EVERYTHING about this hotel was awesome. Beautiful rooms, adorable bathrooms, high ceilings, covid19 compliant, friendly staff… and wonderfully haunted! This historic hotel was a part of the ghost tour I did with my family last August (2021). And I had a few experiences there myself. Totally recommend staying here. Will definitely be returning!

Bed was super uncomfortable. Policy was not explained well. Was told I needed to give a card to put a $100 hold on but could switch upon check out. Switched at check out but not I have a hold on both accounts for not only the hold but room rates. $800 hung up all weekend. When we called they just said just wait for your bank to drop the changes or call them Monday.

Housekeepers are on top of every little detail, friendly and prompt service, very clean suite.

What a beautiful building! staff was amazing… the bed was heaven! Near great restaurants and shopping.

I checked in and my first room was over 80° and I couldn’t sleep in that. They moved my room and it’s okay but nothing luxurious or fancy for the pricey they charge. I think they have better options in San Diego for about the same price.

A unique hotel. The room was nice, but the floor of the room above me creaked a lot when the person walked across the room. They are remodeling, and I'm betting that room hasn't been updated. My room looked updated, and the floors had no creaking.

Very friendly staff. I ask someone at the desk to find about excursions out of town and he went out of his way to find anything available. Breakfast is very good. And the location is awesome. Yes it is a little noisy down at the bar in the evenings but all the rest was great. Very clean and spacious rooms.

We had a wonderful experience here on the week we were married. Wonderful staff and warm atmosphere.

Wonderful! Four of us came in for a conference and didn't want to use the conference hotel because it was cookie cutter and overpriced. I do not regret for one minute staying at the Horton… Beautiful. The Best staff. Super comfortable bed. The bar staff were very friendly when we would sit down and chat after the conference. It's in a great neighborhood. Lyft drivers were everywhere so super easy to go down to Little Italy. Will be the hotel I go back to. Thank you for a wonderful display.

We had our wedding here and it was fantastic! Jennifer was an awesome help. The whole team was very flexible with allowing us to make it our own. Everyone had a great time. It was gorgeous! I cant say enough good things…

This hotel is in such great proximity to the Gaslamp and Marina areas. So relaxing. Great bar especially if you enjoy whiskey.

⭐️⭐️ staff was terrible. We came on a Friday Saturday and Saturday night it sounded like a riot was going on outside. Front desk said it happens every Saturday night. Unfriendly staff and understaffed. Valet was the only bright spot but it was $45 a night and really the only option. Beautiful hotel though.

Very nice hotel in the gas lamp district, close to everything we wanted to do. Friendly staff with clean but small rooms. Fireplace was nice but the bed was too close to see or enjoy it. Very nice hotel bar and restaurant but items weren't always available from the menu at either one. We arrrived early and were told that if we waited until noon to check in we wouldn't be charged for early check in. When we checked out the "early check in fee" was the first item on our bill.

Very clean with helpful and kind staff. The historic restoration was beautiful! I would definitely stay there again and recommend this place to people I know.

Not bad, pretty nice looking place. The walls are paper thin, this is not an exaggeration. You can hear everything going on at the tavern, every conversation. You can hear someone whisper in the room next to you. Speaking of so, I was awake at 11:50pm to the neighbors having sex. Lastly, the valet is $45 a night while the parking garage around the corner is 15 a night.

Overall a pretty great hotel. The whole ambience of the hotel is awesome. However, the pillows were terrible. They were all flat and about half the width of a standard pillow. That is really my only complaint though.

Friendly staff. Clean room. This hotel is within walking distance to so many restaurants, grocery store and seaport village. Bar staff is not as friendly as I would like but overall enjoyed my stay. Will stay here again.

