Reviews of Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection 4*
Hotel del Coronado is slaughtering wildlife. They claim to be "eco friendly" but they are massacring opossums and other animals that have every right to be there. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS until they pledge to stop killing wildlife.
Amazing and beautiful hotel and scenery. The best experience in San Diego.
A special destination! Beautiful setting and wonderful service.
Very scenic, beautiful surroundings. Loved the fire pit outside of our room. Would live to come back again soon. Dog friendly and family oriented.
Love the atmosphere! The hotel is beautiful and very family friendly. The spa is excellent and the restaurants are very good!
Excellent food, good customer service and a lot history.
Wonderful place to visit! Such old charm and character!
The staff at the hotel was so friendly and helpful. The service was legendary. The structure of the hotel was beautiful, and the grounds were clean and well kept up. Great cocktails at the outdoor bar!
Staff was very nice once they saw us 28 minutes after sitting down in the hot sun.
Had a great stay this last weekend in our ocean view room. Was just my 11 year old and I, very kid friendly, we both had a wonderful time :)
Very comfortable atmosphere, lots of seating available and the bar was a hop skip and a jump, can't beat that!
We just returned from a stay at The Del and unfortunately, we were very disappointed. They offered 2 star service at 5 star prices. Most of the amenities were closed, lots of construction and the staff was not eager to help resolve any issues. You can get much more bang for your buck at San Diego's top tier hotels who whose level of service will match the prices they are charging.
What a special place! Staying at the Del Coronado has been on my wish for many years, and for my birthday I finally fulfilled that wish. The lobby is full of old world charm and luxury. The room we were in was nicely appointed and featured a lovely decor. The hotel staff was overly accommodating and friendly, (with the exception of a snooty concierge desk). Other than that, the staff was great! We especially liked talking with the elevator operators. They had great stories to tell on our quick rides between floors and always had big smiles on their faces. While we were staying here we enjoyed days at the on-site beach and one of the pools. We felt so relaxed and peaceful while enjoying these amenities. We also had lunch at Sheerwater, one of the on-site restaurants. The food and the service was impeccable, (but not without a premium price). All in all we had an incredible time here and hope to return again to make more special memories soon.
This elegant hotel brings beach fun and luxury together. The hotel has a beach umbrella rental service that everyone can take advantage of. If you are passing through then make sure to park on the streets close by. Meters are. 25 cents per hour with a 2 hr maximum. The best part about the drive to the hotel is the famous Coronado bridge. What a thrill and for those daring enough try the far right lane.
Hotel was a bit aged, but regal inside the public areas and very comfortable in the rooms. We got the ocean view room directly looking over the beach, just wish we could have checked in earlier to enjoy the room. There were two pools, while the main pool had cabanas they were mostly occupied by kids. Not to worry, there was an adult only swimming pool as well. I also liked that the hotel had exercise events and movies on the beach. The best part was the hotel service. They were very accommodating and absolutely made sure our stay was amazing from beginning to end.
This place is amazing! the historic vibe of this hotel cant be beat! The location is amazing, right next to the beach. Some of the staff can be rude but I believe their rudeness is due to being under staffed. The hotel is usually at full capacity. Do not have any hopes of checking in early cause it probably wont happen. We did receive great customer service by some of the staff especially the wait staff. Zane was our server for the day bed beach rental and he provided excellent service! Would highly recommend! Bonfires on the beach was also a great experience.
Took the mermaid fitness class and it was FABULOUS. I highly recommend it! So fun. It is a bargain, too, if you're a local ($15). However, a huge negative is that there is not a place for people to shower or even change after class. We tried to go to the spa showers/locker room to rinse off and change (wanted to get the pool water and chemicals off) and the attendant rudely stopped us and said unless we were there for a spa treatment, we had to leave. If you're going to offer aquatic fitness classes, you need to provide facilities for your paying customers to change, at the very least.
