I’m not sure why it’s rated so low. I had a great room with all the amenities I needed, and the staff were all really kind and helpful. Food from the restaurant is great, there’s airport transfers (though you need to pay 55 WST). I’d definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting.

We had our very first birthday dinner party at Lava Hotel in their ballroom, and the experience was absolutely amazing! The service was perfect 👌, the food was spot on, and everything was so well organized from start to finish.

Great location but dirty black oily floor, food were dry, if not soggy, and barely have taste compared to other hotel while staying in Samoa. Attentive with daily cleaning but floor always black (tried spraying water on floor then wiped it then dirt is unbelievable). Otherwise great place to relax outside the bar with the pool, aside from very slow service.

I booked a room at Lava for 2 nights at the last minute after my Papa’s funeral, and I want to commend the staff—from reception to the waiters—for their kindness and respect. I’ve stayed at other hotels in Samoa, but I’ve never been greeted with the level of love and care we experienced here.
After laying a loved one to rest, the last thing you need overseas is indifference. At Lava, I felt genuinely respected and cared for—something I don’t often experience in Samoa, sadly. The staff truly made our stay special.
We also really enjoyed the fiafia night—it’s by far the best in Samoa! The pool layout right by the restaurant is beautiful, and the rooms were spotless. I also want to mention how much I loved the koko alaisa—it was delicious and easily my favourite dish. A special thank you as well to the lovely maid who came to clean after the funeral when I requested—it meant so much.

We've just spend 13 days here at the Lava Hotel with friends. The rooms were clean and somewhat spacious but the cleaners were always very accommodating. Overall the staff were lovely and were always very pleasant to deal with particularly the front house staff. Our accommodation costs included breakfast which was the only downfall as every only 1 or 2 dishes were changed but the rest were the same. The brekky staff lacked initiative and customers service here as a couple of mornings there were guests standing waiting on plates and cutleries and having telling staff to refill food on the buffet. For a business Hotel these are the details that and services that the ground staff should be all over it.
We also had the building alarm activated so loud one morning around 5am. The communication by staff here was terrible as guests were not directly or well informed as to Fire procedures.
We would stay here again but it wouldn't be for as long as what we did on this trip.

We just completed our 7 night stay at the Lava Hotel, this is our first time in Samoa. When we arrived we were greeted with welcome drinks and were a bit early for our rooms but didn’t have to wait long as we allowed to check in a bit early. The Hotel is only about 7 years olds so everything is near new clean and tidy. The rooms are set out well with modern tvs plus most channels. The AFL was on free TV so I was happy. The Hotel is located close to town so easy to walk in or 5 tala for a taxi. Our last night was a Thursday so the dancing and fire show was on with bbq buffet night. We spent time dining and drinking at lots of the other hotels and resorts, each have there good and bad points. We did like the resort on the island for the beach and coral access but a bit too busy for us. The Lava has very experienced staff plus it’s a little bit more peaceful to sit and relax. The pool was perfect to cool down and chill on the lounge chairs. Happy to recommend, cheers from Ballarat Australia.

Fairly priced for what you get and close to the city centre. We spent 2 nights there, they have free parking available and included breakfast. Service was ok. Prices for food and beverages were good, and we ate relatively well there. The hotel and the room felt relatively new, and it was clean. Be aware that they charge a 5% fee if you pay by card, but that's pretty much the same everywhere in Samoa.

I didn’t stay here but ate at the restaurant a few times. It’s a classy — in all the right ways — place. Good service, chilled vibes, quiet. The food is good and well priced.

We booked 6 nights in the Lava Hotel. I am already rating the 5 stars in the 1st day. The people are so friendly and welcoming. Make sure to be here on Friday evening to see an amazing life musician and singer. I loved this guy.

Recently attended the fiafia night. It was the best by far that we have been to in samoa!
The host was great, not self absorbed and taking away from the real show. He did at one point sing, but had a great voice and allowed the dancers time to swap outfits.
Started on time at a reasonable hour.
Location allows for open air and breeze to flow through unlike other places.
There aren’t tables and seats stacked together where you can barely move or see the performance either.
Dances and fire dances were great.
Food for the buffet had a basic variety but still enough to enjoy, and was delicious. Help yourself and no rations.
Only thing negative would be lack of clearing empty plates and drinks off the table, this could be seen as an interruption to the customers whilst watching the entertainment.
10/10 Would recommend to attend this show. Wouldn’t waste time with others.

Nice location and very friendly staff. The food was lovely even if the egg was overcooked on the Ceasar salad. The signature cocktail is refreshing and not overly sweet, thank goodness. Hubby had the nachos, and I had the lemon pepper chicken with vege and mash, which we both enjoyed.

Functional.
Good location, small room with a comfy bed and effective air conditioner.
Very little shade around the pool.
Pleasant dining area although the flies were a real nuisance.
The staff were GREAT.
Worst aspect was very limited menu with no vegetarian options. Literally had salad leaves, garlic, bread, and chips for supper. Still hungry 😔

Came for lunch and enjoyed a pleasant meal.
Ordered the beef burger (under the egg) and fish and chips. Food portion was greater than Taumeasina and reasonably priced.
Service was subpar however good service etiquette from our waiter.

Didn't stay at Lava but went there twice for meals at the 190.5
The restaurant and bar is open and has a good vibe. There is a guy that comes to sing live on Friday nights as well and is pretty good.
The menu is not exhausting but covers all that you may wish to try and the cocktails are nice to — the signature 190.5 cocktail comes in a jug! Must try if you like cocktails!
The place is also open on Sundays so good to check out as most other places are closed in Apia on Sunday.

The bed was so comfortable and nicely airconditioned room. It was very welcoming after a long day of conference. The staff was wonderful too. Very kind and accommodating. Something important for me when visiting a new country is security and the premises felt very secure with the lovely security guards around.