Great hotel for the price. I attend work conference held at the Hyatt/Marriott/convention center. This hotel is fairly close (~7-10 min walk). The hotel is a great value. The toiletries are ok, but not excellent. The restaurant and bar are quite good, maybe a touch overpriced but competitive with local places. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Small coffee pot in the room. I've been here twice and the noise from the street is minimal. And the hotel is less than half the Hyatt (even with the"group block rate" for work). Will definitely stay here again.

Cozy, historic hotel that's really well-appointed. The renovation was done perfectly, so we didn't lack any modern amenities where we needed them. Right in the heart of downtown, great view if you get one of the balcony rooms, and a good whiskey bar downstairs which had live music everyday that we were in. Their inner courtyard is beautiful to just sit back and do nothing. Except for the lack of enough charging points in the rooms, I have nothing to complain about. They are also very reasonable for the value you get (150-200 USD/night depending on the room) and it doesn't feel like living in the middle of Grand Central train station like it sometimes does in other similarly-priced hotels. Great place overall!

Overall, the hotel is nice and I don’t have any complaints about the cleanliness or upkeep. However, there are some things I think all people considering staying here should be aware of before making their final decision. First, the rooms are obviously antique/vintage so that comes with its own limitations. For example, the shower and sink are super low so if you’re over 5 feet tall you’re going to be doing a lot of leaning over or ducking when when washing your hands or trying to shower. But, if you can manage to deal with that there’s only one other thing that may change your mind about this spot. Between the approx. Hours of 10pm to 3am, the noise from the nearby bar/club is so overwhelming that you can hear everything from the people’s conversations to the opening and closing of the door. If you are a light sleeper, you will probably not enjoy the night very much. If you’re a deep sleeper, it may take you a little longer to get there with the blaring music and loud crowd.

We were looking for wedding venues. While we chose another venue, we had a great experience. The staff was very kind and helpful. Some of the additional touches, like the elevator displays and historical significance really put our experience at the 5 star mark!

Not bad, just not special or all that great. Comfortable bed, but a lot of street noise got into the room. The bathroom was clean but the shower head was at chest level (I'm 6 feet tall). Housekeeping came into our room without waiting after knocking just once at 8:30 am. There is no complementary breakfast and I'd say the buffet is overpriced but there are plenty of good places to eat within a block or two. If I went back to San Diego I would look for other places first.

We were so disappointed with this hotel. Obvious reasons for booking the hotel… Sleep, whisky and food! All night there was people walking around on the floor above us during our 2 nights stay preventing us from getting sleep. The whisky we wanted wasn't available and therefore we couldn't do the tasting we had planned too and 70% of the menu wasn't available due to changing the menu. So disappointed! To top it off reception staff were so unfriendly and unwelcoming. Not once didn't someone say hello as we returned to the hotel or ask how our day was going. Avoid staying here. Stay elsewhere… On the off chance they have the whisky and food available you could try these without staying at the noisy hotel without any customer service.

Loved this hotel. So unique and the rooms were clean and nice. I loved all the decorations, the patio was amazing. It overlooked the garden area with lights. I would definitely stay here again!

Present at the Rstudio:: Conf conference, then seen only as a participant. Management of salt, audio and video exceptional. Terrace with pool for very nice and scenic parts. Bathrooms, as long as it is discounted, very clean. Food and buffet both main meals and great breaks, varied and abundant. Very friendly and helpful staff Really pleased and happy with the choice made by the organizers.

I wanted to give this hotel a ‘great’ rating but the front desk ruined it. The hotel is lovely, clean and has a suburb location for being in town without a car. The 2 queen room I booked was not available when we checked in but I was told I was being upgraded to a suite of greater quality… um 1 queen bed and a sofa sleeper from the 80’s was not an upgrade for 3 adult siblings. The hotel is plastered with advertisements for their daily brunch from 7am to noon, but when we went down at 10:30 it was nowhere to be found. A gentleman said it had to be removed and the restaurant closed so they could prepare for lunch. Again we were fooled by advertising. Then day 3 of 4 an ear piercing alarm when off at 7am. Front desk reported it was not a fire alarm and they were working on it. Only good thing was we were definitely up early enough for the 7am buffet.
Again I really wanted to love this place and give it 5 stars but each complaint to the front desk fell on unhelpful, unfriendly and unapologetic ears. 5 stars for cleanliness, decor and location, 1 star for front desk so it was about a 3 star experience.