A beautiful hotel listed on the U. S. National Register of Historic Places, as well as a national historical monument. He was the subject of the film, known in Russia as "Only Girls in Jazz". Everything here is perfect, and the rooms, and restaurants, and the Pacific beach of Coronado Island. Accordingly, the price category is high. At Christmas, the prices of rooms and bungalows soar to thousands of dollars.
Fantastic and typical California place.
Very nice hotel, though a bit dated in the style of decoration. Stores inside. Direct access to the beach and beautiful view. Terraces and bar.
Living it up at the Hotel California. Wonderful old world hotel with an excellent beach. Spend the $ and get the beach chairs to enjoy the waterfront & sunset. The waitresses will get you drinks 10x faster & deliver them to you. Sure beats the bar lines & you get the best view at the place.
Beautiful Sunset Hotel on the sea and rich seafood dinner.
Hotel Rooms are better than a cheap beach motel but they aren't luxury. The place is old and you can feel it. That said, the property is awesome. Very expensive. That may just be because of where it is. Food is either too fancy for my taste or it's just not good. I can't tell.
Historic hotel on Coronado island that is very luxurious. The view from the hotel and surrounding grounds is beautiful. Beach access is right outside the back of the hotel. A restaurant, bar, and cafe are all outside the back with beautiful views and good vibes but very pricey. Popular ice cream shop there as well.
Beautiful location, but it's extremely crowded and expensive. Parking alone will run you about $50, just to visit for a couple hours. I have seen many more stunning beaches, and interesting architectural locations. It was good to do it once. It might be good for a location event, but definitely consider how you will handle guest parking.
The famous Hotel del Coronado is a historic hotel, well-known from the Marilyn Monroe film “Some Like It Hot. ” You’ll find various homages to the film scattered throughout — with particular concentration in the gift shop. The hotel is very Californian in appearance, and richly appointed on the inside with gorgeous dark wood walls, crystal chandeliers, and beautiful flower arrangements. The courtyards are offer classic features including palm tree gardens and casual sitting areas. There are numerous shops and eateries at the hotel including several outdoor bars. You’ll also find gorgeous cottage style accommodations in addition to the main hotel. The hotel is located on the Silver Strand beach area and offers stunning views of the coast. This is a heavily touristed area, and you may find it crowded, but the hustle feels like part of the enjoyable atmosphere. I was only here for a day visit, but would definitely book a stay in the future. The hotel also offers haunted and historical tours. There is no fee to simply visit.
Missed visit! If you're going to have breakfast. Be patient you can take up to 40 min x a table while you can tour the hotel.
Very careful. It retains its old sense but it is very conserved. Very nice everything and excellent beach point.
Impressive Victorian architecture. Both the outside and the interior of the hotel are beautiful. It also has an extensive and very nice beach.
Its surroundings are full of shops, restaurants and good atmosphere.
It is an amazing hotel and also on a great beach. I think it's the largest wooden building in America. It also has shops and rent a car. I don't put 5 stars because I didn't stay there and I don't know how the rooms are and their price.
Very father I like the service, the lack that works there are very friendly and help you at all times, all very clean and various options to eat or just go for a drink, excellent to go to walk, chat, meetings etc.
A long trek from North County for my weekday breakfast business meeting. Ocean view from the restaurant terrace is a not so subtle reminder of why I live in SD and love the Del — now a Hilton property. The breakfast buffet was a good decision with all the standard fare, but I see the Sunday brunch now sets you back $98/pp — ouch! From past experience, it offers delicious choices — but still, ouch! Order it, and spend the rest of the afternoon walking it off on the Del's great white sand beach. If you happen to be mired in the east coast winter from hell that just won't quit and this sounds decadent, it surely is — book the trip!
Super place very expensive but worth it.
More historical than this? More Victorian? Nicer? and "Less American"? I do not think this is the place to tell the story, document and understand that you can not miss a day (and night if possible) here. Watch the inside parking lot, part of $30. Board parking right out there with paid machines (very low prices). Visitors entrance without any problems. A trip inside is worth the whole day. The bar is historic and is where the soldiers of the nearby military seat in the war came to drink (only to have alcohol license) and to bring the girls. Sunset not describable. Don't doubt it, you go point.
