jacob Lloyd there for a business lunch. Within a few seconds there instead of being greeted or asked if I needed assistance, I was confronted by a bald headed white male security guard or manager with glasses in a suit. He showed up out of nowhere. He literally interrogated me and got up into my personal space. I was there for a business meeting but that didn't matter. He was racist and said he didn't want my kind there. He was so angry with me. I never met anyone so angry. I left being concerned about my safety and text my business partner about the incident. He was shocked and text me where else we could eat at down the street. We had our business lunch at a Restaurant in Little Italy instead. My business partner knows the owners of this hotel for years. Be careful of that bald headed guy in a suit!

Had high tea in the lobby with a group of 12. Was very nice. Lots of small little finger foods that were delicious. Thought I wouldn't get full because of the small bites but by desert I was full!

Very nice rooms and excellent staff. However, don't get a room on the north side unless you want to listen to the metro trolley's horn all night. If you still hear it, make sure your balcony sliding door fully closes.

The size of our room (the standard one) was fantastic. Great water pressure and nice pool. The staff was quick and friendly. We had a hard time sleeping on the mattresses. They were pretty soft and seemed saggy in the middle. Could have been our preference though. There were times when it seemed like the hotel was a little understaffed as they were running around and we had to wait for a while to talk to a staff member or get our vehicle.

The hotel was beautiful and the service was excellent! Though, I considered parking elsewhere overnight and walking to the Westgate. $40 for valet parking, and there was no self parking. Plus an additional $20+ of fees during checkout. We stayed over for my mom's birthday. They brought her chocolates and a sort of sparkling lemonade with a nice note. She was surprised and delighted! There were green apples by the pool and exercise equipment surrounded by a running track. Then there were spa/massage options as well. Great location within walking distance of Gaslamp/Downtown restaurants, bars, shops, and more!

The entrance was a bit dramatic with a ton of employees outside tending to various so stations near the entrance. I was greeted almost excessively once I Actually found the entrance, which was in a surprisingly odd side of the building. Overall the room was pretty basic but lovely. What I didn't like was that the room next to me shared a common front door is really strange all that worked.

Beautiful hotel within walking distance to convention center, two grocery stores and Gaslamp Quarter. We really liked the outdoor pool and workout area on the third floor. Rooms are very large which could have fit a family of four easily but that was not the case for us. We were only able to book 2 people-per-room which meant we needed to book two adjoining rooms. Expensive. Very noisy with the tram running back and forth right next to the hotel.

Great pool area. Balconies are a nice touch. Staff is very professional and accommodating. Nice restaurant and bar. Decor feels like you've transported back to the 30s. Really cool.

My wife and I took her parents to Mother's Day brunch at the Westgate. I was, in a word, incredible. The food was excellent and the variety of dishes available was amazing. To top it off, the staff was polite, friendly, professional​, and attentive without a hint of hovering. An absolutely perfect morning that our mother truly enjoyed.

The Westgate is a 4 star hotel. They emphasize excellent service, and the hotel is well-maintained, and run. That said, it's an old hotel, and I think there's been more emphasis on preserving what makes it historic and beautiful than what makes it functional. The shower leaked onto the gorgeous marble floor in the bathroom. The elegant antique faucets sputtered water out. This is a beautiful hotel, and the service is phenomenal, but expect some flaws.

The final price add 22USD of charge per room, more 50 charge per night for parking. The bathrooms of the rooms do not have insurance or have an extractor, I left out of my room for about 2 horar waiting to fix the knob electronics. The cost was excessive and they have many hidden fees, I suggest you consider other options before this hotel.

I visitited the Westgate Hotel few times and I always received an exceptional service by the staff, who have always been incredibly helpful and able to satisfy my needs. Rooms are simply amazing and most of them offer a great view of the city.

The lobby is really amazing. Looks great. The rooms are nice. The TVs are very old. Good size, service is good. Valet charged us extra but it wasn't too difficult to get it reversed.