First time here. Can't wait to come back. What a gem! This is a first class hotel with an incredible history. Facilities are top-notch. Gorgeous architecture with beautiful antique furniture. Clean, clean, clean. Awesome ambiance, mood lighting at night, bright and cheerful by day with lots of windows, fantastic bar, ample and tasty buffet breakfast, wonderful staff. Our room was beautiful, clean, high quality everything. Gets our vote for the best place we've ever stayed in this city. We've been to San Diego many times.

Pro — Recommend this place for solo travelers. Feels safe, clean and spacious. Good location too. Con — if you are light sleeper you may not like as there is a club opposite.

This has got to be by far the coolest hotel in San Diego. Wyatt Earp used to stay here back in the old western days. The history behind this hotel is absolutely phenomenal! The manager Nick gave us an amazing tour and told us all the history of the hotel. The story about the staircase is amazing. He even took us into the haunted hotel room itself. They have an amazing scotch selection! The best I've ever seen. And all the employees are super friendly. If you're in San Diego and want to have a very unique hotel stay, check out the Horton. You won't regret it.

This is a fantastic hotel. There was a working fireplace in my room (the grand suite), and a private balcony. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bartender downstairs recommend a delicious bottle of Spanish champange. Overall my stay was a great experience, and I would definitely give my recommendation.

Everything is great here. Service is top notch. So friendly. 4 stars only cause the bed was way too soft. Waking up with back issues. But I guess that is my problem.

Horton Grand Hotel — Heart of the town, in the town Really lovey hotel that lives up to its name. As it is in the town’s heart, it makes for easy get around. The hotel has lovely staff, especially in Salt n Whiskey where we were treated so well on Christmas Day. Highly recommended hotel in San Diego.

Classic look and feel to the place. Rooms were nice but small. The restroom were clean. The restaurant was open for breakfast every day but other meals on select days. The staff was nice and helped a bunch.

Excellent hotel! Location, price, staff all couldn't be better. Loved the antiques in the room and all over the hotel. Balcony was small but still nice to sit outside. Fireplace in the room. Highly recommend!

Beautiful and historic hotel. Great location just a few blocks away from the main street. Staff is super friendly. Only cons are no parking available so either valet or parking garage and no refrigerator in the room. Otherwise, would highly recommend this hotel.

Gorgeous historic hotel in the heart of San Diego. The decor is impressive. My room is gorgeous, the bathroom is to die for. And the room is pretty quiet considering the busy downtown location. Easy valet parking is offered.

The front desk was very nice and welcoming. The room I had was very clean. Although it is in the middle of the Gaslamp district, you couldn’t really hear anything from the streets. It is within walkable distances to restaurants and shopping stores. Great place to stay!

Can not begin to say how disappointing this hotel is. Serivce is the worst I've ever encountered. Seems to be run by teenagers. When I asked to speak to a manager regarding several matters I was told no manager was on site. I tried to call the front desk on 2 occasions, the phone rang and rang — no one answered. I had to go to the lobby to ask that a cab be called at a certain time and after waiting past the specified time, I was told they forgot to call the cab. They called and sent someone who smelled so badly and seemed go be purposely driving slowly to increase the bill. After arriving back at the hotel, the desk clerk couldn't be bothered helping us — kept rolling her eyes and was laughing. So insulting and rude. She even started helping someone else while I was talking to her to get matters resolved. So sad to see how low this hotel has sunk. I have stayed here previously and experiences were good.

The area around the hotel is awesome. It's got a ton of great bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is also very cool. The only issue I've had is that several members of the staff weren't very easy to get along with. There were several issues with getting our rooms, despite booking them months ago.