Beautiful, historic hotel in the beautiful setting of Coronado Island. The architecture is gorgeous. The hotel is set on a stunning beach, and is open to the public. We were touring the island, not staying at the hotel, but we felt very welcome. Parking is super expensive, but with a validated ticket and proof of having spent $50 at the hotel, you can park for $5 (not sure if that is per hour…). We found free parking on the street and walked to explore the environs of the hotel and the beach. It was time very well spent!
Nice place for an afternoon snack.
The hotel has a great history of Coronado. It is important for Visutarlo and if possible to eat or stay there.
I love this hotel. It has so much character to it, so many restaurants and amenities. The pool is nice, but the beach is great. There's a pizza restaurant that has pizza better than what you'll find in New York! Awesome labyrinth of shops on the lower level of the main building. Speaking of which, if you stay here, request the main building! Not only does it have soooo much character and history to it, but there's an awesome elevator operator who is so funny and nice. Overall awesome hotel!
Top notch Restaurants! Super Sea View!
While still maintaining the classic Victorian look, the hotel continues to maintain and update its facilities to continue to attract holiday-makers and convention tourists.
In 2003, the property was sold to the new owners who spent $10 million to improve 381 rooms in June 2005. In July 2005, a money was passed to build 37 villas and chalets and limited terms. They also received approval to build more than 205 new hotel rooms.
Amenities and activities of the HotelEditar the hotel has many activities for guests to enjoy the beach and swimming pool, sailing, surfing, cycling and golf. The hotel is also equipped with a fitness center with personal training services. There are also special activities for the children. Guests can also use the State-of-the-art spa and the Yamaguchi Salon. "Shops at the Del" has made the hotel a unique destination for shoppers, with a variety of shops and boutiques.
Recently, the hotel opened Beach Village at the Del. Review of Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection →
Hotel facilities can only be said to meet the standard of the general five-star, if the same enjoy super five-star treatment will be disappointed. But staying in the hotel itself is a beautiful beach and hotel feelings. As the world's first five-star, the hotel decoration almost with the modern not too much handover. After entering the hotel, in addition to the LCD screen in the foreground, the history of both the visual sense arises. Even the elevators are old fashioned cages, and it's fun to get into the rear of a caged bird. The sand in the sand is not pure white or yellow, but black sand mixed with white sand. On the beach side of the rock, you can sit quietly for a while. Look at the seagulls that keep flying and gliding, and occasionally one or two will stop at the beach, stop on the rocks, and watch the sea silently.
It is small, you can choose option of room with bathroom, do not change the towels unless you request it and only give you one, the door of the bathroom does not close and smells all the time to incense. It is an option if you want an affordable price in a central area.
This famous landmark hotel is just steps away from the beach, and it's only a few more minutes away from the little shops and store from the town center of Coronado. One of our favorite places to visit in San Diego. A very nice place to stay a night or two, and the architecture is fun to see as well. A lunch or dinner can be a nice, albeit a bit pricey, treat for the family.
Stayed here for meetings. Overall, a beautiful property and the food was excellent! Two meals were served on the Windsor lawn. The first at night with enough patio heaters to take off the chill. The second was lunch and what a location with a magnificent view of the Pacific ocean and the sound of waves crashing. If you get a chance, check out the Crown room. All wooden room for larger groups-an amazing structure given when it was built. Accommodations were very nice but being a very old hotel, the doorways don't accommodate taller folks by default. I took a direct hit. Heads up!
This hotel has been so well kept over the years. Absolutely gorgeous architecture! The shops inside are so adorable! We also really enjoyed the sunset bar which had great cocktails. The sand on the beach has mica in it so it glitters like gold. It's a must see if you're in San Diego!
Great history and impressive and very well preserved facilities, plus very good atmosphere in its terrace restaurant — bar.
"There's a thief. " Today we have the concierge's suitcase password lock was tried to open, one of the spare 500 dollars in a backpack missing one (the previous night to verify that the money is not less, found that the suitcase has been tried to open the traces after the inventory found less money). Everyone should be careful, good hotels may also have someone to steal things. Is currently communicating with the hotel, if the hotel has a positive response I will review.
