Made reservations to stay at this hotel for 5 days due to a death in the family. Sad to say it's been the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, couldn't believe it cost $150.00 a night. First of all the room looked nothing like the pictures on their website. Room was very old and dirty the AC vents were covered in mildew, the furniture in the room looked like something you pick up from a dump site (all scratched, pieces of the wood chipped off, stained etc). Towels that are issued to you look like they've been was 1000 times. Curtains in room had paint splattered on them. There was not a chair or a desk in the room, no microwave or refrigerator or safe etc. TV didn't work, there employee tried fixing it twice but was not able to, no one mentioned their phones didn't work either. We took the stairs because we were scared to get stuck in elevator, which was very old and not leveled. Needless to say we checked out on the 3rd day we couldn't take it anymore. Worse experience ever… I will be posting pictures I took if I don't get credit on my CC for the two we didn't stay. Gave it 1 star because one of receptionist was very nice.

Ms. Beverly, Alfonso, Roman, Michael, (MOCHA Cafe & BISTRO in the hotel) Candy, Ricardo (thanks for the food), Eric, Noemi, Mundi, Esteban went beyond their Responsibilities. I was in a pickle and they all helped me. These are the people MELIÂ has to keep. They made me feel safe, secure, I was stranded in Ponce without a place to stay. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. If I can go again I would be honored to see all of them again.

Very elegant lobby and pool. Hotel rooms are old but nicely updated. Very good air conditioning. Nice pool and restuarant area. Very polite employees. Right in the middle of the Plaza.

This is a terrible hotel. We got a motel quality for a hotel price. The room was awful. The box spring of the beds were exposed, the TV was those old fashioned ones and the door had a hinge broken so it was difficult to open. I would not recommend this to anyone.

There are No good rooms despite the remodeling of the lobby. It had to Be made Lysol.

Nothing but a bad experience. Booked through Expedia, got to the hotel and found it was under renovation. Checked in, got in an elevator that hasn't been certified in the last 10 years and went to a room that was dirty and tiny. Rode the death trap right back down to the lobby and checked back out. Had also told the staff when I checked in that I needed to cancel the reservation as I was there for work and my job had moved me a ways away. No manager was on duty to do that. Then they charged my credit card for a full month's stay. Says right in the agreement that last minute cancellations are subject to a fee equivalent to one night's stay plus applicable taxes. Had to call my credit card to dispute the charge.

Hotel is awesome. Staff is amazing. Right next to the square where there is always something going on. Best place to stay in Ponce.

I liked this place. Like a lot of Puerto Rico six months post Maria still some rough edges but step by step they are on the mend. Their kitchen is next on the list and watching the lobby evolve in its detail was short story in craftsmanship. Several sources of good food around the adjacent plaza. No worries on the parking.

This hotel is a work of art. It's undergoing renovations and the rooms were a little outdates, which is why I gave it 3 stars. However, the staff are friendly, you are in the center of culture in Poncé and there is a mural in the rear parking lot. When you visit by Google maps, take the first right after the píncho (kebab) stand, the small street there leads to the parking in the rear of the hotel and the main lobby.

No Stars for this Hotel. I booked a room for one week, and at the same time my boss booked me another hotel. I called the next day to cancel (within 48 hours of the booking date) and was told that they would not be charging my card and not to worry about the reservation. About 4 days later my card was charged for the full 1 week stay. I have been calling to have this charge reimbursed and each time they tell me someone will call me back, but they never do. Today I called and the lady outright hung up on me. I would not recommend pre-booking into this hotel and if this is the way they do customer service, I think I would avoid this hotel at all costs. UPDATE: The manager has still not called me back. I am still fighting for my reimbursement and have been told that manager Galdys Carriro will call me back, but it is now 5 days without a return phone call from her.

If I could give a negative star I would. Rooms outdated, "restaurant" closed early not following the schedule from the front desk. Front desk was not able to provide me a receipt because the printer was not working. Asked to email me a copy been waiting for a week and a half. I call every day and they promise they are going to send it. And nothing happens, over charged me a night. This hotel is a not even equivalent to the super 8.

Service was not friendly, they were remodeling at the time and by 6am it was noisy and dusty. The staff would only give turn down service if requested and bedding was not as clean as it should be.

The best service from Maria at the front desk. Candy and Jenifer was great at the bar next to the pool. Rooms where well clean and in good shape. Perfectly located in Ponce downtown.

Rooms are dirty, they do not change the sheets often. Wear flip flops when showering. Internet does not work and food is terrible. Forget about having a good night sleep, it is always loud outside and every morning at 4:30am there is a loud dump truck outside your window.

I would like to thank the owner's and all of their staff for all of their hard work and dedication in keeping all of My crew comfortable during our stay. We are here helping in the recovery efforts after hurricane Maria and they have gone above and beyond to bring home (Louisiana) to Puerto Rico. Hotel Melia has not only become home, but also a part of the family. From the bottom of the heart thank you for all the support y'all have given us while we are here, and all of the humanitarian efforts you provide to your country.

