If you are heading to Singapore for a weekend retreat; I would choose a hotel that's close enough to the action but still nicely tucked slightly further away. St Regis in Singapore is located at the tail end of Orchard Road. Which means it's just a short walk away but not right in the main heart. It makes for a leisurely stroll. The service at St Regis is usually very top-notch and this is no exception. The concierge greeted me by name when I stepped out of the taxi (I suspect by glancing at my luggage tag), and by the time I reach the reception to check-in, the staff also greeted me by my name and checked me in promptly. In the room; the amenities are excellent and one of the best I've encountered in Singapore. There's a Bose system with a CD of good music already provided. The bed is incredibly comfortable. The room itself is very spacious and we booked probably the smallest rooms. What I love most is the bathroom with it's free standing bathtub; with a TV screen to the mirror that tunes separately from the main TV in the living room. Perfect. Wifi access is provided for free, which I can't say enough that every hotel should do so. The speed is excellent. There isn't much to fault, but for both stays I've been here the length has been too short to really enjoy all to offer. The spa is something interesting to explore if wasn't for the time, and the restaurants are pretty good — notably for afternoon tea. Interesting nuggets about the hotel: The hotel itself hosts one of the largest private collection of art in Singapore and you can request for an art tour of the collections featuring very interesting pieces including some from asian artists. The only downside people may say about this hotel located at Orchard Road is that it is not outside all the major malls, but I do see it as a plus point (both for tranquility and my wallet's sake). But it is really close and easily accessible via taxi. A tip though, if you are taking a taxi and heading to Ion Orchard or Wisma Atria etc, ask to stop at Scotts Plaza, or Paragon which will avoid having to take a huge detour navigating the one-way streets saving both time and fare.
