We had a great holiday in Portugal, which was made even more memorable whilst staying at Tapada dos Machados. Sandra and Paulo are the perfect hosts who became very good friends. The accommodation and location is fantastic – peaceful and beautiful. We drove on the national roads and found the accommodation easily. The apartment is very clean and has a view out to the swimming pool and the orange groves beyond. As well as a pool there is a BBQ and picnic area and hammocks to get stuck in! the kitchen facilities are very good which we used to make our meals almost every day. The surrounding land has orange, avocado, apple, fig, papaya and olive trees and they also grow strawberries, melons and fresh herbs (I’m sure I have forgotten something! ). We could help ourselves to the oranges and fruits and had an endless supply of fresh juice to keep us hydrated in the hot weather.
Sandra and Paulo have excellent knowledge on the best places to eat and visit and where to buy local produce. Their knowledge proved very valuable, as each of the places we visited did not disappoint. Breakfast was provided and we had a selection of fresh fruits, bread, jams, cheese, tea, coffee and the highlight, Sandra’s home made delicious cakes! She made orange cake, banana cake and my favourite, cinnamon cake. The apartment was cleaned everyday and Sandra and Sonia are very meticulous ensuring the apartment is spotless.
