Recently stayed at this hotel and it will be the last. Waited almost 3hrs for our room to be ready. Check in time was 2pm and it was almost 5pm before we were able to settle in. I wasnt the only one, there were plenty of others in the same predicament as my family and I. We were told the room was just being dusted and when I was given the the key to enter it was far from being ready.
The dishes we were expected to use were filthy. The floor hadn't been vacuumed (looked like months of filth) and the surfaces hadn't been wiped or dusted.
I brought this to the attention of x2 receptionist and they had no answers for us. One of them was meant to come back to sort it but we waited 35mins and nothing.
On my way back from the reception I found a vaccum in the hallway and ended up using it to clean our room. I used my own cleaning products to clean the surfaces. We have visited Rotorua often and stayed in motels and hotels along Fenton st. We have never been as disappointed as this before. would not recommend this accomodation!

Service is awesome. Room is like a apartment. Very spacious. My 3 year old is enjoying sooo much.

Found the experience staying was great. Room was very tidy and clean. Bed comfortable. Restaurant was superb. Meal was tasty and high quality. Service was top notch. We would stay here again.

Going straight to the point, staying at Distinction Hotel in Rotorua was a big disappointment. It was filthy and the staff couldn't care less to accommodate guests. Young lady at the reception wasn't very helpful neither with directions nor with providing basic information. First impressions are usually last impressions a simple smile goes a long way. Staff don't greet at restaurants nor do they ask for plates to be taken. Couldn't make use of the pool, jacuzzi or private grottos because it was filthy and had dead and alot of black spots floating on top. Informed reception about this and they weren't too happy to receive the feeback. Aircon in the room wasn't working properly so had to inform reception again. Huge let down for the entire family. Considering we are promoting local tourism at the moment the place is doing bare minimum to attract any. Safe to say we will not be returning to this facility ever again.

Awesome hospitality, great atmosphere very friendly staffs, spacious room.

Great hotel. Good location. Great for families. Reasonably priced. Great breakfast selection. Friendly & helpful staff. We will be back.

Updating the rooms esp the books on the service and menus.

Do not answer there phones or have any customer service available.

Love the friendly staff, great rooms even got a upgrade, quite and friendly and nothings ever a prob for the staff if ya need something def recommend and be here again.

Excellent facilities for families with children also conferences. Friendly and capable staff. Recommended.

Love this place been coming here for years. So sad to see they have had to let go of a lot of staff. Lots of rooms have been renovated. Service good. Staff friendly. Support your local business, this is a good place to stay whilst in Rotorua.

No air con in some rooms. Stains on bedding like it hasnt been changed Stayed here several times but wouldn't recommend others to stay during summer months. Staff are very nice and very helpful.

Great place to stay, awesome staff and service when we stay. It’s our go to stop now when we travel home. Excellent food within the hotel too.

Nice rooms — however bit of a musty smell, think it’s just Rotorua!

Made a request for assistance with heating and received same with courtesy. Very helpful with all enquiries.

Grear bar and conference facilities great breakfast too.

No aircon, In January that is a must when you are charging $235 per night
They would t refund but we were so disappointed we chose to go somewhere else and pay.

Worst hotel experience I've had in New Zealand as a Kiwi. If this is what we're showing our international tourists they should be ashamed. Room was like a sauna, not clean and the basics like coffee mugs, teaspoons, facecloths had to be requested. Our room wasn't serviced by 2.30pm on our 2nd day which is pretty slack and even then things like the rubbish bin being emptied wasn't done.

Great venue, the staff were excellent and the food was amazing. I would totally recommend it!

Me and my partner was there for onenight. Room was good and I like the interior design. My wife got a sore neck due to soft pillow. However heater was not working in our room and we did not realize it till following day and I got a sore throat very badly. So I went to reception to complain about it and when I approached one of the employees (her name was Nicole) at reception, she did not bother to show me any sympathy or did not bother to say sorry about the situation, rather she told me why I did not inform them earlier night but I told her already that we did not realise it till morning. She was pretending like it was my fault. When I wanted to talk with her manager, she gave the card of her manager and told me her manager was not at work on that day and she was the acting manager.
She was not helpful or customer orinted at all and was showing very bad attitude. Because of her bad attitude, I will never visit this hotel again although I like the hotel. By looking at her face, I understood how rude she was to me.

