Love dining here, always good food and service. A bit chilly outside tonight but a couple of warm blankets made it good.

Food was quick, tasty absolutely fresh & delicious. service 100% waiter extraordinaire DAVID was 100% perfect, friendly, SO attentive, helpful, couldn't do enough to ensure our 2nd visit in 2 days was a pleasant experience! he is worth his weight in gold THANK YOU DAVID, & to Esplanade for another awesome evening of fresh delicious food! we will be back. Best authentic Italian in Dunedin by a mile. Cannot beat sitting by the ocean in the coziest setting sharing pizza & wine. Consistently delicious food & the best service in town. Their formaggi al forno could be the reason I leave the city life in Auckland and permanently move to Dunedin at this point… 10/10.

Fantastic food. Was very busy and due to no booking policy we had to wait for 45mins as a group of 7. Had tried to book that morning but told NO.

Great friendly staff who were super helpful with our baby! They provided the high chair, toys and even some fresh avocado for him! Great menu and an atmosphere that could be both romantic dining or a casual dinner! Highly recommend!

We tried the esplanade for the first time last night. Definitely the best Italian I've had in Dunedin, was absolutely phenomenal, and so fast! I had the ravioli which was very fresh, good flavours and a delicious sauce, with lashings of parmesan! My husband had a pizza which was so incredibly cheesy and the base was amazing. Will definitely be back!

We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment. Very comfortable and clean, modern decor and very well appointed. Location is excellent. The noise reduction between the apartment and restaurant below works superbly. Communication with Katherine was excellent, prompt and efficient. Self checkin and check out worked seamlessly. I would definitely stay here again.

We just stayed for 2 nights at the Hydro. Lovely little touches throughout the apartment. Cheese and crackers waiting for us in the fridge! Full size bottles. Of shampoo conditioner and body wash! Lovely kitchen with well stocked pantry! Beautiful thick bath towels. Fluffy bathrobes. Lovely views from every window! We'll be back!

Spent the night there, it was a lovely experience.

Very busy and can not book but we only waited about 15 mins… fabulous friendly service and the most delicious ravioli. Our table overlooked the open kitchen and pizza oven. Wow. These guys were amazing and waiting staff equally efficient and friendly…

Fantastic dinner nice atmosphere would strongly recommend to anyone visiting Dunedin's St Clair Beach.

The apartments have the most amazing view, they are warm, clean and perfectly appointed. The hospitality of the owners is beyond compare. Cannot recommend these apartments highly enough!

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay on the 30th and 31st January 2019 at the one bedroom apartment in The Hydro Apartments. Fabulous views and lovely spot on the front at St. Clair. The apartment was fully equipped and even though we ate out in all 3 of the local restaurants we could've easily catered for ourselves in the fully fitted kitchen. Little extras in the bathroom were appreciated, would definitely go again.

What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy all the delights of St Clair, the apartments not only have great views, they are warm, really comfortable and the attention to detail is fantastic, Thank you Katherine, we loved it and highly recommend for a relaxing break in Dunedin.

Fantastic location and an apartment with everything we needed. Well laid out kitchen with, fresh coffee, teas, and an organic local bottle of fresh milk. It was hard to leave.

Went to the esplanade yesterday with a group of 5 incredibly hungover girls! Was told a table was available in about 20min and sat us at the bar to wait. Within 5min our table was ready. We then meet our awesome server felesi (sorry bruv not sure on spelling lol) he went over and beyond for us! We got starters which were great then our mains came. I had ordered the lasagne was very dry and uneatable but our amazing server traded it in for the ravioli and that was brilliant. One of the girls was pretty hungover, he came over with a dry lemonade to help perk her up. You made our lunch bloody awesome and cause I can't spell your name properly we can't find ya on Facebook. Hope you enjoyed your tip! Well be back in November on our next trip down. Please make sure he sees this!

Usually the fries are great nice and hot and crispy. But yesterday got pizza and fries and the the fries were cold and hard. So I asked nicely if they could be deep fry longer, which the lady didn't seem happy with doing. So she took them away and they came back 1/2 cold and 1/2 slightly hot. And she dumped them on the table and left. Like I just wanted hot chips.

Food and service was great!

Over my birthday celebrations we had a couple of meals here. I can not fault a single thing about The Esplanade, the food is beautiful, high quality ingredients and perfectly prepared the food arrives at the correct temperature. Our Waiter Semisi, provided one of the best experiences of service I have had in my many years of travelling and eating and my own onthe job experience, I watched as he bussed tables, monitored flow of orders and attended to our needs and firmly but politely delegated with his co workers. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and maintained a really enjoyable atmosphere even when the odd anomaly or glitch occoured. I really love dining here, it never seems like any of my request are a problem, the food is fantastic and as a whole the restaurant and staff creates the most welcoming and enjoyable experience even when it is packed to the rafters. Keep it up guys and thanks for making my birthday lunches so memorable.

Great views and room is big.

We are from Invercargill and had dessert and breakfast there and all 4 of us thought the food and coffee was amazing. And the service was top notch. Highly recommend this place. I will be back.

Stunning 3 bedroom apartment stay. Breathtaking multiple views of St Clair beach that made us want to cancel our social plans and park on the roof for the day with a nice glass of bubbles!. Apartment host was highly competent, providing weloming information. Well stocked kitchen (i didnt even miss my home coffee machine) and great cafes downstairs including very tasty pizza and of course option of short walk to St Clair Salt Water Pool. Only suggestion, some bright, funky beach murals or paintings in stair well leading to apartments, otherwise, well done Hydro Esplanade Apartments! Absolutely appreciated our stay and will certainly be back. :-)

A beautiful place to watch the waves and surfers! You can grab a tea or coffee and a yummy desert at the Esplanade (Hydro). The pizza is great too!

Nice view but getting a little run down.

The Esplanade is my partner and I’s absolute favourite place to eat. We eat here about once a month. I love the butterscotch creme pot! What makes the experience is the amazing staff who make you feel so welcome and like part of the family. Unfortunately we came in for my birthday over the Xmas break and the standard was not the same. The hostess made us feel like an inconvenience and when we took a few seconds to decide if we wanted a bar table (after waiting outside for a table) said “well do you want it or not? ” Rather abruptly. She looked happy enough when chatting to the male bar staff but not when speaking to us. There was also no butterscotch creme pots.

We just completed our stay at The Hydro Esplanade Apartments. Our unit had three bedrooms, and each one had an ocean view. We had great access to the beach (you could not get any closer), just walk down the stairs, cross the street and you are on the beach! Also, there were several nice restaurants within a one minute walk from our apartment. Would definitely stay here again on our next visit.

Can't recommend the two bedroom apartment we stayed in highly enough. Awesome views. Very clean and really well equipped. If you're going to be in Dunedin then stay here!