Great place close to the water that offers a wonderful shopping experience and eateries. Great view and a historical place that truly captures the essence of Coronado Island. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the visual delight that is the Hotel Del Coronado during their Christmas season. Their lights are amazing and they provide an area for ice skating as well. The Del does not disappoint!
Hotel Del is an amazing destination. Great views, excellent service fantastic food. The only things that could be improved in my opinion is parking validation, with the high cost of good and drink (work it) I'd like to see parking with validation be free of charge. They currently charger a reasonable rate $5 per 3 hours with validation (spend $100+) and a without validation parking is ~$50. Under the new management there are some noticable changes that are less then spectacular.
Very nice place. Nice. The bar at the beach conveniently rates little in connection with the quality of service and the ingredients served. Dirty Menus and cocktails with alcohols or fruits of very questionable quality. To visit for the frame.
The Del will always be a sanctuary of fun. But new management has brought a subtle shift in customer service. For instance, we had to wait in line for over 45 minutes just to check in. The staff at the front desk was pleasant but stressed. Also our room bath had a sticky/dirty door. We also noticed less staff at the cottage bistro. And it goes without saying that the venerable Del is Not there place for an upside down Christmas tree. We wondered if the person with the idea for this atrocity was even familiar with the traditions of this establishment. And a final note, that many young people were staying at the hotel, which is wonderful. However, parties until early morning and running and screaming in the hallways are not a formula for adult recreation and rest. We will always come back here. We just hope the new Hilton management can get up to speed.
Great location. However be aware it’s not very exclusive. They let anybody off the street run through the place. So you’re competing for space with none hotel guests. And prices? Once you’re there they got you. $11 for a blue moon at the bar! Food is good, but then again pricey! Go for a walk up the street and get out of the hotel and save yourself some dough Fitness centers decent nice to have the beach right there. But again anybody will walk through the space that you’re paying big money room rates to stay at.
Definitely a place you can't miss, you will be allowed access to common areas, you don't have to be staying, the structure is amazing and the view to the magnificent sea, good place to hang out. Memorable.
Beautiful hotel that you can access even if you are not a guest! That's right you can shop, walk through it, have drinks, eat or go swim on the very nicely groomed beaches. Watch as they have professional sand castles building and other fun activities. It's all free too! I recommend parking on the south west side of the hotel if you can find a spot. There's a little beach entrance there and that way you don't have to pay for the hotel parking.
Completely overflowing, reckless use of a large compressor apparently to preserve a Eìsbahn that made sleep impossible at night. These are our negative experiences. The wonderful location, the unique architecture, the willingness to appeal on the next day to provide a quieter and otherwise more attractive room is also positive. So not all bad but also not all good.
You can visit the lobby and the adjoining beach. Impeccable Hotel for architecture and order. It ' also famous thanks to the movie with Marylin Monroe, someone likes hot. You will also find some photos at the shop and the history of the hotel.
"Do Not Love Emika", Santiago will go to one of the places, the United States and West Travel shuttle bus can find this place to take the guide very good his micro-letter is Seattle9
It is a magical place, where one feels that it is transported to another time. The view of the sea is spectacular just like the beach. And for those who enjoy the shows, because more than watching the jets of the U. S. Area force fly over the base of San Diego.
It really is a unique place.
Comfortable, conditioned, elegant rooms and excellent view. Adequate quality service.
An icon of the city. Beautiful.
Beautiful Hotel! Until just to get to know him! On the outside and its facilities! I recommend it widely.
Maryln Monroe is coming out of the elevator. Fantastic! Necessarily visit & stay.
In spite of not having stayed at the hotel and with the only fact of Nomas visiting it was a great experience. You feel the nostalgia and the vibe of your great time. Definitely recommended for if you don't even want to visit.