1 star for the polite service and 1 star for serving food. Took my mum out for her birthday today and very dissatisfied with the high tea from the pavilion. Why change it? Only real edible thing were the scones and they were hard. Everything else we left on the plates. When we came last year it was lovely. The club sandwiches and tarts with the scones. Won't be back that's for sure.

Food for work conference was really good. Venue and sound technicians did a great job too.

Great place to stay, for the time I spent there although I did not stay long. I attended a conference at the hotel and it is a great venue. The waiters were all very friendly & respectful. It is located about 3 streets over from Te Puia and within walking distance.

Great location. Highly recommended, dinner at Mr Yakitori. Drinks at bar before and after … wonderful service.

Just a few minutes ago I rang up the hotel reception and got a woman on the phone, I was trying to book a family room for two nights and as I was talking, this woman kept telling me that she can't understand me. So when I asked that she could absolutely understood nothing, she asked if I wanted to stay for two nights, so I said yes, two nights on a Friday and Saturday in June. Then she started to tell me what weekends were available this month, so I said it's June, she said no I don't understand you. So I asked if there was someone else I could talk to, she said no. Then when asked her name, she JUST HUNG UP ON ME! I worked in new zealand on the phone as a customer service person for 8 years, there has not been a case someone says they can't understand! Really thinking to cancel my vouchers, what a pity it's over 48 hours!

Excellent customer service, Jane the duty manager was very accommodating. Room was comfortable and cozy. Swimming Pool and spa is clean, water is nice and warm. Relaxing environment with amenities that cater to the needs of the guests. Mr Yakitori, the japanese restaurant serve good foods and reasonable price. Will definitely come back and bring my family.

Nice hotel very comfortable. Facilities as one would expect. Outdoor pools are heated from the volcanic springs some nice and warm. Put on a nice Maori show to demonstrate local culture. This hotel is quite some way from the town centre and has NO complimentary bus!

We got upgraded to a suit and the room is amazing. The best part is its hot pool and sauna. No need to go to the spa, just relax all day in the pool.

Very helpful staff and very polite. Breakfast staff were great. Clean rooms. Great MTB storage facility.

Great place to stay. Car parking easy around hotel. Worked a long day so room service was easy and quick and yummy. Will stay again for work in the future.

Immacutely kept yester-year hotel. Lovely friendly service and all amenities with a bit of old fashioned granduer. 4 stars can only be due to the fact that there is no air conditioning in the rooms.

Good value for money when I got my room. Nothing exceptional, nice tidy room and 24 room service is a bonus. Over 2km from cbf so one of the further away hotels if you want to be short walking distance to town.

Old tired rooms, def not 4 stars. Parking a bit of a walk next door, not secure. Facilities great, customer service good. Late check out available, 24 hour check in.

Distinction hotel is built keeping in mind what guests exactly want — silence, breathtaking views, and super comfortable beds along with basic amenities like ceiling fans for temperature regulation, clean bathrooms, coffee-tea maker, and iron-iron boards in each room. This is exactly what we wanted after a long, hot, and tiring day of sightseeing! What stands out in the hotel is the cute little gift shop near the breakfast area called The Lobby Shop run by Frank and Jan Emirali. This shop has all the old world items for sale like beautiful lady kerchiefs, handmade French soaps, beautiful floral handmade notepads, etc. Adding to the items is the captivating conversation with Frank. If you are a tourist staying at Distinction, stop at the The Lobby Shop for a chat with Frank and you will get to know the offbeat little nooks and corners of Rotorua to visit than the normal tourist places.

Have always Loved visiting the Pavilion cafe, and the service and food is always great! However today was disappointing. The waitress that took our order was lovely however We were there for 2 and half hours and not once were we asked how our food was or whether we would like more drinks etc. And our used dishes were not cleared away.
The place also needed a good airing! It had an unpleasant fish odour!
Such a shame, as we love this place!

Nice welcome with a fresh orange juice but we were on a coach tour. Large rooms but no air conditioning just a fan, bathroom towels a bit on the small side. Adequate breakfast but nothing outstanding fruit was fresh, usual cooked. However it was very busy I think there were about 3 coach parties staying here. Good location for the town centre & the Maori historic sites probably within walking distance.