I've stayed here a few times and is always a great place to stay. The location is great with close proximity to great dining and shopping. Clean rooms, helpful staff and comfy beds. The valet parking is pricey but other places to park close by. Do your research on parking before checking in.

I love this hotel! Every detail was perfect! Large clean rooms, turn down service, huge beautiful floral arrangements, helpful and kind staff, a business center that doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for copies, and an amazing classic remodel. Wow! I've been to a lot of nice hotels around the world and this was honestly one of my favorites!

We recently had a work event there and the staff was wonderful. The Banquet manager was super helpful as well as the entire service team. If you are looking for a good place for a work meeting they are a great option. Parking is a little high but super convenient. Appetizers were excellent.

In town for an ACS conference and Westgate Hotel was one of the 'official' hotels. Within walking distances to conference site and Convention Center. Good selection of restaurants for sit-down or quick-bite meals around the hotel. Decent view from my 12th floor room at the corner of 3rd & C Streets. Good number of homeless folks sleeping on sidewalks too all around. Friendly staff especially the front desk. Feels like the hotel from another time when service was parts of hotel industry's hallmark. The operator knew my name when I called for wake-up reminders. Breakfast in the lobby restaurant was so-so. Decent food, small portions, friendly staff. The problems was the non-stop sirens, construction jack hammer and shipping calls from San Diego Bay even in the early wee hours. It seemed the noise insulation of the room was sub-par. I should had asked for ear plugs from front desk, now that I think of it.

I liked very much! The Valet was little truck, but everything went well.

Here's the best of ushers, and Shraddha Carlin, the careful and thoughtful take care of us, help us out here, call a taxi or tell us the right direction, recommend restaurants, etc. Really super good! Room service Annamarie every day for our Breakfast, we care. The hotel, the rest of the staff were very good to us. Strongly recommend this place! If I go to other cities also West of the hotel, my first choice there!

It was our Anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised to find out our room was Upgraded and got a great view of downtown. We even got a complimentary limonade bottle and chocolate covered strawberries. We had a wonderful time. Thank you Westgate Hotel.

My wife and I stayed here early December when it's cheap to travel and we thought it was a great value. The location is fantastic with the GasLamp district and waterfront within walking distance. Also, the train is right out the back door and there is a cab every 5 seconds. As for the hotel itself, my wife loved the old-world feel and the rooms were nice. I thought the service from the employees was first-rate. No issues whatsoever when we stayed. Breakfast was a great value and fabulous, the drinks Rocky was mixing up in the bar were unique and great. We will definitely stay here next time through.

This place was amazing! Beautiful hotel, super friendly, super helpful staff. They were very accommodating. Perfect location to just about anything you want to go to. It's right by the Civic Center trolley station which was easy to use if you don't want to drive around and deal with parking.

The staff were very attentive and friendly all the time, and the hotel had nice touches like 4 free bottles of water every day, and a turn down service at night. The hotel is beautiful and really well maintained, and there are literally taxis waiting right outside to take you wherever you wish to go. A great experience, a wonderful hotel, it was so worth it.

They told us they upgraded us, but somehow we ended up in the same room. $15 mandatory fee at the time of check-in! You have to pay that if you want to stay, even though nothing is mentioned at the time of ordering! $32 for valet — are you kidding me? This hotel had the worst service I have seen and I travel often. Very disappointed.

The hotel itself is very nice and — old world charm and luxury. The room we had was very spacious and well kept. I felt very nickel and dimed (or should I say five and tened) by the mandatory service charge and valet parking. Together it was an additional $47 a night to stay on top of the pricey hotel room. Our room faced the NBC building and Gaslamp district and was noisy at night with sirens going by and people yelling and having a good time. I was able to sleep fine despite this. I enjoyed my stay and the great location, but for the price, will probably look elsewhere next time in San Diego.

Why the $15 mandatory service charge? I hate these. If you have to pay it, why isn't it in the cost of the room? Out of spite for this, I'll never stay here again. Hidden fees bother me. If you like old, classic woodwork and fancy old desks that look like junk, but probably cost a lot, you'll love this place. I much prefer a more modern place, so this place wasn't for me.
