A pleasant stay overshadowed by an incident of subtle racism by one of the night managers. We were also forced to wait for over an hour for our room despite us checking in later than usual (we alerted them to this prior to arrival) we had to wait over an hour until after 9'clock at night only to be given the wrong rooms (we had to wait for over an hour because "a big group had recently checked out and the rooms weren't ready") The racist incident situation is too subtle and complex to explain here, but it involved a certain night manager blatantly passing on anti-oppressor quotes to a paying customer (hand-to-hand) after we had some very minor complaints about the hotel and the inconvenience caused by our room switching right at 9:30 PM. When we suggested some form of recourse after the inconvenience to said night manager, he laughed in our faces. Totally un-called for and any person with such a mindset should not bring these things to paying customers, but I suppose its just a condition of the new South Africa. Luckily the incompetence and arrogant nature of the night manager in question was remedied by a reimbursement after talking to the day manager as well as the general manager who were very nice and attentive, all the staff were friendly with the exception of that single night manager. The kitchen and restaurant staff are also really friendly. The other managers also mentioned the night manager in question had a certain history of previous complaints. The hotel itself is nice, and everything apart from what I mentioned above was in order. It's very unfortunate that the proud name of Protea has to be drawn down with such a complex and subtle case of insincerity. If the Protea group would only be so courteous as to liberate this night manager from his oppressive patrons they would be doing the future recipient of his racist front a great favour.