A great vacation spot. Right by the ocean. However you are smack between a air port and two military bases. One is for the air Force. The planes are constant and very loud. I stayed for 5 days and 4 nights, and had the worst insomnia of my life. The hotel is huge. It is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. They have shops, and they are high priced. There's plenty of places to shop and eat within walking distance for more reasonable prices. The trolley pick up is near by as well to take you off the island. They charge for parking at the hotel. Also they automatically include gratuity charges for everything. Even if you walk to the Starbucks and order it yourself. The room service is excellent, they don't forget a thing and think if anything you might've. The burgers at the hotel were the best thing I ate during my stay. They have artist that work with the sand, and a trained hawk at the hotel. Plenty of bike rentals available, you can even have a fire and roast marshmallows for an extra charge. Specialty shops are in the hotel for pets and clothes. The landscaping is really ridiculously amazing. If it wasn't for the planes it would have been perfect. The sand literally glitters.
The hotel is beautiful. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Angel, in room service, went above and beyond as did Meredith from the pool cabanas. However, be very careful of the pool man! The day before we left he had taken a script of mine to see if he can get it at a better price from his friend who supposedly owned a store and never returned it to me. I tried many times to call him to return it but he turned his phone off! Security was informed of this and to this day no one from the hotel has called me back with any information regarding my stolen script.
Great for Sunday brunch and not only, the hotel is famous for the passing of VIP years as Marilyn Monroe.
Hotel and surroundings very nice, reception poorly organized, which were completely overloaded and poorly organized. We had a check-in before 4pm and we should have just picked up the room bowl at 16:00 am, have had to stand 45 min.
My husband and I had a fabulous night at the hotel. We were there to celebrate his birthday and the employees went out of their way to make us feel special. They even sent us 2 cupcakes and a bottle of sparkling wine to our room. We had a beautiful, full ocean view room with a king bed. Definitely looking forward to our next stay at the Del.
Cheap prices and remarkable service. Little Organized.
I love to take out-of-town visitors to Coronado and always remember to include a trip to the Hotel Del. The beach is gorgeous, and everyone I take always loves the beach bar/restaurant. Prices at the beach bar are quite high ($18 for guacamole and chips, $27 for three fish tacos? ) for the food you get. It's good food, but not that good. So, I wouldn't recommend this place to locals looking for a standard place to grab tasty food, but would definitely recommend if your number one priority is to have that ocean view in a relaxed atmosphere. The view is spectacular, and the servers are always very friendly, though service can be pretty slow when they're busy, especially during the summer. I also love the direct beach access from the restaurant, as well as just walking the grounds of the hotel — the landscaping and buildings are gorgeous, with lots of great photo opportunities with friends and family. Do wish that the hotel would maintain the restrooms more effectively. They run out of paper products frequently and ventilation is needed. For my birthday, my boyfriend booked us a couples manicure at their nail salon, and it was such a fabulous experience! I loved the warm towel on our shoulders and they even brought us glasses of champagne. The room was quiet and pleasant and we loved the ladies who gave us our manicures. Overall, the Hotel Del is one of my go-to experiences when I want to pamper myself or my friends and family.
Such a beautiful hotel. The iconic Del is on the Registry of National Historic places. It's one of a kind and a place we should all appreciate and hope to stay at once in a lifetime. I really like the small homes on the beach called Beach Village. Those would be another bucket list type place to rest for a night. Don't miss your chance to see this amazing property.
A simply beautiful place on a dreamlike island! Just go and dream at the beautiful beach!
Beautiful and suggestive. Old structure but well maintained.
Very nice hotel directly built by the seaside in the year 1900, the setting is beautiful. On the other hand the prices are very high and there are a lot of people.
Historic Hotel in Coronado. Here they shot "someone likes hot" and has hosted several famous celebrities. Well worth a visit, even inside. I wouldn't sleep, though.
Dream Hotel in a fantastic location. Definitely worth a visit.
I stayed there in February 2017 with the family.
We had canceled a surf session that had been charged 380 dollars on our final invoice. At the time of the cheking out, the hostess had removed this amount.
The hotel rebilled it three weeks later when we were back in France. This is simply a scam: Service not performed but invoiced.
