Now before you read this review, I’ll put my cards on the table and tell you I’ve got a massive thing for retro interior decorating, and the Hotel La Collina to me is like slipping in warm eclectic bath. A place where time seems to have stood still.
Before you start reconsidering your booking, yes it comes with all modern amenities we’ve come to expect from a hotel these days, like a flat screen TV for instance. But it also boasts a rather impressive 70’s decor that is really well preserved and lovingly maintained. Now I totally acknowledge a dark green tiled bathroom with a bright orange toiletseat is not exactly everyone’s idea of the hight of sophistication, (to be honest it is not even mine. ) But! It is definitely unforgettable amongst all the other hotels you stay in these days that all sort of look the same… Now it is not perfect mind you, it could use a little more styling to really bring it into that time warp New York Times must see category (I personally missed some macrame art and west-German lava pottery, but that’s me. ) still a total gem!
Now I hear you thinking: ‘enough about the decor already! ’ Okay, so let’s talk about the wonderful service. The staff was friendly, and very helpful when it turned out the village had snowed in. They turned on the spa for us early and allowed us to use it (already checked-out) while we waited for the roads to open… and it was lovely!
