Reasonable location, 15 minutes from the centre, large supermarket ~25 minutes away, very nice park a minute's walk. Room was good, quite clean and enough space. Toilets and showers were good, kitchen was excellent, fridges were big enough for all guests to have food in. Staff were lovely.

Looks like both YHA are operated under the same management/team overall no complaints about facilities prices locations etc generally pretty satisfying but still very reluctantly give 2 stars becasue the recepeionist lady was (is and surely will continue to be) rude/aggressive as fxxx as if I owe her some money, during 3 times staying in chch YHA (two times in the other one not far away from here and one time in this place), same lady same terrible attitude for no reason, while attitude toward other local visitors were siginicantly more normal or say, more to a human to huaman manner, this is well not interesting experience.

Good location, friendly and competent staff. Kitchen on the small side, but otherwise good. Double room is a good deal.

Average Hostel. Wifi is good and for free, is good located in the city with easy access and free parking. The kitchen is already and mostly clean. The chiller could be bigger but it's alright. Just 4 stars because the mattresses of our beds were very soft and worn out so I could feel the frame of the bed. But all in all a good hostel.

Got a private ensuite room and was quite pleased with the sleeping arrangements, the size of the room I got, and how clean it was. However the bathroom and kitchenette looked bad. It also wasn't restocked with coffee and tea and when I returned to my room after getting coffee I found the kettle not working and there are no cups.

I cannot convey strongly enough how disgusting this place is. Blood stained headboards that have clearly been up since the world war (the first one), rude staff, windows that won't close, no hot water, broken furniture, dirty utensils, broken light fixings and actual poo in the kettle. Pretty sure I'm going to end up with some sort of rash/ disease due to sanitation conditions similar to those of a homeless crack head. In summary… this place is a complete hole.

Good price at a good location. Walking distance to Botanic Garden. Limited parking tho. Showers on a separate floor.

YHA has 2 hostels, this one is in a heritage building and has fewer beds, so it is more laid back, spacious and it is very clean. Very comfortable common area, large kitchen and rooms are large. What tops it all off is the fantastic location, right across from the i-Site and the Museum and fantastic Botanical Gardens.

Great place to stay. It's an old house so it's not very updated, but it was a nice hostel.

Clean, friendly staff, close to the stunning botanic garden, museum And town. Small bathroom, needs improvement. Have to walk thru the kitchen to get there. Horribly noisy doors of the bedrooms. Because they close automatically the doors are banging constantly. Got wrong information from a staff which was very annoying.

I stayed there on 2013 and I do not recommend. A blonde guy who was the receptionist was very very rude. He came into the bedroom more than one time without knock the door just to open and close the window. He didnt even look at my face or asked me excuse. If you are changing your clothes could be a very uncomfortable situation. He corrected my English in a very rude way but I didn't asked him for that. Another point is the bedrooms are upstarts and bathrooms downstairs so you have to go through the kitchen to get the shower.

A nice dry, warm quiet spot right in the heart of Christchurch. Can't be beaten on value.

Historical place. It has all amenities of a YHA but in an old and historical place close the center and the Hagley park, in front of Canterbury Museum.

Superb location — museum, art gallery, pickup points are all walkable. Free high-speed Wi-Fi, and if that's not enough, it's under a Spark Wi-Fi zone too!

Lovely place to stay, got to meet people from many countries traveling in New Zealand and was wonderful location.

Stayed here two nights for a trip with a club at my school, it was really nice! Beds were very comfortable and the building is a close walk from many places downtown, but the kitchen was a bit small for our group.

L had left my phone and wallet with a lot of cash when I check out. An hour later, I came back to backpack. They gave me back my stuff safely. I'd like to say thanks a lot again.

First hostel YHA I have been, I must say quite satisfactory. Is in the city centre, however at the moment is difficult to speak of a real centre of Christchurch. Smallish rooms but with plenty of electrical outlets (a rare thing) and some furniture to lay things out. Excellent food, acceptable toilets, they would definitely need a renewed. Uncomfortable is the fact that all rooms are on the first floor and practically all the toilets and showers are on the ground floor.

What you expect from a YHA! great work.

Stayed only 1 night in a mixed 6-bed dorm and I liked it! Temperature outside dropped to 1 / 2 overnight but didn't feel a thing, it's pretty well insulated for an old house. Might do good with a few more showers, but didn't really have an overlap with any other person! Would recommend :)