The hotel has a nice bar and lobby area with beautiful staircases. We booked a 3rd floor room with a king sized bed. It overlooked the street near the front entrance. The ceilings we're probably 18 feet high, which made the room feel very spacious. It included a bay view style window and a balcony which allowed us to see many of San Diego's high rises and enjoy our AM coffee outside. Staff members were very efficient and courteous. Valet parking is an additional $42 for 24 hours and includes in and out service… Otherwise, finding parking on your own will limit you to metered machines or attended lots a block or two away which may save you $10. Overall, my wife and I were quite happy with our stay.

Being a transplant from the East Coast it brought back thoughts of home. Vintage beauty at it's best. Price is right and decor is absolutely a walk in the park. Staff are friendly and just makes your stay even better. Can pretty much walk to do many things you won't need your car till it's time to leave.

I stayed a night here during a girl’s weekend trip. Such an easy place to find and valet was great. We checked in on Saturday at 3pm on the dot. No line. Check in was fast and easy navigation to the room. Good size room. Clean. Access to balcony. A lot of storage for clothes and items in room. Not so much counter room/space or cabinets in our bathroom. But it wasn’t too big of a problem for us. We managed. Ice machine was close and a house keeper was near and was nice enough to give us a couple extra towels we knew we’d need later. Over our stay there was no issues. Nice guests and nice employees. NOW! Almost 2 weeks later I realized I left behind 4 items! Two piece bikini a beach towel, and a cover up. I called immediately when I realized at 10:30 at night. I spoke to Jasmine at the front desk. She looked up reports and found my room number and the items I described on this written report. She said to call back the next day and speak with the Concierge. He took care of the lost and found items and he would have to pull them from their storage. I did just that. I spoke with Austin. He told me he’d call me back. I was worried. It wasn’t that valuable to me, it could be replaced, but it was pricey. He called me back in about 12 minutes. He had my items in hand. I was so excited. I lived almost 2 hours away but I said I would go pick them up when I would be in the area for work. Again, easy to find, valet let me park right in front with no issue.

Beautiful hotel with Old San Diego charm. Balcony rooms at no additional cost. Working gas fireplace in the room. Beautiful furnishings throughout. Clean and comfy. Our room was a bit small, but provided everything we needed. Close to many attractions. Friendly, professional service. Be prepared for the $42 per day parking. If you are coming and going you are not going to find a better deal in the area, but it was a bit of a shock to me.

Somewhere between hostel and hotel you have to love this place for what it is. Yes, you can hear the street easily and the shower / bathroom facilities are shared, but everything is clean and the individual running the front desk is personable and available. Affordable, great location.

The whole purpose of this district is for bar hopping… Which I don't do or like.

Had a wonderful stay here overnight on a Friday evening! Found the hotel to be super charming. Love the history & decor. Found it to be very clean & the staff seemed to have a lot of pride & to do a good job. We enjoyed cocktails in bar in evening before going out in the town. Walking distance to everything. Got a kick out of the original style bathroom plumbing. Loved the armoire & fireplace in room. The staff was informative & honest that the street could be lively but we chose a balcony, loved the view & found it fun. The period decor on the elevator ride between floors is a nice touch. In the morning we had delicious breakfast in the courtyard patio & Wales thru the beautiful restaurant in lobby. Definitely would recommend & return to stay.

The Horton Grand Hotel is adorable! There is an elegant meeting area in the middle for events that you overlook as you go up the elevator. The rooms are well kept and the hotel over all is cleaner than many places I've stayed. The location is in downtown San Diego so you're close to anywhere you could want to go. The building is also really easy to locate, even after enjoying a few drinks. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful with anything you need.

It isn't bad but I wanted more. Good location. A boutique hotel. Old furniture / old feel. We had a 4th floor room with a fun balcony to people watch.