I don't usually leave negative comments on sites (see TripAdvisor) but there are limits.
I sent them an email asking to cancel this levy but no answer: in short, a scam.
Victorian architecture, it is the inspiration for Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (Orlando) and Disneyland Hotel (Paris).
A magical place!
It is a Hotel full of charm and history, built on the edge of the beach. It reminds me of the big hotels in Biarritz.
Once in the hotel there is no need to go anywhere else. Restaurant, bar with views, beaches, swimming pool, we have access to a delicate and charming world.
It's very romantic as a place.
This hotel is beautiful and set in an amazing beach front location. The shops are pleasant and well stocked with desirable merchandise and the restaurants offer a sophisticated beach like ambience. The food is unique, tasty, and well priced.
I really love this hotel, although I've never stayed overnight. It's a beautiful old hotel with an amazing beach front location. Easily one of the most recognizable hotels in the country. The hotel itself is filled with restaurants, boutique shops, a spa, pools and rentable beach covers; not to mention being surrounded by other restaurants and shops in Coronado. If you enjoy historic locations, this is a great place. Between Hotel dels history as a San Diego landmark, it's user in the movie Some Like It Hot, and the stories of it being haunted, you have a lot to go on.
Historic beach front hotel exceeded our expectations. Beautiful lobby with spacious rooms and hallways. It felt like we were stepping back into the 1920's. Plenty of on site dining options and an array of upscale stores on the basement level. Pools were large with a unique hot tub. Hotel staff were friendly and efficient. This hotel has lots of nooks and crannies to explore and spend your day in. It's also within walking distance from the islands main shopping and dining areas.
Me and my family stayed last weekend for 3 nights and all I have to say is, "Great customer service! " I have stayed at a lot of hotels, mostly 4 and 5 star, and this was the best customer service I have ever had. Everyone was so happy and accommodating. All the employee's seemed to really enjoy their job and where they are working. I am a business owner and we strive for excellence and good company moral; Hotel Del Coronado has definitely achieved that. I will definitely be staying there again and will highly recommend this place to all of my family and friends. We had a great time, their beach was immaculate, food was delicious, and I just can't say enough about the service. Thank you hotel Coronado for a great long weekend.
A real American Hotel.
Excellent views. Beach.
The atmosphere of the film "some like it hot" and filmed here.
I've been coming to San Diego almost every summer of my life and never without a stop at the del. It was always my dream to have my wedding there but I was unable to make it happen cause I had so much family traveling far already. My mother gave my husband and I a trip to the del for a week as a wedding gift to fulfill my lifelong fantasy of staying there. Everything was beautiful. The receptionist that checked us in gave us some complimentary drinks to kick off our honeymoon. Although I know the hotel and nothing was new to me, everything remains magical about this place. The long history is felt all around you and you feel that the employees really love working there. Andrew the elevator operator is a highlight of staying in the main building. The food is delicious, the cocktails are great and the staff is wonderful. Take a step back in time into a time when luxury really meant something. Thank you to the del for making my lifelong dreams be all that I thought they would be. I'll be back for an anniversary stay and will always stop by for at least a drink and soak up the beauty. The only minus point for me is that the breakfast offered is a buffet for $35. It is well worth the price but it would be nice to have a menu to order from as well if you want to eat there without having to eat so much. Buffets arent an everyday thing. The only way to order an item is through room service.
One of the worst hotels I have stayed in. It took three hours to get our luggage only to find that we were put in the wrong room. It then took another 5-6 hours to get extra towels and luggage racks. Everything is extremely overpriced — 35$ for a breakfast buffet with no other option to order from a menu and you have to pay 20$ per chair if you would like to use one on the beach and 25$ for an umbrella. The lady at the front desk misadvised me numerous times about different activities in the hotel and several phone calls to the front desk went unanswered. The nice restaurant is closed on Mondays, the night we wanted to go while we were only there for two nights. The hotel felt like a factory. Our poor weather did make the hotel less ideal although obviously not their fault. I would never return to and recommend this hotel.
