Everything was as expected from a Top 10. Clean, well run, friendly obliging staff.

This is the best camping ground that I encountered so far. Me and my family of 5 came by a campervan. The lake view was of course beautiful. The facilities here are so new and clean. There is laudry room and plenty of space for us to dry our clothes. The kitchen is new and very clean. The toilets and bathrooms are by far the best as heaters are installed, even the floor is warm. It is extremely clean and showers are great too.

The lake's right of front of you, Mountains to the left, it's the perfect placement for weekend getaways. Inexpensive pricing, but would recommend booking in advance. Many opportunities, in the way of Accommodation. Only criticism is the dated look, but who really cares? It was cheap!

The room itself was excellent. Beautiful views, just as advertised. The hallways were frigid cold in the winter and the bathrooms weren’t checked often enough. Very close to a lot of excellent sites though.

Absolutely amazing! The staff are incredibly friendly and so helpful. The facilities are clean and well maintained. This is the best site we have stayed at so far throughout our 2 week adventure. We couldn't be happier with our choice to stay here and will certainly be recommending to family and friends who plan to visit Te Anau.

Room was exactly as how it was described. Clean toilets and showers. Quiet period to stay there which was nice. Be aware that the walls are very thin and if you have a neighbour that snores, even earplugs won't save you.

Clean cabin. The common area was nice. Wi-Fi was essentially nonexistent — a bummer for us, because we were trying to get some work done on the laptops after dark. Should have known better, but they advertised Wi-Fi so we gave it a shot. But it really is just a camp site with couches and showers. Probably great for camper vans and such. Also, we were there in May and it was uncomfortably cold in the cabins, even with the heater turned on. Bring an extra blanket.

Top location to spend some nights. Kitchen, BBQ, electricity, hot shower. Everything clean and well-groomed!

You have a free choice where to park your camper in one of the designated areas. Park is quite big and amenities are good. Common areas such as the living room where quite busy although it was already not high season anymore. At the same time this gave a nice atmosphere. Good showers for which you do not have to pay. Wi-Fi is free however that leads to a totally non functioning Wi-Fi as everybody tries to bomb the web and nothing comes through anymore Price was very reasonable All in all, definitely one of the good ones.

Quite a good place to stay a few nights. 15 min walk along the lake to the restaurants and bars of The Anau; DoC office is almost opposite. We have stayed twice at either end of our Milford Sound Track walk, once in a kitchen/cabin, once in own room with shared facilities. Both were good and clean and reasonably priced given that it is an adventurous activity centre. Only negative was that you had to pay $2 for a bathroom towel. No soap or shampoo provided.

I suspect I'm doing the store wrong, so instead of 1 star, I'm giving 2 stars, but you don't deserve it. Here there should be towels, which does not exist! It should be clean, it is not! It's very noisy; I might as well stay in the marketplace. It is at least a 20-minute walk outside the village. It's worse than any hostel I've ever seen. No one is there since 20 o0. Nobody cares about the people who keep others so extremely awake here. There are communal toilets and showers. Unfortunately, the fake reviews on the net fell in. Better to camp somewhere than to stay here.

Great camping. Very well equipped, clean, free Wi-Fi, free hot shower. And very well placed! I think I'll be back!

Great location and very clean kitchen and amenities. The rooms were clean but a little small for 4 travellers and bags. All staff were friendly and helpful. Not too far to walk into town for a feed and right on the doorstep of some nice mountain bike trails. We found this an excellent place to base ourselves while self-driving Milford Sound and surrounds.

Beautiful campsite!
There are two kitchens that are large enough for the space, but the dining area is a little too small. Unfortunately, there are also few sockets around mobile phones or similar. To load.
The toilets are clean and just like the showers very numerous.
The place itself makes a very well-kept impression and, especially for tents important, there are shade.

Very good campsite right by the lake! Very new showers and washrooms they were always nicely clean to that. The kitchen and dining room was also clean and very new.

I didn't actually stay at the Distinction Hotel but had to write a review about the exceptionally warm and professional team I encountered there in December 2016. My grandfather, now 102, was driven up to Te Anau by my parents to meet me and my wife as he was unable to make our wedding in the north island. However, the drive from Dunedin had taken its toll when they arrived and, having stopped at the hotel to see if he could use their facilities to freshen up, he became faint and was unable to walk. The manager provided a lovely room for him to lie down in for a few hours to rest. When I arrived he was refreshed enough to walk and we had dinner in the MacKinnon restaurant in the hotel. The food and service was excellent but the care and attention shown by Michela, Atshi, Dharma and Aneesh was exceptional. My sincere thanks to the manager and team for looking after us. For anyone looking for a level of service above and beyond the norm I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. — Des Amanono, UK.

Great two bedroom suites. Wonderful staff.

Good place to stay in Te Anau. We wanted a place 1/2 way in between Queenstown and Milford Sound. Te Anau is great for that and Fiordland Hotel worked well for us. We had 2 rooms for our family of 5. It's older, but updated bathroom and all the necessities. Convenient location.

