Protea Hotel Owerri Select

The staff has no urgency to solve any problem. My laundry went missing for a day. My room key failed 3 times in one evening w/ promises of a fix that did not happen. The food service is so slow you must place your order at least 45 minutes in advance. Even a capucino at breakfast was almost 15 minutes. I would try to avoid.

The slowest food service in all my years of travel. The food quality is minimal. My room key continued to malfunction with multiple promises of a fix.

I would give this place a zero if possible. When paying for you stay with an American card, make sure they enter the correct amount in the payment machine. I don't know what type of scam they are running. They changed my card 10 times the amount the should have. My stay was only supposed to cost $300 but I was charged over $3000.
They claimed they would work on a refund but here we are over 3 weeks later, no refund has been posted to my account. Now I have to dispute the charge with my bank, giving me unnecessary work for their own incompetence. Please be wary of this place!

I am a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member, and this is by far the most unprofessional Marriott-branded hotel I have ever stayed at. Check-in took nearly three hours, which is completely unacceptable.
If you are visiting Owerri expecting Marriott standards, please stay away from this hotel. It falls far below what the brand represents. There is only one elevator, and wait times are extremely long. The restaurant service was equally disappointing—I made a reservation twice for my mother’s birthday, yet neither reservation could be found.
The air conditioning in our room was not working (check photo for Maintenace trying to fix our AC at almost 2am), very poor Wi-Fi that works only in the lobby except rooms, maintenance throughout the property appears poorly managed, and overall upkeep is below standard. To make matters worse, our stay was disrupted by excessive noise—construction occurring in one wing of the building and very loud music coming from another. It is hard to understand how a hotel can show such little regard for guest comfort.
This experience was highly disappointing and unprofessional. I strongly advise others to avoid this property.

International standard hotel with luxurious accommodation and design, it is a good place both for vacations and business trips, with high security conscious and alert 📢,, it is another paradise form home 🏡. It services is fully with honest character and simplicity. It is also good for indoor and outdoor meetings.

We had a pleasant stay, staff was fantastic and met us with the best service and attention. They have a fabulous restaurant with buffet options, and a menu with a chef capable of preparing dishes to dietary modifications upon request. Beautiful and cozy sitting areas, incredibly clean swimming pool. The weekend we found they privide entertainment in the dining room.
The rooms were clean, and everything was pretty great! Rooms do not come standard with universal electrical adapters, but they provided one upon request.
They have great security, full surveillance equipment, and a fleet of drivers available for their guests at a reasonable price.
We will definitely stay again should we visit the area!

Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The Wi-Fi connection was extremely poor throughout my stay. The air conditioning in our room was not functioning properly. Although I promptly reported the issue, the technicians who responded claimed it was fixed, even though it was clear that the AC still wasn’t working. I requested a room change, but it took nearly two full days before my family and I were finally moved to two adjoining rooms. Additionally, the hallways had a persistent unpleasant odor due to water-soaked carpets, which made the environment uncomfortable.

No real frills or thrills. Safe, decent, simple rooms and the service was friendly and professional. The lounge and bar area are great for late night convos.

Best hotel in Owerri. Not for the frugal or upcoming. It's quite expensive. Loved their morning buffet. Great service. Wonderful security.

My experience staying at Protea hotel was horrible. The food is good, the location is good but the people and management were horrible.
We were extorted on our last day, we have 8 guests, so we made reservations for 8 people and paid it out. On our last day of the hotel, they ask us to pay for an additional room that never existed, after we showed them our receipt of payment for 8 rooms, we requested to know when they gave the 9th room to and they couldn't as there was no 9th room.
They came up with room services fee that was already paid by our guests, we couldn't reach our to our guest who were already on their respectively flight back their bases. We ended up paying for the room services, when we eventually got through to our friends, they stated that they had already paid their respective bills.
The hotel came up with another scheme and stated that we needed to pay for an additional date, We not even in Owerri on the said date.
My experience was horrible, stressful and unforgettable. I will not advise anyone to patronize Protea hotel, if you must, I will suggest that you be very vigilant and cautious.

The hotel appears dated. Located in an area known as the new Owerri. The staff were very friendly, cordial, and helpful. The breakfast buffet was exquisite, consisting of local traditional and western dishes. Found the in-house restaurant to also be good. However, the room and gym needs improvement.

Adequate service, rooms were satisfactory. Service average. They have potential to do better but I think sadly like most hospitality services in Nigeria as a whole… IT IS ONLY WHEN YOU SHOUT AND BE AGGRESSIVE THINGS OFTEN GET DONE. I will recommend staying at this hotel to friends and family.
