Hanmer Backpackers Hostel

1 of my favourite backpackers in NZ, it has a real alpine lodge feel to it with the wooden interior and fire with flue filling the double height living/dining area with warmth. The free massage chair and cakes from the local cafe were very nice extras. The lady running it was also really friendly, welcoming and helpful.

A chilly place to sleep in a very nice house with a good kitchen and good beds.

We were warm and entschleiunigend received. Located on the edge of the resort, but close to the supermarket and the thermal springs. The house is cosy and rustic. The kitchen, bathroom and fridge very well equipped and particularly very clean and tidy. Free Wi-Fi up to 500 MB. 3 parking spaces available.
15 min On a high-tech massage chair also included in the price!

One of the better backpackers I stayed at. Super nice and welcoming owners. I slept in a very comfy single bed in a 5bed dorm for two nights. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. I could leave my baggage after check-out in a shed for a couple of hours. It's located just at the end of the shopping street. Bonus: a 15min massage every day from their high-end massage chair ;)

Yoko was very friendly upon our arrival! Walking distance to the thermal pools, well outfitted kitchen, and quiet space to stay.

Nice managers, very tidy premises at the end of the main street in Hanmer Springs. Good hot showers after a day of bike riding. Only a few seconds walk to all the main attractions, 5mins ride to the bike tracks.

Very nice place, I would certainly recommend, very clean, warm and has that lovely log cabin feel to it. The owner is very friendly and quite reasonable, although maybe a little rigid on check out in my opinion. A free usage of massage chair is lovely added extra. Overall a very pleasant stay.

It was so wonderful it Fe lt like an old swiss chalet, the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Clean, cozy, adorable.

Pour les francais, n'hésitez pas, allez-y! ;-) The best hostel of NZ I ever tried! I came for 3 nights I stayed 4 months then came back few times. It's like your home on the other side of the world! Cosy, warm, friendly, the perfect place to be! Yoko and Tristan are just fantastic hosts for all the guest! I highly recommend.

I wouldn't recommend this, the place was very nice, but owner not friendly, she was one of the most rude and grumpy owners I have ever met. Not a place you can relax in as she kept coming in and checking up on you to see what you were doing. I have stayed in a lot of amazing hostels in New Zeeland and met lots of very nice people, unfortunately this was not the case here it was a very bad experience with the owner overall.

Agreed with all reviews below, it was my favourite in NZ. Great homely feel we couldn't believe what we got and for such an affordable price. Definitely the place to stay.

Literally the best place we've stayed at in the whole of NZ. Edwin (owner/manager) is awesome, facilities are great, lots of free stuff (tea, coffee fruit icecream etc) super cheap Wi-Fi ($5/500mb). My gf and I wanted to spend more than the 1 night in hanmer purely because of Edwin and his lodging. Can not recommend highly enough.

After 2 weeks on the road, this place stands out as the best we have stayed at. A full well appointed kitchen, free bananas and kiwifruit (if you're quick). The double room with ensuite is separate to the main lodge. If you can share a bathroom, stay in the lodge with the fireplace.
