We had a very nice stay at Dalen Hotel. The hotel is really beautiful and something you should experience at least once.
We brought our dog with us, and that was no problem at all. The service in general was good, and everyone was friendly and welcoming.
The breakfast was very good with a nice selection of fresh food, and everything tasted great. It was a perfect start to the day. There are also many nice hiking trails around the hotel, and the trails are very well marked, which made it easy to explore the area.
All in all, we had a great stay and would happily come back again.
We had high expectations given the hotel’s unique setting and reputation, but unfortunately the experience did not live up to them.
The stay was marked by lack of coordination during the visit, and several practical issues (including lunch availability, sauna access, and unclear breakfast times). Dinner was disappointing in both quality and service, and the breakfast felt unappealing.
Most disappointing, however, was the lack of follow-up afterwards despite multiple attempts to get in touch.
The hotel has great potential, but the overall experience does not currently match the price level or expectations.

The hotel's history and atmosphere make it a unique experience, with beautiful surroundings and a stunning location. The staff are friendly, professional, and provide excellent service. We stayed in a ground-floor room with a balcony. It was charming and in keeping with the hotel's style, but quite small. At NOK 4, 500 for one night, we felt the room was somewhat overpriced.
What stands out as particularly overpriced, however, is the five-course dinner at NOK 1, 580 per person. Having dined at several of Oslo's leading restaurants over the years, we found this price difficult to justify. At this level, expectations are naturally very high. Unfortunately, in our opinion, Dalen Hotel's kitchen does not deliver an experience that matches the price. The ingredients, creativity, and execution simply did not meet the standard we would expect at this price point. The meal was enjoyable, but ultimately quite ordinary, and we believe it should be priced considerably lower.
This was our fourth stay at Dalen Hotel, and our overall impression is that the quality of the kitchen has declined over the years while the prices have continued to increase. That is disappointing, because the hotel itself remains one of Norway's most charming historic destinations.