Got to love The Del! Go back in time with a visit to this Victorian style hotel. The spa is top notch, the elevator has an attendant, and it is right on the beach. At Christmas time they have caroling, beautiful decorations, and ice skating. Walk the halls that some say are haunted to this day by the ghost of a young woman who died there.
I took my mother for her 93rd birthday to the Del and we had a joyous time. From the moment we arrived at valet parking to the wonderful surprises we received (I am not going to spoil it for anyone) the atmosphere, warm and welcoming staff and fantastic food made us decide that coming to the Del on mom's birthday will be our newest tradition. Thank you for a great experience.
I have only been home for a few days now and I already miss the Del, one of the best trips my family has ever been on and enjoyed every minute of our stay at this truly iconic hotel. I cant wait to come back for another stay from its breathtaking views to its pleasant staff and of course the warm southern California sun. This was truly a memory making trip for my family in which we will never forget.
The Hotel Del Coronado, outside San Diego and its historic look and the hotel grounds are impressive, well-manicured and beautiful!. But parking is tough since the Hotel Del Coronado is such a hot spot so its very hard to find parking here. Unless if you arrive really early or pay $28 for all day parking. I loved the old decor, old school layout of the shops below first level and the old oiled dark deep wood walls. The staff was generally helpful and the I have to say the beach was wide and huge with beautiful white sand and my experience overall was absolutely lovely. We loved being in this iconic hotel, with its layout and design from another era but extremely enjoyable today. The restaurants were expensive but very good. My Wife and I liked the endless shopping possibilities at the hotel and nearby the hotel, and the beach was clean and fun. One day we decided to take a bike ride around the island, to see various sights around the island. We loved it!. They have never disappointed us. It is great to wake up to the sound of the waves crashing onto the Beach sand and hearing all the birds and owls singing. We love the hotel rooms that are very nice and great size too. They really have beautiful luxury bathrooms We will be back. How could anyone not enjoy the beach front view from an iconic building? The hotel has bathrooms available for beach go-ers. Enjoy some chocolate or a scoop of ice cream located within the hotel while relaxing.
Had the Mothers Day Brunch and it was excellent. We were served by a guy named Reno. My 100 year old mother loved it. She had never had a raw oyster and thought they were "odd. " Grand kids loved the candy room and the adults the Mimosa. Expensive but worth it. Eat in the Crown Room.
We have been staying here on and off for the past 45 years. They have never disappointed us. It is great to wake up to the surf sound. They food is expensive but well worth it. Especially the Sunday Brunch. What a layout! We will be back.
I stayed at this hotel when I was younger. Everything is true. Lights would turn on and off. TV would turn on and off. Talking outside the room yet no one there. I even woke up in a place I did not fall asleep at. The hotel is said to be haunted by Kate Morgan who died in her room days after she checked in. Definitely would stay here again.
How could anyone not enjoy the beach front view from an iconic building? The hotel has bathrooms available for beach go-ers. Enjoy some chocolate or a scoop of ice cream located within the hotel while relaxing. Parking is a bit tough since the Hotel del Coronado is such a hot spot so try to find residential parking. You have the option to pay $28 for all day parking.
My family of 4 stayed for 5 nights in two adjacent rooms. We loved being in this iconic hotel, with its layout and design from another era but extremely enjoyable today. Our rooms were on the 4th floor looking west across the courtyard, so we got evening sun on the balcony and the room was private and quiet. The restaurants were expensive but very good; a few nights we walked down Orange Ave. To eat. I liked the shopping possibilities at the hotel, and the beach was clean and fun. One day we biked around the island, one day we rented a car at the hotel to drive up to La Jolla, and the other days we taxied to various sights. But the kids wanted a lot of beach and pool time. This hotel was so much more satisfying than the usual bland, sterile nowheresville chain hotel. This is a destination hotel: we loved it.
Just walked through it as I saw it off the beach. Beautiful grounds, beautiful hotel, well kept. Didn't stay, so can't comment on that. There are lots of helicopters and planes flying by quite frequently.
