Jaca Hostel Porto da Cruz

What a lovely place this! Very quickly the staff makes you feel at home, and the common space is always lively to share adventures with fellow travellers.
Beds are comfy, kitchen is well equipped and the showers are great! You can rent some surfboards or join some other activities the hostel has partnered with.
It's with a full heart I've left this place, but will make sure to come back if I ever visit the island again.

Stayed at this hostel for 5 days and it felt very homely. Everyone was very friendly and Iulian (hostel volunteer) was in charge whilst I was there as the owners were on holidays. He was a very genuine guy and always partook in conversations around the hostel making the overall experience memorable. I would highly recommend staying here as a solo traveller and a lot of others are in the same boat and it attracts a nice crowd.

Had a wonderful time staying at Jaca Hostel. The vibes are chill and the people are incredibly friendly and easy going. Was planning to stay for two nights, but decided very quickly to come back for another three nights. Def recommend stopping by here on your travels through Madeira!

I had an amazing time at Jacca Hostel in Porto da Cruz! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at home thanks to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Kevin and Victoria are doing an incredible job creating such a great vibe and organizing fun activities that make it easy to meet people and enjoy the island together.
The hostel has a really special energy. Relaxed, social, and genuine. It honestly felt more like a little community than just a place to stay. I’m so grateful for the experience and the memories I made here. I would absolutely recommend Jacca Hostel to anyone visiting Madeira, and I already hope to come back someday! 🦀

As a female solo traveler, I had a wonderful time at Jaca Hostel in Porto da Cruz and would definitely recommend it! The atmosphere felt very warm and community-like, and I met many interesting people during my stay. The check-in was fast and easy with Kevin who showed me around the facilities and was very helpful, including giving me advice on where to park my scooter for free.
The shared kitchen was fully equipped and convenient for preparing meals. The beer on tap was genuinely really good.
The location is great, not far from several hiking trails and a good base for exploring Madeira.
My extra Madeira recommendation: watch the sunset at Pico do Arieiro. It was one of the highlights of my trip :)

I had such a wonderful time at Jaca Hostel in Porto da Cruz. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel incredibly welcome, they’re friendly, helpful, and genuinely care about their guests.
The atmosphere is relaxed, social, and super positive. It’s really easy to meet other travelers and the whole place is very clean, cozy, and thoughtfully designed.
The location is perfect, close to the ocean and surrounded by beautiful scenery, an ideal base to explore Madeira.
I would 100% stay here again. Highly recommended!

Oh how much I love (d) this place! My plan was to travel to spend some time alone, but I realized very quickly in the hostel, that the only thing I need is the company of great people! And you‘ll find them at the Jaca Hostel :) ) a big thanks to Lewis and Kevin, who both made feel so welcome and as a part of the hostel family! The room was perfect and the whole house in general was so so pretty! I quickly found the feeling of being at home on the other side of the planet, so big thanks to the Jaca team :) )

Then you should definitely spend your time at Jaca Hostel. Whether you’re a solo traveler or visiting in a group, this hostel is perfect for everyone.
For 12 nights, I was lucky enough to call this place my home – and it truly felt like one. I met so many lovely, interesting people, enjoyed great food during the pizza and burger nights, caught some good waves at the nearby beach, and will definitely come back again.
I went there as a solo traveler (my first time! ) and wasn’t alone for more than an hour the whole time. The hostel is designed for social interaction, and the hosts, Rosa and Kevin, are both incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome from the very first second.
I stayed in the beautiful attic with six other people, but you still have your privacy thanks to the curtains. At first, I wasn’t quite sure about that setup, but it turned out to be no problem at all. Nearly everyone was respectful in the early mornings and tried to stay quiet. You have your own locker and even the option to do laundry.
The hostel is cleaned every day, so it’s always very tidy. Although there are “only” two bathrooms, it’s really not an issue – I never had to wait. And for showering, there’s also an outdoor shower available.

Very friendly manager, fab atmosphere, get hostel for mixing and making friends. Enjoyed my night there. Perfect for anyone wanting to go or watch surfing 🌊

We didn’t stay there, but late on a Monday with the whole town shut down, they said they had just enough space and food and without a reservation cooked us burgers. Delicious curry fries and a perfectly medium cook on the burgs. Cheap beer, great staff, beautiful girls, beautiful scenes, 10/10 would recommend.

The communication with this hostel left me feeling a bit bleh. All of the flights to Funchal were cancelled and I wasn’t able to get to the island for my stay. This is completely out of anyone’s control and I was advised that I would not be able to receive a refund for any of my four nights stay. Fair enough. Nature sometimes intervenes. My main issue is that they double charged me and I have still not received the extra $374 that they took out of my account nearly a week ago (I was double charged). I respect their firm priorities and processes for their business, I just wish the same respect was given in return. The money is on its way, it was just a bit of extra stress to have to find new accomodation with $374 less in my account. Surely they could have refunded one night due to the double charge on their end. Also the paragraph about market research that they sent in response was not needed while I was stranded haha. I’m sure it’s a great place but just be prepared if you expect prompt/ human to human communication in times of trouble.

It's honestly the most beautiful and incredible hostel I’ve ever stayed in, and it will be hard to find a better one!

I spent only a night here & it’s now in top list of my 3-most favorite hostels in Europe! They provide all kind of services, burger night, surfing and yoga classes, with each needing reservation, though! Loved this hostel for its kind staff, cleanliness, and superb location! 😍

Very friendly. Easy to mingle. Private room for first 2 nights was lovely. The views from the room are stunning and just a 2 minute walk to the beach.
Last 2 nights in the shared attic space which I loved. Mattresses very comfy and own curtains to maintain privacy.
Marta was a very helpful and friendly volunteer host :)

We were here on a Monday and were triggered by their BurgerMonday offer, so we went in and were surprised by their hospitality and friendliness. The staff was really amazing and professional as well. The burgers were simply great and came along with a craft beer, which was very tasty too. That’s a real recommendation when you are in Porto Cruz on a Monday.
The hostel itself is located between the two recommended surf spots „Praia da Maiata“ and „Praia da Alagoa and right beside the „Engenhos do Norte“ distillery. So remember, first going to surf and drink the excellent Poncha in the hostel afterwards.

We stepped in by accident because the signs for BurgerMonday were catching us: home made, freshly grilled over the fireplace.
The burger was amazing: fresh, tasty, hot, perfectly flame grilled.
The team was diligent, professional and charming.
