The stay was awesome! right next to the beach, great stuff (extremely friendly :D) and nice quite place to enjoy your holidays. Food here is Ok, depends on what you order. Pat Thai was great, but would generally eat out as there are plenty of good restaurants on the island.

Great value for money with some of the best snorkling on the island to be found right off the beach. Can feel isolated but there a few other restaurants to visit along the beach. This is a peaceful location. Not a place for large crowds.

We were there for three nights. It's absolute calm and not a TamTam. If you are looking for peace and quiet, the right place is in the right place. The rooms are very simple and the reception is also a simple counter. Breakfast is fine and you get fed up. Coffee, toast, fried egg and omlett, water, cornflakes and fresh fruit. Hot food such as sausages etc are also available.
Far around the hotel is not much. A two restaurants where you can eat very well. We did not use the hotel's own restaurant except at breakfast.
A service of 100 Bath or more is offered to get to the city or other beaches. Unconditionally pack mosquito spray.

The beautiful resort is located on Tanote Bay which is quite remortely located from the main party spots like Sairee beach. But for that bargain what you get is a private beach and a resort built within nature. The staff are friendly and resourceful. A word of caution if you plan on renting a scooter the roads to and from the resort are steep and dark at night. The resort arranges for transport at a nominal cost at sheduled times which is advised. The resort also has its own Scuba PADI courses. Breakfast is good with a decent buffet. Overall you would enjoy your stay at Montalay!

The place is wonderful! Quiet, calm, yet with a live coral reef. Keep in mind that it is not easy to get out of here, there are no shops, and you depend entirely on the hotel restaurant, although complaints it is not.
Breakfast is very good. The staff is great. There is a very decent pool.
The hotel room is not bad, but badly lacks shelves for things (at the entrance there is a closet, but there can only hang jackets).
The breakfast was good. The mattresses are normal.

Everything is good except, no scooter rental, no Wi-Fi or so little. But Hydillique frame!

Nice place. Nice room. Beach for mask and snorkel on top, fish a few meters from the edge. Nice pool all shaded. The only thing wrong with the staff. For the little story it is sitting for a cocktail at the pool it is still waiting.

A very nice resort, right by the sea. The bungalows are in green, it almost looks like the jungle. Price-performance is right, it's worth to come here.

Beautiful place to get relax and forget the rest of the world. Their have a taxi service to go and back to the city centre in a very good price.

Friendly staff, could do a better job about picking people up from the pier. Rooms are very clean and I would suggest people visiting in summer to get the room with AC. Beautiful location, can be tough to leave the area.

We stayed at Montalay resort Koh Tao for 7 days. It was the perfect holiday. It is located on a lovely beach. Fantastic snorkeling with many beautiful fish to spot. It was a very good resort to bring the kids along. Our 3 year old just loved the pool. There is a shallow side for small kiddos. Restaurant was good. Service was great and the staff were so very friendly. They treated our son like he was family. We stayed in the garden bungalows. They were quiet, clean and a good size. The bed could have been a tad softer but it didn't stop us from sleeping. We are very happy we spent our time there as our stay was affortable and very relaxing. Would recommend.

Unfortunately, a pure one through and through. Have stayed here 5 nights for a lot of money. The beach is partially cluttered.
The restaurant is (except breakfast) absolutely not recommended, the food and drinks too expensive for the quality which is really relatively poor. The service is always very unfriendly and is absolutely not helpful.
The main point of criticism is the in-house diving school. The supposed owner sits there day and night just before and looks spellbound in his cell phone. A hello is too much to ask. The two female employees prefer to make a phone call instead of borrowing something. Borrowed two times snorkel masks, both leaking. Once the strap was torn to the size adjustment.
Something so through and through unfriendly, as the staff here were, I have not yet come to Thailand.
The rooms in itself were relatively large, the bed was uncomfortable and has extremely geknarzt. At night you can hear all kinds of beasts screaming in Unmittlebarer near what awakens you again and again.
The Moskitplage here möchtr I mention Ganicht first, anyway my body despite mosquito spray and — net covered with stitches No recommendation for this, get you something cheaper where else.

A primal hotel with an appealing ambience in a very quiet area. Absolute highlight is the beach in fantastic scenery with coral reef. Deduction is available for the somewhat poor workmanship here and there.

Nice hotel — location is awesome for snorkelling! Madras is not so good — too hard. Besides that — wonderful hotel with a staff that's awesome in a paradise scenery.

Nice rooms at good prices. The food is unfortunately very adapted and not comparable with typical Thai food but still tasty. The whole resort is very quiet, so if you are looking for more relaxation than partying, this is the place.

Hygiene was expandable. No scooter rental. Loud guests. Otherwise beautiful beach, good breakfast. We felt comfortable.

The place is great for sunbathing and relaxing. The staff was very friendly and helped us with organizing or travel back to Bangkok. They even organized a transfer from and to the pier (taxis are usually quite expensive on Koh Tao). It had only some minor issues: Bungalows are a bit old fashioned (80s style), beach was a little dirty (be aware of broken glass! ).