A very good hotel but come to less. They should put emphasis not on the breakfast which is excellent but on the cleanliness of the rooms and the maintenance of the spa. For a weekend and nothing else.

Got our room at a good price online but rooms don't have an air conditioning unit, which can be an issue if you don't like fans.

Fairly average. Friendly staff but accommodation is a bit tired & not very soundproof! Pools are very nice, nicely heated & jaccuzi also nice.

Clean rooms with a unique period feel to the building. Large heated pool out the back. Very unique Grotto spas and sauna "underground" near the outdoor pool (head back towards the building). Good location for mountain biking, with a massive trail park near by, although concierge can only organise storage of your bikes, not hire.

Enjoyed various stays at this hotel last in May where we had a great weekend. Thank you for you great service and enjoyable stay.

In general the accommodation was tidy and the breakfast buffet exceeded my expectations, it would have been a much higher rate if not for our dining experience at the pavilion restaurant on Saturday night, when we arrived there were only three tables which were seated and when we were waiting there was only one still going. My younger one made bit noise so I took him out so that he won't disturb the other table, they got a young one as well and pretty quiet. Just as I walked out carrying my son I heard this Polynesian or Indian manager guy spoke to my daughter and her dad who was still waiting for his meal after about at least ten fifteen minutes, to keep our kids quiet. He said he was sure my partner could understand, then said sorry to my daughter, during the long wait for the meal, which was around twenty minutes, I spent most if the time outside with my son to separate the two children so they won't make noise playing together. We have always been cautious of this and it seemed strange this person assumed manager's role jumped in so quickly and told us off. While waiting for the meal to be served, I asked the blond waitress lady where the toilet was, I thought it might be next to our table where got a sliding door, she said go outside turn left then as I thanked her and just turned my back, she slammed the door behind me loud and shut it.

Wonderful service & facilities all throughout the hotel, loved our room however it was quite hot and stuffy. The breakfast buffet was spectacular, and so were all of the other facilities. One of our favourite experiences was definitely the pool, it was a fan favourite amongst us all and we stayed in it for almost two hours! Overall it's a fantastic place, and I would come again soon in the blink of an eye. Thanks for your fantastic service, I hope to see you again soon Distinction!

We had a very pleasant stay here, plenty of parking, a nice area to drive up and drop bags. Rooms were nice and tidy, swimming pool enjoyable and staff very polite. Great job.

The corner suite is spacious and well laid out. Water pressure and service are good. Beds are very comfortable. The outdoor spa and heated pools need a good clean; there is some fair algae growth. The hotel is a short walk from the Mauri Thermal Village thermal attraction.

It's a breath of fresh air to get away from stainless steel and glass. This is a classy old but well maintained hotel that leaves me pleasantly surprised every time I stay here. No air-conditioned room but clean fans and windows. Whisper quiet and you sleep like a baby. Breakfast is excellent. Well stocked buffet catering for any nationality.

I slept like a dream and ate like a king. This is a fantastic hotel with an excellent choice of meals throughout the day. Breakfast room is amazing, the cafe has excellent food and the dining experience was wonderful. The evening bar, beautiful heated swimming pool and great staff have made our stay a most pleasant one. Well done Distinction.

Awesome place to stay, great rate — wouldn't find better. Very impressed with the great service and friendly staff. Very clean rooms, warm and cosy. Good shower pressure and long mirror in bathroom. Black out curtains helped to sleep in. Swimming pool is great for children and the spa pool great for adults. The grotto spas could have been a little warmer. Good buffet breakfast. Late checkout was also handy. Would defiantly stay here again.

Great family room deals with breakfast. Had a great time with the kids in the pools. The rooms were spacious and staff friendly.

Have been using this hotel for about 5 years for our regular Rotorua mtb bike trips 2 — 3 x a year. Staff fantastic, helpfull and accomodate muddy mtb bikers with grace. Child friendly. Lovely pool and spas. Gardens well maintained. Great breakfast. Some rooms can be a bit musty but its Rotorua after all. Older rooms roomier, refurbished rooms smaller but very nice. Quieter end of town which suits us. Going back again shortly.