This review may be a bit biased because of my situation, but hear me out. I happen to be a Puerto Rico local and recently a victim of the terrible hurricane Maria. The whole island of Puerto Rico went dark. There was no water. Communications were zero as well. Food was scarce. It was hell. I decided to adventure around my city to see the destruction and suddenly, like a shining beacon in the middle of the storm there it was: the Hotel Melia in Ponce was open and operating! The location is the best in Ponce. If you are going to visit Puerto Rico, I recommend you to visit Ponce, the largest city outside the San Juan area. Ponce has an historical heritage and you will enjoy Spanish era buildings and a more relaxed vibe than the Metro area. Among those buildings is the Hotel Melia (the real one, not the Gran Melia impostor). This is the oldest operating hotel in Puerto Rico since 1895. The hotel has suffered many renovations during the years, but at the same time it retains its classic charm. Modern additions include a roof modern bar, a small but nice pool and some cool top of the line Convention rooms. During my visit, the hotel was being remodeled — — and partly destroyed by the hurricane, so the lobby area was a mess full of broken chairs, wood planks, etc. They tried to cover everything as best as they could with plastic to keep the areas safe. I was greeted by Desire and Gladys.

It was definitely adequate. Ponce itself is kind of a run down city facing tough times, but the hotel staff were wonderful, the coffee was great, the pool was refreshing and it wasn't the worst hotel out there. While they could use updated beds and electrical work, the hotel is only a part of the adventure.

WARNING! DO NOT BOOK HERE! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Came for a wedding and the venue booked 2 other events that overlapped with one another. Here is the list of things that went wrong. Hotel Parking: The parking for the guests and visitors is poorly managed with no communication between the employees once they need to switch shifts. Some guests leave the car keys and others don't causing conflicts and having the need to have the guests move their cases for other to leave. So it's a half assed valet parking with only 1 valet at a time. Staff was rude and seemed to disregard concerns that was brought up until you get rude and loud then they want to be the victim which brings me to the next point. Staff: The coordination between management and upper management is sub-par at best. One manager will say one thing and say "yes, we'll make it happen" then the upper management comes and says no and your stuck with it. They might try to accommodate you but the rooms itself leave you with much to desire. Rooms: As you can see in these pictures the rooms are dirty, not well kept and is falling apart. Who would want to spend money to stay at a hotel looking like this? It is in the center of Ponce where tourism is high, this hotel has a lot of history to it so you would think they would want to keep things looking like a 5 star hotel and not some dive you drive into for $20 a night.

Small quaint hotel, build in 1915 and it's kept its roots. Feels like a B&B. Located in the town plaza and in walking distance of many attractions. The pool is a good size. Staff is friendly and rooms are clean/homely. Would stay again for the peaceful environment.

The staff at Hotel Melia are fantastic. They will try to help you out however they can. The building is older but very interesting. Overall I highly recommend it.

I think they could certainly take advantage of this hotel a historical location as well the centric location in the middle of downtown Ponce, but sadly they do not. The way to get around at the hotel was difficult enough with the weird room numbers but the staff seen to be very uncoordinated. The Bar/Restaurant in the top floor did offer a view and a spot that could have been awesome if it were better keep and maintain. I am a local birding tour guide and my problem started with a wrong reservation where two of my clients were sharing a room but not a bed, and yes they gave me all rooms with one bed. The only solution was to add a cot to the already small rooms. I decided to give my room to one of my client and had to stay an hour away at a friend place to come back really early on the morning next day. In the morning we went up to where the breakfast was supposed to be (the bar again) and we were received by not so friendly staff getting stuff ready and when one of my clients started serving coffee to himself he asked one of her if that (pointing at a teapot thing) was the milk, she reply: “yes that’s the milk for a group that you are not part off”. We immediately took off and had breakfast somewhere else. I really feel sad for the reasons I mentioned at the beginning, this could be a really cool place, but with this experience and as a tour guide I won’t bring any of my clients here.  

It is a Hotel with a spectacular architectural building. You need some improvements. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very central for those who want to know the Stately City.

I reserved the room with my CC, paid for the reservation in cash and charged the deposit to my husband's CC. Both of our cards had holds placed on them for $150 and only $70 was returned to each. I called after to dispute the charges and the accounting department was always in a meeting and never returned my calls despite several messages. The Wi-Fi didn't work inside the room and the power went out for several hours right as we were preparing to go to my husband's grandmother's funeral. If anything, only a $50 upgrade fee was supposed to be charged to ONE of my credit cards even though one of the employees told us that upgrade was going to be complimentary for putting us in the wrong room to begin with. The room was outdated, we had so many issues and we paid close to $300 for a two night stay before taking into account the money that wasn't returned to us. Avoid this place, the "free drinks" they give you? Make sure you make it up to the bar an hour before closing time because they were closed 30mins before their posted time. The point is, this place is outdated, the Wi-Fi connectivity doesn't work inside the bedrooms and hopefully you at least have electricity during your stay there. Oh and make sure to dispute any charges before you leave because you'll never hear from these people again.