We were unlucky with the weather not uncommon for end of november but we felt that the staff could have been a lot more accomodating. The resort is the other side of the island and you have to take their taxis in to the pier or other beaches etc. If you don't go their times they charge almost double the taxi fare. If you can rent a bike do but in town the one we were recommended by the reception has many reviews online for people getting scammed. Food and drink isn't cheap and not amazing but if you don't pay for your expensive taxi you have no choice to way there and the staff are quite uncaring. Location on the beach is great but not rare for Koh Tao. The diving was a great experience my boyfriend did his open water and I did my refresher course as it had been a few years since my last dive. Would recommend to stay somewhere else on the other side of the island unless you're looking for a more isolated quite place just don't expect service.

Limited menu but that is the only down fall. Efficient staff, spectacular views, amazing snorkelling right off the beach. Highly recommended.

Rooms we're very clean and handsome decorated. Helpful and welcoming staff. The only hanficap was that during the whole stay the pool was fixed with heavy mashine noise so that we had to go to another beach spot.

You will snorkel your ass of, have Incredible nice rooms and super Service. The only 'disadvantage' is that you have to deal with a lot of germans ;). If you want to change money or use an atm you have to go to the pier. You can go by taxi or renting a scooter (2 min walk from hotel). Official taxi to the pier and back is ridicolous expensive. The montalay resort has no computer at the reception (in case you have to print something or whatever), there are possibilities at the pier. Make sure you jumped off the big rock at the montalay beach, its worth it!

This hotel is really comfortable with a very helpful staff that can arrange from pick ups to ferry tickets back to mainland. I chose a room with Fan because I'm familiar with the islands and is not necesary to have an A/C running is fresh and breezy enough. The hotel is enclosed in Tanote Bay that gives you spectacular sunrise and sunset. The beach of the Hotel is of coral and you can spot lots of fishes. You can rent snorkeling gear at the hotel. The hotel provides an schedule for transportation to the pier and pick ups as well if you are going for diving the hotel has their own dive shop and unfortunately due my short visit I couldn't try but they also offer yoga classes. Great choice of hotel if you are looking to rest and enjoy this quiet and spectacular bay.

Montalay is in a cove all by itself. The beach is very coral-ly though, so you'll need rubber footwear. Also, be aware that Montalay is in a VERY isolated area. The ride from the ferry pier is 15 minutes, but it's up and down a steep mountain road. It would most likely take more than an hour to walk the whole stretch on foot, so it's not easy to access the main town area. There isn't really a way to get a taxi out, so you have to follow the resort taxi schedule which goes to the pier 4 times a day.

Quiet place, we stayed in an ECO bungalow, hot shower but shared bathroom, nice deal on booking which brought the price down, possibility to get a free stay with diving courses. The bay is one of the best on he island, fat from the bars but you can just rent a scooter. Expensive to get there by taxi (+-600 thb) try to get a lift from the resort if you book in advance I think they can arrange pick up at the pier. Location is amazing and their food is really good.

This is a quiet get away retreat, or flashpacker resort. I stayed in fan cooled bungalow for 600B in June. The food was good but pricier than normal areas. The beach area is good with a huge rock formation to snorkel around. Lots of wildlife, at dusk lots of mosquitoes, use DEET. Very comfortable.

Great hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The coral reef is close by. Good snorkeling. The restaurant is delicious and inexpensive. There is a swimming pool.

We came to this resort 3rd time now and love it. Great for snorkeling although 1 time out of three water wasn't very clear due to storm. Good food with reasonable prices. They don't pickup from pier after 5pm and offered free transport back. We reduced taxi price from 500 bt to 400 bt.

Really nice rooms and the staff were really great people! The only downside is that the sand was a bit rough with a lot of rocks, hard to walk on with bare feet. Also we came to find that the water on the east side of the island was often rough, not ideal for snorkelling. Gorgeous area though!

Friendly staff, excellent accommodation (with kettle & free tea & coffee in the rooms, even the cheapest), and the shared bathroom is only shared between two rooms. Amazing food, strong Wi-Fi and a beautiful beach & pool. A little quiet for my liking, but perfect for my partner. Recommended!

Food is very good and not expensive imho. Far away from everything but good place for relaxing. Beach has corals maybe too much. Have to be very careful when go swimming. Plenty of fish and corals to see when snorkeling. Stayed 2 nights.

No 3 star value. Breakfast ok. The house reef makes up for Everything. Staff very early very loud. Dangerous Directions. Very hilly, very washed out and sandy. For Mopeds not to recommend.

Hotel removed and difficult to access, so perfect for the quiet! Very nice Server! The beach is a bit dirty, even cleaned up the sea brings back some grime night: — (perfect for snorkeling! ) Great food! Great view! Super price! No regrets.

Got our scuba certifications here while on vacation. The dives were amazing and the instructors were very helpful. Would recommend here due to the smaller class size vs going to banns.

Just a paradise for divers only minus point, a bit secluded. Eat top bungalow top top service.

Stayed here for 7 nights. Very good service and prices, views are good but it's on a very steep hill so if you have difficult walking then think twice before you book. Also the approach road is very difficult to drive up, our taxi was a 4 x 4 and while that could climb the very rough road it dose leave you kinda in there hands. One point about the taxi they use a jeep style 4 x 4 and you sit on the back and on a rough road being bounced about you could fall off. But being fair all in all we have both loved the hotel and the staff have been excellent and very helpful. They work very hard to keep the everything clean and tidy. Our room had air con, flat screen TV and complimentary tea and coffee. The beach is right on top of the hotel. Hotel has a 3 star rating but it's way better than that.
