Great hotel, but lousy parking! Park on the streets surrounding hotel between 6p-8a for free, if you don’t want to pay $32/ overnight valet charge.

It’s sooo beautiful here. They staff really knows how to treat their customers. Just seen a married couple it was crazy cool.

Horrible experience here. Valet attendant took pictures of my teenage daughters with his personal cell phone. Front desk attendant allowing it to happen as he stood there with a smirk on his face and his rude attitude.

I just want to brag on our experience. I brought my wife in, for the third year in a row for surgery. All three years we have stayed here. While they are always great, this year was over the top. The staff is so great! Everyone’s just happy to help. One in particular, Eric. He was awesome and even followed up this morning to check and see how my wife’s surgery went! We will always come back! Thanks again!

I always look forward to our visits to the Tutwiler Hotel. So much history… beautiful and quiet rooms.

Great experience. Driving in I was greeted by a young man that was so helpful. The sales person was very accommodating. The front desk person was nice. My room was very clean. The Tutwiler is the place to be.

My husband and I stayed here while in town for a wedding. The staff were extremely rude on numerous occasions. To give you one example — we called to ask for a menu to order room service. The guy at the front desk proceeds to say “why can’t you just come down and get it” and then hangs up mid conversation. Customer service is on par with a motel 6 but for triple the price. Will not be staying here again.

Southern hospitality at its finest! Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, valet, was extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean, the beds comfy. Good breakfast, coffee accessible all day. Wonderful stay!

It was difficult to find. Passed by it 3 times before I found it. The staff was really nice. Valet staff were awesome! Free breakfast was standard but nice.

Rooms were excellent quality as was the restaurant. Got upgraded for free thanks to the very nice staff at the front desk. Beware of parking… It's only valet. There is limited parking on the street nearby.

The hotel is just gorgeous and the historical story is fantastic. The hotel crew are such stand up people from the valet to the cleaners up through the managers. We had a miss hap and the crew jump on it with out question. They completely took care of us and made us feel of high quality. Thank you so much with the stand up service.

We booked this as a nice overnight stay on our anniversary trip headed to New Orleans from SC. We arrived early (2 pm) and waited until almost 4 to get our room ready. There was a conference in town so there were a lot of us waiting.
Room was nice, we are used to timeshares so it was nice for the money we paid. We booked the king suite. Noticed the shower was not cleaned properly, however everything else was nicely cleaned. Parking is $27 a day or park for free after 4pm on the street. Was not risking it so we paid for the valet service. The hotel is beautiful and everyone is friendly. Breakfast was ok, had better in lower end hotels. We ordered dinner in (pizza), we we're too tired to walk to the hotel restaurant. We had a few drinks at the bar, they were ok. Not sure we will be in Birmingham anytime soon, but will consider the Tutwiler again.

My family and I stayed there and absolutely loved it. The room was spacious and clean, the staff was awesome! I can’t brag enough how good the food was at the Tutwiler Bar and Grill. Our dining experience was superb! I highly recommend the shrimp and grits, there by far the best I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to have another “getaway”!

Beautiful historic hotel, great service. Our room was quiet during the night. Breakfast was very good. The driving around the hotel is easily navigable. Recommended to anyone staying in downtown.

The location was good. It was beside a park. The restaurant in it had good food. Breakfast was ok. Rooms are clean and quiet. The hotel has that old Victorian charm/feeling to it. There is free parking after 5 on the side streets, but we did valet parking for $25/night. All in all, it was a good stay.

I just had the opportunity and pleasure of speaking with Bethany, who is manager at hotel. She was extremely gracious, kind, and professional. I had a major issue to arise causing conflict with my reservation and she was so helpful and understanding and assisted me with my issue. I am very appreciative of her kindness and it goes a long way. I will ensure the next time I visit the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area this hotel will definitely be my top choice for sure. This place is fancy! A little more expensive than what I typically like to pay but it’s close to everything in downtown. The hotel building itself is very interesting, I believe it’s a historic landmark?! So far everyone has been nice. Not super friendly but just doing their job. No mini fridge or microwave in room but there’s one in lobby.

Delicious Continental breakfast! Great variety. Beds are comfortable and valet is a plus (just a bit pricey). I just wish our room had a refrigerator. Also smells kind of off, but not too bad Overall, a fairly nice place with super friendly staff!

First off, It threw me off that this was not a Hampton but infact one of the curio collection hotels. When I arrived I was looking for a Hampton but the GPS insisted this was the location and it was the correct address. It's a large old school Brock hotel stuffed in with the rest of the high-rise buildings. Checking in can be a bit tricky, it's single file around to the awning to unload, once you're in, your committed. Parking is sparse, and best option is to go for the valet parking. Lobby is of an older generation of hotels, nice with a few sitting rooms off to the sides with fake fireplaces. The room was nice and we'll lit. The bathroom had been updated, you can tell it was a retrofit from a few years ago. The bed was a typical Hampton style and decently comfortable. My room had a desk and a couch, the layout was a little strange but worked and there was ample room to move around. The food situation is minimal in a close radius. On a side note, I went to Saul's Soul Kitchen and had an amazing meal, they had the best collards I have ever had. The breakfast at the hotel was more of a typical Hampton breakfast, no cooked to order plates.

The most amazing property! I travel frequently and always stay here when in the Birmingham area. The staff members all treat you as if you were the most important person in the world. The newly renovated bar and restaurant are fabulous, and Alan is still behind the bar… tell him I said hello!

Stayed a night here and it was great, Very comfortable beds, comfy room. The free coffee was great and the complimentary breakfast was very good, lots of choices. They have valet parking it was just a nice bonus cause the parking lot wasn't big. Highly recommend and would not hesitate to stay there again.

