Please please please be careful of booking this place if you have to check in late at night. I booked this place through Agoda and wrote down that I would arrive between 1-2am, as that's the only train that was available from Taipei during Chinese New Year. My reservation was accepted. When I arrived, the woman told me that dorm room check ins have to happen before 11pm, and this is posted on Agoda, so my reservation was cancelled. After trying to explain to her that I wrote down my arrival time and my reservation was still accepted, and I didn't have any place to stay for the night, she still insisted on arguing that the policy is that no check ins can happen after 11pm and this is on their Agoda posting. After checking later, what is on Agoda is "Reception open until 11:00pm" which is a bit different. The whole situation was really handled poorly on the part of the hostel, and resulted in me having no place to stay at 1am.
Stayed in their mixed dormitory. Not too fancy but comfortable enough to give you a good sleep. Great spot in Hualien if your aim is to have easy access on everything.

Very nice place to stay when you are in a budget. The dorms have an ac and are spacious. You have to do your own bed & if you need a towel, you have to rent it. The staff are very friendly & make very good tea.
