Chhavi is the barmaid. We always get a warm welcome from her and her service is really good.

Definitely recommend the seafood pasta @ Horse and Jockey so delicious and to die for. I will definitely be going back for more.

The service was second to none.
We were shown to our room personally & our bags carried for us.
The room was small but clean, comfortable & affordable.

Unfortunately it took ages to even get our order and too long waiting for our meal. After waiting almost an hour there was a mix up and I didn't even get a meal. The meal quality was low. We unfortunately rated a 3/10.

Went there for a meal, due to how inexpensive the meals were, we weren't expecting them to be as amazing as they were. The food was fantastic and so filling. Leo and Brooke were fantastic, so friendly, just great people and a great vibe. Definitely going back there again real soon.

This is the 2nd time in as many months Ive recently visited the Horse & Jockey both as a Xmas work function and dining with my family. Food good, staff great. What I didnt like was on both occasions being confronted by a ginger headed man around the bar area. Food stained down the front of his clothes and smelly. He said he lived upstairs and it felt like he was trying to bum a drink. Spoilt both occasions for me unfortunately: (

Hugely improved since our last visit a good while ago. Great new menu, value for money and food super tasty! lots of effort for the service too, nice work team!

Thank you to all the staff and Stephen Chamberlain for a great night, the food was first class and the staff we're awesome. We'll be back.

Horrible experience. Food was cold. The meals came out one by one. And we had to watch others eat. By the time the last meal came out everyone was finished. Just crap.

Had the worst meal I've ever paid for here in December.
work xmas dinner function. Pre ordered. Inedible cold, chewy, flavorless roast dinner. Sides came out 10mins later. Wouldn't recommend. Were promised something to make up for the terrible experience we all experienced but nothing heard.

Came here Friday night for a snack and a couple games of pool. Staff were friendly, service was great & food was awesome. We had the deep fried Camembert with Focaccia bread which was delicious! I would recommend trying it. Coffee was very good too.

We had a work lunch with the set Christmas menu. Every meal at every course was absolutely delicious. We all enjoyed it so much. The staff were all so lovely and friendly. We all agreed it was our best Christmas lunch to date! Thankyou H&J team — you were outstanding.

Not recommended for families with kids.
fridays and Saturdays are DJ nights don't switch music off till 1:00 and then you still have to deal with the noisey drunks leaving for 30 to 40 min. My kid got no sleep for hours till the music stopped and everyone left at 2:30 in the morning. Also breakfast was a little lazy they forgot to check the bag for mold, and I already had toasted it and was about to feed it to my daughter.

Awesome people with just amzing people skills. Thank you for making the best night ever for myself and hubby who had our first night/date with No kids in 5years hahaha best food Ever!

Went on wed 21st August 2019 my pasta was warm my mum had steak sandwich it was tough they didn't even ask why she didn't eat it I guess they didnt care not good.

Firstly I had to get up after sitting for 10-15 minutes waiting to be served to get our own menus. Secondly, your staff should be told to ask customers how they like their meat cooked! Alot of people have different reference to the way they like meat cooked. I had to be asked for my meat to be well done after getting it and the blood pouring out, then when they came back there was still blood coming out! I had to return it again. Pricey for the standard of what you get. If your a bar make pub grub and not at restaurant prices. Iv worked in restaurants and have the pleasure to say my father is a head chef.

The staff are friendly and the food is awesome. Fishbowls are so yummy too.

We stayed there over a year ago and I can still remember to today. We traveled from Houston when we were experiencing the Hurricane back home. The people were genuine! Rooms were clean. Love that it was centrally locates that we could walk to the center of town and the food was delicious. Why does the US have to be so far away. I would move here.