This hotel was wonderful. The service here is second to none. Beautiful building with sitting rooms that included fireplaces. I sware I sat there all day by the fire. Lots of marble and beautiful vintage pictures throughout the hotel. The bell hops were overly friendly and accommodating. Room was very comfortable. Bed slept great with fluffy pillows. Breakfast was served on the 8th floor and was by far the best I've ever had at any hotel. I've never had salsa served with my eggs! It was fine! Front desk, valet, bar and grill staff all very accommodating and friendly. This is the way service should be and the Tutwiler nailed it. We will be returning and recommending to our friends and family. Also, they offer a shuttle service in which we used and valet parking which was very convenient!

Staff are professional & friendly. Parking fee seemed high, but it is downtown. You can street park after business hours to save $. Rooms were very nice, spacious, tasteful decor. Bed was so COMFY!

We checked in and had a little problem with the room. Talked to reception and straight away resolved it very professionally. Couldn't be happier. Location is exceptional, hotel truly clean and staff very nice. Travelling with kids and 2 adults. Highly recommended it.

Check in was horrible due to the staff. The front desk lady seemed like she didn't want to work there and was not welcoming. The valet service was great and the rooms were fantastic. The old hotel was amazing to stay at.

Location. Location. Location! Awesome service. Front desk. Valets. Room attendants and breakfast attendants all were on point. We came for a holiday weekend getaway to visit the Civil Rights Institute and surrounding historical sights. We chose to walk and it was a beautiful day to do so. Birmingham has proven to be a historic jewel. My husband and I are already thinking of it as a future family reunion destination. We definitely will suggest the Hampton Inn as the lodging for the event! Thank you!

Stayed for 3 nights. Front desk clerk charged wrong credit card. And the cold water was very intermittent. 95% of the water out of tub and sink was borderline scalding. No mini fridge or microwave in room. No pool. Room was very spacious, beds comfy, nice atmosphere, great free breakfast from 6-10 every day.

Loved the location! Loved my room also! Breakfast gets a YES. I stayed july 17-18 to visit Civil Rights District. Staff was VERY nice. Customer service is everything to me. Walking distance from variety of restaurants. I really liked Johns Soul Food. I promise I will stay there again likely before school starts back! Les.

The common areas of this hotel are really quite beautiful, and they've done a great job with renovations in what is clearly an old building. The room was pretty typical of a Hampton Inn as was the breakfast. The shower head needs an update as well as the carpet in the room, but overall it was nice enough, specially for the deal I got on it. They offer valet parking for an outrageous price or you can park at a meter, but those are free on weekends so that's what we did. Hotel staff were friendly and would definitely stay again.

While the first room we were placed in was a little too humid for us they quickly moved us to a room that was very comfortable. The breakfast selection. In the morning was delicious and we were very happy with the waffle bar. Overall excellent service throughout our stay.

Service at the Tutwiler was tremendous. Right off the bat, they upgraded our room in celebration of my wife's birthday. When we reached that suite, we found a lovely sitting room, a well-appointed bedroom and a perfectly acceptable bathroom. Best of all, the room had a balcony overlooking Birmingham. The includes breakfast the next morning was standard hotel fare, but given that it was included, no complaints from me. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely patronize this establishment again.

Beautifully restored historic building, with lovely rooms and a great location! Walking distance to The Lyric Theatre, and surrounded by quaint antique shops to spend hours browsing local history.

Great location. Needs breakfast room service and there is a lot of disparity between room types. Some are big, some are small. It's a roll of the dice.

Honestly I've never written a review of a hotel. So you can imagine that, to do so now, my experience was either fantastic or horrible. Unfortunately, it was the latter. From the moment I arrived, my experience was subpar, especially considering how much the room was! It was pouring, the valet was rude — he didn't even open the door for me even though I was completely covered in bags. The front desk was rude (except when I left — — that guy was great). The room was super hot — they called maintenance twice and still never got it cooler over my three day stay. The whole experience plain sucked. Never again. I'd give 0 stars if I could.

We booked a block of rooms for our wedding guests at The Tutwiler. Patricia was easy to work with and responsive. When I called requesting a certain room she helped out, when we needed to expand the number of rooms to our block it was no problem. I was able to preview the room before booking and Patricia even extended our wedding block rate to us when we came in town for meetings with our various wedding vendors. The staff was helpful, friendly and attentive to our guests and needs the weekend of the wedding. It is a beautiful, historic hotel with a great location walking distance to restaurants, bars, parks and a short drive to all Birmingham has to offer.

We were in Birmingham for move in weekend at Samford University. This hotel is in downtown Birmingham, but is only about 15 minutes from Samford via the interstate. Our experience here was excellent. When we first arrived we were ready to pay the $22 per night valet parking, but when we asked about "unavailable" self-parking the valet kindly advised us we could park on the street for free since it was a weekend. The rest of our two night stay was just as great. Our room was clean and fresh, the breakfast service was excellent and included for free, and every encounter we had with the staff was not only professional, but caring. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Birmingham. We will certainly stay here when we return.

I want to thank the staff at the Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Downtown-Tutwiler. It was a hidden treasure of a stay in Birmingham. We booked on short notice and it was fantastic. The bar was great! The Breakfast was Great and the room and bed were equally awesome. We don't get to Birmingham much, but when we do, it was be at the Tutwiler. Thanks Krista for the recommendation. You can tell the staff loved their jobs. Always a smiling face and great attitude. Also Thanks To our bellman Keith, for helping us with all of our stuff. We do travel heavy.