The room was a bit old-fashioned, but the location, price, and modern amenities were perfect. We'll be back for future stay-cations for sure. We had reservations at The Oceanaire and it was walking distance.

This is particular, has the amenities of a four star but is very quaint and interesting. All liberty, inner courtyard where breakfast is served. It is worth a try, it doesn't cost much either. Full in the gaslamp.

The courtyard is amazing. Kind of a new Orleans vibe. And the piano bar is beautiful with a great ambiance. Very vintage.

I had a beautiful room with a balcony. The food downstairs was great — especially enjoyed the bacon-wrapped dates and the beignets! Both management and staff were friendly and responsive to our requests. I'll definitely stay here again!

Awesome atmosphere at this hotel. It makes you feel like your in an old movie. The usual crowd seems to be a bit older but you seriously cant beat this location. It's right next to the gas lamp district but far enough away to be relatively quiet. Only downside was that maybe because it's an older building the floors were super creaky and it sounded like the people above me were constantly doing jumping jacks.

Wow, just wow. This place is popping with culture. The rooms are extremely nice and the bar/dining area are elegant as heck. My stay here has made me want to become a better man. It's opened my eyes to what I can become. To put it into simpler terms, nice freaking hotel right there.

The hotel/building has been around since the 1800s. That being said, don't come here expecting modern-looking rooms. Their website tells you this and it's supposed to be a sort of highlight of staying here. We started in the queen room was balcony and moved to their bigger king size with a sofa and microwave etc. We loved it. Outside noise comes in as well as people stomping overhead. Some wallpaper in questionable condition as well as old fashioned looking piping. Again, remember it's literally a very old building and I think it's intended to reflect that in every way… the first room had the toilet set up where you pull the strip to flush — it was cool. The valet is $35 per night. I'm over protective of my vette, so skipped that. There is a parking lot within a 90 second walk (yes, I timed it) that charges $30 for the night and on Sunday just $20. That's what we did. All in all, good place to stay.

This is a must see area. Alot of restarants and pubs. Alot of vagrants and pan handling. But it is a fun place.

My wife and I came here for our anniversary as a gift. Very quaint hotel with period Furniture, fans, doors, windows, fireplaces and neat architecture from the late 1800's. Fortunately it has all the modern conveniences of Wi-Fi, air conditioning and cable tv. The staff was very helpful. The only negative was the peeling paint in the bathroom.

I was at the hotel for an event, not to stay the night, so I can't say if the rooms are on point; but everything else surely was! It's a very unassuming place, filled with art, old artifacts and charm. I had a great time just looking around and enjoying the hotel, the event itself went smoothly so I can also appreciate that. I hope have an excuse to come back sometime, it's a cool place.

The service is terrible. I stayed in hotel for a week. The room service didn't replace used staff like shampoo. I was have to complain to reception that I am running out of shampoo. They promised to check and give a new one. But they didn't. I was have to go to reception to get a shampoo next morning. Another day, I stayed in the room until 11 am. I put sign do not disturb. When I left room I switched it to clean now. The room was not cleaned this day at all. I do not recommend to stay in this hotel. You can find many other with the same price around with a good service.

5th Avenue Auto Showcase in the Gaslamp this Sunday was more than I ever thought it would be for FREE. Tons of super nice cars GTO 1952 Volkswagen Beetle ELECTRIC if your going to go electric what a perfect cool car to do it in. Loved all the cars & then stopped off at Irish Pub.

I stayed here during a conference and it was an easy walk to the San Diego conference center at the Marriott. There are plenty of restaurants nearby such as Cafe 222. The Cheese Shop restaurant in the hotel is open for breakfast and lunch and they make a great club sandwich. I found the front desk helpful and very friendly and the room was always tidy. The ambiance is very 1920's with lounges on each floor and a great central staircase. Don't miss the little display windows on each floor of the elevator ride. The bathrooms are small, but perfectly usable. The fireplace and furniture in the room are nice and old fashioned in keeping with the rest of the decor.
