The photos of this place don’t do it justice—it’s pure paradise. The panoramic views from the top-floor suite make you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden oasis. We never wanted to leave. Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom and a wrap-around terrace offering sweeping views of the Caribbean and the surrounding jungle. There wasn’t a house in sight—just lush greenery, Mamey Island, and the Caribbean. In the mornings, we were even greeted by tamarin monkeys, and we could hear howler monkeys every day. The property was teeming with butterflies and birds. Right below, the mangroves beckon for kayaking, or you can hire a captain for $30 per person for the day to take you on a boat tour around various islands, including Mamey Island, Isla Grande, and Monkey Island, where you can spot spider monkeys.
Fabienne and Franck are very friendly. The place is easy to find on the gravel road towards Cacique.
While making the réservation I had issues with the description of the rooms which does not match the number of travellers. Family room is not accessible to 4 persons and Double room can be booked for 4 persons.
The pool area, the rooms and the view are great.
The differentiating asset are the animals around the property and especially the monkeys shouting at sunrise and sunset.
Breakfast is great and served by the pool.
Frank can arrange for you a tour on the same day: we enjoyed the day tour by boat in the mangrove and the islands. Starting point is 400 m from the house walking along the road.
Although close to Portobelo, Cacique is different with a more remote feeling.

I booked a stay at Hotel Vista Caribe for a girls’ weekend and am so happy I did! The hotel owners are charming, kind, and accommodating. They recommended excellent restaurants for us to try, arranged a boat for us so we could visit the neighboring islands for a beach day, and prepared fabulous breakfasts and a fish dinner for us on our return. The hotel is tucked away on a hill and was quiet, clean, and comfortable, and our room had a lovely ocean view. The pool is great, and the entire hotel is surrounded by jungle and fruit trees. We saw a sloth, toucans, and monkeys all from the pool deck! I highly recommend this little gem of a hotel.
