Bohol Hammock Hostel

I absolutely loved my stay here and will return. If you are ok with basic dorms then this hostel is definitely worth a visit. Juan was the most incredible host and tour guide, I instantly felt so welcomed and at home. The family dinners are a great way to chat with other guests and the free breakfast was delicious. Safe to say this was one of my favourite hostels I have stayed in, the atmosphere and service was 10/10.
Side note: the hostel also doubles as an animal sanctuary for local strays, so there are many cute and friendly cats and dogs around.

Such an amazing hostel! The people working there are so kind and chill, the animals roaming around are super cute, and the breakfast and family dinner are the best! It’s really nice to get to know people and just hang around together :) The location is far from the main touristy area (Panglao) but it’s super close to the Chocolate Hills and a bunch of waterfalls + it’s actually nicer there! Definitely recommend 🤩

I loved Bohol Hammock Hostel! The most relaxing and chilled place to hang out after some hectic travel days. The common area has lots of hammocks to relax in, and the veggie family dinner is delicious! I did a cooking class and received a little booklet to take away with me to cook back at home. Renee is the most kind hearted soul, who can help with any issues you have in the hostel! 10/10 recommend staying here in Bohol if you’re looking for a relaxing, quiet and remote place to chill.

My favorite hostel during my stay in the Philippines. Perfect place to enjoy the nature of Bohol and connect with other people because it's far from the tourist crowds and yet right next to Chocolate Hills. I booked two nights and I wished I could have stayed more. Renee is such a lovely host.

The hostel is right near the Chocolate Hills. The bungalow style accommodation was awesome, and the family dinners and breakfasts were delicious. Plenty of tours available to cover all you want to do on the island. The staff were super helpful and the atmosphere was very social.

Unfortunately, my experience at this hostel was quite negative.
First of all, there is a serious issue with the location. To get from Tarsier Sanctuary to the hostel, I had to change three different buses and spent around two hours just waiting for buses. I waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for one bus, around 30 minutes for another, and still had to wait for the last one as well. All of the buses were extremely crowded; if I had been carrying my large backpack with me, it would have been impossible to get on.
The distance is only 37 km, yet the journey took more than three hours in total. After such a long and exhausting trip, I finally arrived at the hostel.
I was aware that this is a “hammock hostel” and that sleeping is outdoors. However, the fact that there were no blankets available at all was a major drawback. Since we are in the Philippines, I only had light, summer clothing with me, which significantly affected my comfort.
The most disturbing part happened 1.5–2 hours after check-in, when the hostel owner came to me and claimed that I was not happy with my place. In reality, I was simply tired and wanted to rest. Despite this, she repeatedly insisted that I change places. Even after I clearly said, “Please leave me alone, I just want to rest, ” she did not end the conversation.
As a result, my reservation was canceled in the middle of the night while I was already inside, because she was worried that I might leave a negative review.

It's such a great place.
It's located in the middle of the island near chocolate hill so can use it as a hub for day trips.
The people who work here have such a big heart for animals and also are supporting their community however they can (hiring single mothers from the area)

Had a really nice stay at this hostel. Very well priced. Got a private room for less than €14 a night. The woman who runs this hostel is honestly a saint. She's runs it as an animal sanctuary aswell. She brings in stray cats and dogs and spends lots of money on bringing them back to good health. It's located in the middle of the island so I found it all lot easier to get around. It's also beside chocolate hills which is a must see. Best hostel I've been to in the Philippines so far!

I absolutely loved my stay at Bohol Hammock Hostel. I stayed in the open dorm style room which was a mattress on the floor with a bug net surrounding. It was surprisingly very comfortable and a great sleep. Renae and her family are incredible. There are so many cats, dogs and chickens around the farm.
I originally planned to stay 3 nights, but I extended to 4 nights plus one more family style dinner. The dinners were delicious and a great way to get to know your roommates. They were vegan friendly which was a huge plus.
I spent most of my time relaxing in the hammocks. The Wi-Fi was fast and good for me for working online.
The roosters were quite loud but I was able to drown them out with listening to white noise while I fell asleep. Definitely bring an eye mask and ear plug or head phones. The community and staff made up for the noise ten-fold.
I hope everyone gets the chance to stay in Batuan and visit Bohol Hammock Hostel.

My fiancé and I stayed at Bohol Hammock Hostel for two nights, and we were more than happy to have had this experience. From the very first moment, we felt incredibly welcome. The family who runs the hostel is truly something special — such kind, genuine people. We immediately felt a deep connection with them, and their warmth made our stay unforgettable.
Unfortunately, we were only in Bohol for four days, and we instantly regretted not staying longer after experiencing their amazing hospitality. This place truly feels like a home away from home.
A huge bonus for us was the 18 adorable cats — including kittens — and the sweetest dogs. As animal lovers, this was absolute paradise for us and made our hearts so happy.
The accommodation is very clean and has a beautiful, natural vibe that fits perfectly with the surroundings. The food was also absolutely delicious and prepared with so much care.
If we ever return to Bohol, there is no doubt that we would stay here again. We are incredibly grateful for this wonderful experience and can recommend Bohol Hammock Hostel with all our hearts. 💛🐾

We had such a great stay at Hammock Hostel. There were so many activities to do and it was very easy to meet people at the family dinners and breakfasts. The vegetarian food was delicious.

My stay at the Hammock Hostel was wonderful. The staff was very wellcomming and they took good care of me. I did their Countrysid tuktuk tour and the one to the Alicia Park and both were amazing.

This hostel brings together genuine people and is always full of love. I’m so thankful for all the memories I’ve shared and for the staff that were caring and hospitable. I would take a trip out to Bohol just to stay here again. This place reminds you of why you started traveling in the first place.
Ps the best cooking class I’ve taken in South east Asia.

We loved it here so much that we found it so hard to leave! The hostel is not only beautiful, but truly felt like home. By far our favourite hostel we’ve been to and every single moment was such a joy. We loved spending time with Renee, her family and all of her loving animals! We highly recommend the countryside tour and the cooking class! They were also extremely accomodating when it rained, allowing us to make the most of our time here in Bohol. Finally, the free breakfasts and the family dinners were so delicious, they really felt like you were being welcomed into their family.

It was the best hostel I have been since I arrived on the Philippines. A beautiful vibe, beautiful people, nice service, best food I had on the Philippines. You feel connected to the nature. Thanks for having us! All the best.

Hammock Hostel was definitely my favorite hostel since six month travelling. The location and nature around is very beautiful. The big area of the hostel is very clean and comfortable. The daily vegetarian family dinner is so delicious and also very good to connect with other travelers. They also offer a lot of activities. I stayed there for more than a week. And the best of the hostel is the staff — they are so lovely. Highly recommended!

I can’t wait to come back here next time! I truly enjoyed my stay and would have definitely stayed longer if time had allowed. The location, activities and the food – both breakfast and the family dinners – were perfect every time and slightly different each evening. Jhaneth and the whole team take care of the hostel and the guests with all their heart. Be sure to ask about the karaoke machine! :)
