Ruuk Village Hotel

Nice eco resort close to the kite lagoon. The basic cabanas are spacious and clean. Meals are delicious and eaten at a large wooden table where everyone meets. There is also a chill-out area with hammocks and bean bags.

Spent a few days here to relax and adjust to the time zone before an action packed tour of Sri Lanka. We didn't do kite surfing, but we did paddle board, go on Safari, go to the beach and chill in the hammocks. The best thing about the resort is the food and the sweet hard-working people. They make one meal for everyone and you find out what you're getting when it's on your plate. They accommodated my food allergies well and we're super clean and tasty. I feel like we got a good taste of what Sri Lankan food is like. I was a bit worried about the Eco friendly outdoor bathrooms etc but it was totally fine. They only run the generator from 630-1030pm so if you want to be constantly connected to devices this could bother you, or you could take the opportunity to relax. My only complaint was that I was hot at night time with no fan and no a. C. I could see this place being ideal if you're a kite surfer or don't want to do much at all. I don't recommend the Safari in Willpatu as we barely saw any animals, nor did any of the other guests we passed in other Safari vehicles.

Our favourite place in Sri Lanka. Paradise! Wow, where do I start? Firstly, the location is awesome. Right on the lagoon and a 5min boat ride to the kite surfing spot. Coconut trees are everywhere and the surroundings are very untouched. Secondly the people were brilliant. The staff were so friendly and really cared about our needs. They were also super flexible and tried to accomodate us in every way they could. The grounds were also very cool. Very authentic and quirky, we didnt really find anything else in Sri Lanka quite like it.   Also they really focus on being sustainable as much as possible but manage to not let you lose any luxury. The Wi-Fi was good and the Cabanas were very pretty and clean as well. Each one had its own private outdoor shower. The food was exceptional. The best we had in Sri Lanka! So generous, wholesome and delicious! I learned alot of the culture through their food here. The kite surfing was also amazing! The wind was consistant everyday. I did a beginner course and my boyfriend did a refresher. The instructors were brilliant and super patient with us. We were up and riding on our second and third days already. I definetly didnt think we'd be able to pick it up so quickly. Even if you  are not doing a course they watch out for you and will rescue you if necessary. Nice to know, especially if your starting out. They also offer massages, morning yoga and have cool chill spots to read and relax. I highly recommend this place.

I stayed at Ruuk Village and took kite surfing classes at the kite school there. It s nicely located in front of a dreamy lagoon. The waters and winds are just perfect, Daniel and his team are fun, friendly, patient and competent, which would make up for a great kite surfing experience and a great stay at Ruuk Village.

Very nice place to unwind, the cabanas are absolutely fine, the food is typical of the country and is always freshly prepared, tastes excellent. The kite instructors are all very competent and the material to borrow is new and in excellent condition. The whole team at Ruuk is very helpful but never intrusive or over-motivated. The lagoon is ideal for kiting, whether beginner or crack. People who want to party every night are wrong there and will be disappointed.

What a lovely place! Stayed for 7 days and had a real blast. It’s a perfect destination if you’re looking for a quite and remote place, especially if you are a kitesurfing lover. The lagoon and constant wind makes it a good spot for kitesurfing. The kitesurfing school is really good: great teacher (Vytis) and good renting equipment. We took a full-board package and I would recommend it to all since Kalpitiya village doesn’t have much to offer in terms of restaurants and the ladies in the kitchen cook amazing food. I would describe it as simple, healthy, authentic and delicious. The place also attracts laid-back clients from all over Europe. Everyone was very open minded and social. In the evenings we used to stay all together having a cold beer and a good chat. It really felt like a big hippie family. The staff are very friendly and caring. The manager, Gamma, will make all your wishes become true. He also was very helpful when we needed to get to our next destination.

Ruuk Village is a great place to chill, kite surf, explore and meet other travellers. The staff are like friends with lots of local knowledge!

Very nice Project next to the kite lagoon. You live in the nature while being served local food clocked fresh every time. Staff is helpful and courteous. Kite surf lessons where conducted in a professional manner. I’ll be back, when I have the chance.

We had the best weekend getaway at Ruuk Village. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The food was really tasty too, especially the lovely lunch made by Anti. Definitely recommending this little spot of heaven to everyone!

Great place, amazing people. It was our first stop in Sri Lanka and the staff made us feel at home right away. The food was first class. If you're looking for a traditionally Sri Lankan getaway, definitely bunker down in one of the traditional huts.

Such a beautiful place is in a great location. I had wonderful time at there. It is one of the peaceful and nice place I have ever seen. Great place to spend vacation. Really loved it and will definitely be back.

We are Lisa and Sören, a German Couple living in Switzerland. We write our Reviews always taking into account local Standards. We had a wonderful (! ) Time in the Ruuk Village and would come back at any time and the loving "village, " each of our friends fully recommend! Here, once again, a big thank you to the whole Team, we welcome and us for 4 days with a local, delicious food and the best possible in the case of the daily planning supports has cooked. Our arrival at Ruuk Village went smoothly, thanks to the pre-sent information. Was really included everything that it needed to prepare for, as well as lots of interesting additional information to Ruuk Village and Kalpitya. The Village is 5 minutes by Tuk-Tuk or 20 minutes by foot from the "city centre" Kalpitya. Ruuk Village is not only a place to stay, but an experience and a place of the lives. The accommodations are simple, clean and with many small Details of living. The furniture and the Material for the huts are from the Region. As well as the Ruuk Village Team supports the people in the area. For this, we have accepted the one or the other swab in the small things. Finally, it is not in a European 5***** Resort. But in a place of the lives of the employees and the nature.

I´ve really enjoyed this real "Eco-Lodge"! You can relax very easily and exploit yourself at the same day. The "eco-concept" works quite well. You have fresh local food, solar electricity and they work closely with the locals — and they always work on it! Go ahead!

Very friendly, welcoming staff and generally warm atmosphere. Located right at the lagoon you get access to excellent flatwater perfect for learning. The kiteschool uses the lastest gear from Core and the instructors are really enthusiastic.

Very cosy place and a VW van to sleep in! The kite instructor Daniel is excellent!
