➜ We stayed for 2 nights in Hackthorns Garden and enjoyed the time. The check in was very straightforward and Eric, who is responsible for everything and the good soul of the hotel, personally showed us the hotel and our room. We had booked the room with the king-size bed. The bed was very large and comfortable, but not as big as a king-size bed. The room is very luxuriously furnished and has an incredible and priceless dreamlike view of Christchurch. Eric also gave us recommendations for restaurants, as the hotel does not currently offer dinner. Breakfast on both mornings consisted of a bowl of cereal, two toast, jam, butter, a fried egg, orange juice and a jug of tea. It tasted good and was enough, but does not meet the standard of a 5* hotel. (However, it must also be mentioned that besides us only 2 other guests were present and so it is sustainable and environmentally conscious not to offer large amounts of food and then possibly have to throw them away)
The entire hotel is luxuriously equipped. Only the outdoor areas / green areas have to be maintained a little more.
All in all, we had an excellent time at Hackthorns and would come back. We can recommend this hotel with a clear conscience and thank Eric for his friendly manner and the fulfillment of all our concerns.

Very unpleasant experience and unethical behaviour by the property manager Eric. We checked out of the hotel and got charged $80 for a luggage rack that the manager claims we broke during our stay. No prior communication or effort was made by the manager to contact us or inform us of the issue. He feels free to take the money from my card and then calls me “ridiculous” for questioning him about this over the phone.
The rooms were not cleaned property. The food was below average and amenities in the room were uncleaned from previous use.
Although the property and location itself is beautiful the service and the transparency of their staff is poor. Will not recommend staying there.