Stayed here on a staff do from Qtown. Fantastic bar with really lovely, friendly staff, great food and drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

Great menu. Delicious potato rostis'. Very friendly staff. Good selection of drinks. Location is a super plus. Favourite part was the large sun drenched courtyard. Comfortable. Pool tables available. Very smoker friendly — which is a top priority for me and is unfortunately becoming more and more rare. The lack of including good social/dining areas for smokers is frustrating to me as we are paying customers too! Well done Horse and Jockey — I will be back for sure. Also wouldn't mind checking out the accommodation at some point.

Had a poched egg on toast (split bun or muffin) topped with seasoning and sauce. (For brunch) — only had one egg but should have gone for the standard 2. Got to say it was FANTASTIC! The flavour. One of the best I have had.

This place gets nothing but the highest review from me. Not only were the fish 'n chips at the pub scrumptious, but the inn was a really cute and comfy place to stay and the bathrooms were super clean. However, what really sets this place apart is their willingness to go above and beyond to help an idiotic guest who managed to drop her night guard out the bathroom window onto the roof. You guys are AWESOME! I will never forget this both for the hilarity of the story and how friendly and stupendously accommodating you were!

Restraunt and bar area looks nice enough, haven't eaten there so can't say what the food is like. I'm in a single room and sharing a bathroom, for what I paid for it's perfectly fine, nothing flashy, it's plain but it's just a place to sleep which is all I wanted! Clean, affordable, and good location.

Very clean accommodation, self catering but with kitchen available. Supermarkets across the road. The bar does good food. We liked it. No frills but good. Pleasant staff.

I risk overwhelming this place with customers if I get too carried away so I'll keep it understated, like the place itself. I've stayed in many places in Matamata. I'll come back here. That meal was awesome. Surf and turf. Nice quiet atmosphere after a hard day of work and another one tomorrow. Room is very simple, got one with a private bathroom, but will just go the shared bathroom next time as they are spotless, and I'm a germ-a-phobe. Note: my room is not suitable for the previous girlfriend that requires a spacious romantic boudoir, but it's perfect for a one night stay. I'll be back for more.

A very nice place. The room is good, great location, shared bathroom ar good. The kitchen is small and has no cookers tho.

Clean and ok, but the staff were slightly unkind. Parking in the backyard available, bar and casino included in the building.

One of those occasions when you stumble on a local haunt and it was excellent. The food was great and the service was as good as any in the big city. I highly recommend it and will definitely go again.

Budget… you get what you pay for. Very pleasant staff. Room very basic no desk /table or chairs. Bathroom useble but moldy in places and some paint coming off. Great powerful shower!

Great value overnight last minute as I couldnt make it home for bed, very clean freshly decorated simple room, friendly staff, right by the town clock and good cafes, info centre etc Get a wee bit firmer pillows though. Cotton sheets would be cool too. Very good value though.

Need to look at there Steak? Not real Scotch fillet steak! PIZZA needed more seasoning?

I lunch here now. The service is exceptional. The food menu is limited but what ive had so far has been ok. Today the salad was fresh and the fish was good but the chips were soggy though they looked well cooked. Next time I will request crunchy chips.

I have had one of the best meals I've ever had here … but unfortunately also at least 2 of the worst. Friendly staff, nice fire in the winter, pool table, and outdoor area. Perhaps just needs some consistency with their service and meals … a little overpriced for the quality of the meals also, hence I haven't been back here for a meal in a while … a drink and a game of pool, then we go somewhere else to eat.

Had a very comfortable stay. Extremely friendly staff. Very clean. Just one feedback please get better pillows. But I'll definitely recommend this place.

Hotel room was nice and clean and spacious. Washroom was clean and stocked. Room service doing a great job. Bar downstairs closed 8pm on a Saturday for private party. Seems bad practise for their guests however a couple other local bars available.

Basic inn — quiet and clean, shared kitchen and parking round the back. Had a large corner room but the bathroom was spartan and cold, and the bathroom door did not lock properly. There was a large walk-in wardrobe. There's a pub below and a supermarket across the street.

Amazing meals. Lovely friendly staff. The lamb rack, pork belly and rolled stuffed chicken were perfectly cooked and presented. Will be back.
