Rafiki Backpackers & Guesthouse

We stayed at the backbackers for 2 weeks while we volunteered at a local school.
The room was spacious with comfortable beds and great hot showers.
The breakfast and cafe served really nice local dishes with good portions too.
The roof terrace had amazing views of Kilimanjaro. We could have stayed there all day.
The best bit? The staff.
The reception staff, Digna and Helen were amazing — they were friendly and super helpful. Francis in the bar was always so happy and is a great cook too.

I stayed at Rafiki Backpackers twice while on my trip to Tanzania — first in a shared room and then in a private room. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, as a solo traveler, it’s very important for me to feel safe and that my things are safe and I never had a question about that during either of my stays. The staff was always so friendly and accommodating and the meals always so good.
It’s fairly centrally located in Moshi for any day trips you want to take or to prepare for going up Kilimanjaro; you need a car to get most places but the staff can help you arrange that if you don’t have a separate tour company you prefer.

Incredibly kind staff, not in the centre, but close enough to it. Rooms are clean and the restaurant outside is really a stunning place.

This is great discovery. Enjoyed 2 nites, Base for kili. Room bunks and in-room bathroom were clean; The staff very accommodating. The cafe chefs can cooked to your requirement snd were friendly. Loved the healthy breakfast. Calvin.

I was so surprised about how amazing it was there for that good price. It is such a beautiful Hostel, with a balcony to view the Kilimanjaro and not far from the town. Also the stuff was so welcoming and lovely. We even stayed a day longer abd I will come back with my Family in July. I recommend this hostel a lot!

We booked our Kilimanjaro trek through Rafiki Backpackers (Viva Africa Tours) and so stayed here before and after our trek. The ladies at reception are so kind and helpful with everything you need and the value for money is absolutely superb, with free breakfast included in price!
On an evening, their restaurant next door offers meals for a cheap price which are fantastic!

My mom and I had a wonderful time at Rafiki! Everyone who works there is so friendly! The kitchen chefs really know how to cook! The "pole pole" vibe is something we really appreciated.
10/10 for hospitality!
I am for sure coming back when I am visiting Tanzania in the future!

Good hostel for backpackers with friendly staff.
The rooms were clean and nice. Breakfast was cooked fresh, also they have a restaurant just next door which was awesome.
If you want to hike the kili they also have an inhouse safari company that offers good services for a good price.

The place was very nice, it was clean, there were mosquito nets and fans in the rooms. They had Wi-Fi and free breakfast. The area was nice and quiet and safe. There is hot water in the showers. The staff is very nice and very helpful and they speak english. The breakfast was a little too small and the place is a bit far from the city.

Great spot out of town, good value, and friendly staff. Did the job, we loved the rooftop bar with the view of Kilimanjaro. Only issues were that we were promised a takeaway breakfast for our last morning which we were never given, the towels were very poor quality, and the location is not ideal — we had to get a bhajaji/tuktuk to and from town. But at 3000 shillings per 5 min journey, it was fine for a few days.

We stayed here because of the tours we booked with them. I believe they delivered well on them. The hostel itself is good. They have a good kitchen which you can use or you can order some simple dishes which you can order.