Good place to stay. Nice view from room. Close to town center.

Short on amenities, worn-out, furthest from town centre, not La Quinta, not 3star hotel.

The internet was spotty and the scrambled eggs were watery. The room we were in had a mini fridge that was too loud for my liking (slept with earplugs). The light fixtures looked incomplete and the carpet was worn in. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I was just using the room to sleep in (in this case I was, as I had planned excursions throughout the days).

Worst bed ever, don't waste your $$$ here. Supposed to be a King bed, instead they pushed two terrible twin beds together and called it good. Which is great if you happen to hate who your on holiday with, not my case though. Also, booked a villa then was told we were upgraded to a "suite" upon check in. Went to the room… turns out it was a villa, what an upgrade. I'm not normally so critical but I also don't normally drop this much $$$ on a hotel room, was looking for something relaxing, didn't find it.

Nice and comfortable hotel, frequently visited by Chinese tour groups. Staff very nice, upgraded us to the lake view room. Restaurant with the lake view available at the hotel. Location very convenient.

Terrible breakfast, not clean First to say, the hotel is mostly used by Chinese travel groups staying one night. Other guests are scared. We booked a superior room which is large enough and could be used by 4 persons. Unfortunately arriving the bathroom floor was full of hair, so we informed the reception. Coming back from 2 hours stroll, they didn't clean up the mess. Once again we intervene by the reception and this time the carpet in the room was vacuum cleaned and als the bathroom was done. The most terrible thing is the breakfast. Breakfasts are served only till 8.39 am, that is simply uncomprehensible and maybe the worldwide record. The breakfast buffet doesn't offer anything fresh, no fresh fruit or fruit salad. Simply everything canned and the cheapest from cheap. Also the coffee maybe the worst worldwide. Recommendation: miss the breakfast. It is clear the hotel lives from the travel groups, so they have to save, but please for individual traveller payingt the full price, it is just a no-go.

Perfect location. Staff are very friendly and the views are unparalleled. Only comment I would make is that the door to the room lets a lot of sound through from the corridor but that won't stop me sleeping tonight!

Not much reception but there is Wi-Fi, there isn't much gym stuff but then you not really there to work out are you.

My first time writing a review, but this place is so bad. Horrible experience. Paid $45 to park our car in the parking lot. There are rude signs on the walls of the kitchen and bathroom. The lady at the front desk doesn't work after 6pm. And is rude. She kicked us out the next day right after 10 am… we were her only business. The dryer did not dry our clothes and cost us $4. Very very very bad experience. Do not go here.

Small rooms, although they are very tidy. Free Wi-Fi and activities for fun (darts, pool and putt-putt). Friendly staff. Overall, a good experience at an affordable price.

Great accommodation in a nice and quite town during Winter in NZ. Great for scenic tours and honeymooners alike. Staff are friendly and helpful. Accommodation is first class.

Highly disappointed during our stay and has caused us to write our first accommodation review to warn others. Linen in some rooms is charged extra which makes the accommodation much more unexpectedly expensive when comparing options. Bedding arrangements can be unexpected. We also found the linen provided to be awfully thin and inadequate. No heating in rooms and windows were left open by cleaners on a cold day on arrival. Found the beds to be really uncomfortable and the pillows to be paper thin, rooms were really outdated. Some distance to the bathrooms for the far rooms we stayed in, doesn't make sense that rooms with ensuites were positioned closer to the shared bathrooms. Shared bathrooms need improvement, they were cold, outdated and the lighting in the mens rooms was faulty — had to use them in the dark. One look at the showers and we decided we'd rather not use them during our stay. Found one member of the reception staff to be rude and really unhelpful when we voiced some of our concerns. Accommodation is on main road and was a little noisy. Probably the worst experience we have ever had with accommodation and we have stayed in budget accommodation extensively all over the country. Luckily we decided to stay somewhere else in Te Anau the following nights and for the same price found an incredibly nice place to stay. Strongly recommend exploring the other accommodation options in Te Anau before booking here.

My auntie and I stayed here, the staff were really friendly, the twin single standard room was warm and great value for money, and when my auntie left her shoes they posted them straight on, it was no problem. Would definitely recommend!

Really love it here, the competition is fierce with so many top quality accommodation places in Te Anau. We opted for the Kiwi Holiday Park we judged it by the outside appearance, was clean green and modern and the rooms were the same. We loved our stay here. Was great location and friendly staff.

Dated rooms, shower cubicle missing a door so water everywhere, limited hot water, no pots or pans in the otherwise big communal kitchen/dining area.

Had a bed at short notice. Being a bus driver. Well done.

I stayed in a fantastic motel unit that had a very comfortable bed and was fully kitted out with everything I needed. A great place to have a group get together or in our case a pre-summer meeting. Looking forward to staying next time for leisure rather than business reasons…

The most pleasing overnight stay during our 11-days journey around South Island! Especially I liked the hair drier in the mens' toilet :-)