I'm so very sorry to write this review. I am a well-seasoned Canadian traveler and very much was looking forward to my stay here. Positives: the hotel grounds are impressive, well-manicured and beautiful Con: oh my, where to start. First off: the hotel is located near a naval base (sorry if this is incorrect I am not 100% familiar with the particulars of the US army) and helicopters fly over every 10-15 minutes causing a very loud noise. Obviously this is NOT the hotels fault, but something to be aware of. Second: our check-in time was between 2pm and 4pm and sadly our room wasn't ready until 4pm despite the fact that we had called earlier to say we would be arriving around noon. I realize as well, this may be the fault of the previous guests, but noted regardless. Our room was on the "first floor" and about 10 ft away from the main walkway in the area. People would stare at us on our deck and we would wave back. If you are comfortable with this, it is not necessarily a con. We are shy Canadians so this was quite awkward and really took away from the gorgeous view. Our room didn't have a corkscrew, strange for a 5-star hotel, nor wine glasses, or kettle. Also our room was directly located underneath the main restaurant and the children were playing, well, 3 ft from our room. Again, not the hotels fault but really took away from the experience. We dined at the patio grill of the hotel and paid $60.
It is very beautiful one day will be hosted in this magnificent hotel.
Have been at the Hotel many times with our guests who always want to go see it and the buffets are incredible, the beach is perfect, fantastic service, however it is haunted, so if you don't like ghosts don't go there. It is not the lady that bugs us, but a male who likes to walk through ya while you are walking down the long hallway to the beach. You cannot see him but boy you know he is there, kinda hard to explain. Loved Christmas at the hotel dinner.
I stopped in the Hotel Del Coronado, outside San Diego proper a while ago and its historic look and feel instantly made it one of my favorite hotels. I loved the old decor, old school layout of the shops below first level and the old oiled dark deep wood walls. The staff was generally helpful and the I have to say the beach was wide and huge with beautiful white sand and my experience overall was absolutely lovely.
So much fun to be had staying at this historic hotel! The beach, the island and navy soldiers running the beach! They will not tell you what one is the haunted room. But I am not sure that I want to know.
The hotel is simply stunning. I love the vintage vibe that you get when you walk through the doors of the Hotel Del. One my favorite things to do is to come and sit at the bar and listen to the great live music. Full of history and glamour, the Hotel Del is a San Diego staple. Parking can be expensive, but if you arrive early enough you might get lucky and nab a spot on the street.
All in all, I am extremely disappointed with the Hotel del Coronado. My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for a wedding — but decided in advance that if we enjoyed ourselves, we were going to come back for the week Christmas. I was really excited about the potential of coming back because I have heard that the ambiance that the hotel creates for the holidays is outstanding. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience and will likely never return. We're going to stick with our traditional Holiday resort — Terranea. A few of the things that impacted our experience: -Upon checking in, the room key did not work. We had to haul across the grounds back to the front desk (minor, I know — but it is really not a good way to set the stage for your stay). -The light fixtures in the bathroom were rusty and there was some type of brown residue splattered on the wallpaper. -The shower head didn't work, so I forcefully opted for a bath but there was no plug for the drain (I used a towel to plug it. Classy, I know). -We accidentally locked our key in the room late at night (stupid mistake). My boyfriend had to go to the front desk THREE times before they finally gave us a key that worked. -The neighbors were engaging in some type of drunken domestic dispute in the middle of the night (I felt like we were at a college party at a Holiday Inn). I called the front desk and it rang for 3 minutes before I finally gave up. Made for a sleepless night.

What a wonderful stay at the Hotel Del Coronado once again! Every staff person that we interacted with was great! Of course the beach and weather is awesome! A special thank you to the supervisor of the resort concierge & reservations to help make this visit so perfect for our anniversary trip! I have to give extra credit to those staff working the beach serving and setting up chairs and umbrellas. The weather may be fantastic but those responsibilities/jobs are labor intensive! Try walking in deep sand carrying wooden chairs and umbrellas back and forth all day. These guys are the best! Some of the friendliest and hardest working young people I have met in a long time. What a great trip!