It is Vintage but too often crosses the VERY THICK LINE between vintage and dingy or unkempt. They are renovating so you might get lucky but I'd not do it again. Upon arriving first room was filthy and extra small, front staff was accommodating though and moved us to a clean room with clean towels. Cleaning staff failed to respond to door hanger twice… It has some nice touches but the dirty carpet at certain parts killed it for me.

It's very vintage which is cool but I didn't enjoy anything else. My room was incredibly small and cramped and uncomfortable and the hotel doesn't have many things for the guests. It's overpriced for what it is, they should remodel all rooms and have more options for guests to do in the hotel.

Good old fashion Hotel. Not much luxury but very good service.

If your looking for a luxurious stay, this is not the place. Now, if you're looking for a place with history, this is the place to stay. The hotel itself is an antique. Beds were decent, but all the rooms are different; some have plasma tv, some don't. The bathrooms are oddly built, but if your looking for a place to stay, and all you want is complementary water, bed and air conditioning, this is the place for you.

Old-fashioned hotel with tiny rooms. No room service or even an iron. No coffee in rooms. Check in service is slow and the room key didn't work at first. Rooms were clean.

Located in downtown Ponce, or city center. Hotel is an antique in itself. Elevator is rickety, recommend using the stairs if you don't have luggage. Most of the rooms are old and from 90s. A few of the renovated room are more $, but beautifully done. Would recommend this for less than $100/n, wanted to try the Casino and Hotel across the square. Cons: Dirty bathroom. Mildew in bathroom. On our first night, only 2 bath towels (no bath mat, hand towels, or wash cloths). Only one bar of soap (for both hand and body). Only shampoo and conditioner — — the bare minimum. They offer a budget room option, which was about $78/night (in October) which was VERY dated and in need of repairs… the duvet was torn and room tiny. Looked like a room from a murder motel or hostel, we turned around immediately and asked for a better room. $98/night for renovated room with balcony facing the street. Small bathroom but beautifully done. The bathroom was a bit dirty though, and mildew in the shower itself. Comfortable bed and HBO on the TV. Beware of opening the sliding door… a ton of mosquitoes came into the room and we were bitten within minutes of walking inside. Deposit charged up front $100 — they hold it on your account, and is refunded when you check out. $6/day for self parking in the lot behind the hotel. Give you a drink coupon for 2 and coffee coupon for 2 complimentary drinks. The have a cafe and cocktail lounge that charges reasonable prices. And tiny pool we didn't use.

Liked? nothing. The website images are totally deceiving. The hotel is extremely deteriorated, the room was about the size of the king size bed. Power went out and they have no backup genertor. We got a room with only one towel, and when we asked the housekeeping gentleman he said they won't have any immediately because there was no power to clean or dry them. SERIOUSLY! The bedroom wall paper was peeling. Felt a strong smell like that of a car exhaust, probably from the parking lot. There was an event at the rooftop until past 1am, the music and DJ were so loud it was impossible to sleep and it kept waking our 6 month old baby. Terrible experience. This place needs MAJOR renovations and a new policy on noise after hours.

Do not have good cleaning. The pool area is only open until 6:00 pm In have no entertainment in the hotel and the treatment is not very polite.

It is a hotel with excellent location for the tourists. Friendly staff. But if you buy the reservation with breakfast tries to q you get the coupons at the time of entry.

It's great! The rooms are nice and the beds very comfy. The staff is super nice and will help you with everything you need. The Panoramic Sky Lounge is a great place to hang out with friends, it's on the fifth floor. The elevators are tiny so unless you're carrying luggage I recomend you take the stairs. Parking over night has a $6 fee and the showers are comfortable, which is nice for the price. You have the "Museo de Bombas" right in front of it, ice cream, the Plaza. Just get out there and explore the area! "Ponce is Ponce and the rest is parking" PRican saying. Lol.

New era and new management. The New Restaurant is spectacular and the food and coffee at Mocha are delicious. Recomended if you want to experience downtown Ponce Puerto Rico. It is near everything.

As a travel Agent: Excellent hotel where you are treated like family. The staff accommodates your needs and their coffee is fantastic. It's gorgeous in the lobby but the rooms can use an update as far as blankets and a splash of color. The pool has a mini waterfall making it a bit different. Good location in the center of Ponce and close to the Museum and Attractions. Free Wi-Fi for guests. I found the hotel comfortable but in need of color to the rooms.

Old world elegance, but a bit faded from past glories. Convenient to Ponce Centro, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

The treatment is excellent care to good service.

Great facilities. Beautiful rooms.
