So many good things about this place!
The staff — Sarah, Campbell, Sean, Nathan — everyone there was great and super welcoming and helpful!
We'll definitely be back to NZ again and we'll be back to Verandahs again too!

Great place with a lovely staff. Good location bewteen every things to do in Auckland, and quiet, with a garden. It was the perfect place for arrive and leave NZ.

Nice clean and cosy place. It was so much silence at night that I'd wake up at the slightest sound. Kinda difficult to reach by public transport unless you get a shuttle directly grill airport to hostel.

The two very beautiful old houses overlooking the Park which form the Backpackers are clean and stylish. The staff is great (they obviously have been around quite a lot). The gorgeous Kauri ramp of the staircase leading to my room is difficult not to caress and the room itself is perfectly clean with comfy bedding. An ideal place to recover from the long flight from Europe, it is also more or less half an hour's walk from the harbour and the waterfront on which it has commanding views.

I've been at this hostel few times now and as always it was excellent! campbell and Lorraine offer an amazing service! Verandahs is a great place to spend your time in Auckland, it's quiet enough to relax but you can still meet nice people to go out or have caht… I'll defintely go back again next time I'll be in Auckland.

Great hostel for backpackers, you meet lot's of interesting people. Perfect place to start your new Zealand trip. The managers will help you as much as they can to start your trip in the best conditions!

What can I say… What a great place! Everything is super clean and the location is really lovely. They have a huge community area where you can cook or just relax. If you wish you can also just chill in the nice big garden outside. We had a double room and it was fantastic. I can only recommend this place! It is even quite near to the Eden Park Stadium.

Great hostel with spacious rooms and great bathrooms! One of the best hostels in New Zealand! May be there for 6 weeks in 2009 and it's definitely still just as great.

Absolutely amazing hostel in a hip part of town! Super friendly and helpfull staff! The rooms are so spacious that we rather felt like beeing in a hotel. Everything is tidy and hygienic. Highly reccomended!

Great place spacious yet cozy and a really honestly community feel has a great kitchen and lovely lounge with games, piano, guitar, computer, lovely place to stay definitely coming back.

OK place because of the nice area it sits in. Not your usual backpacker spot… lacks common rooms to hang out at, front desk ok but not too helpful nor friendly.

For me the best hostel in Auckland. You don't have the feeling youre in a big city. Awesome owner and manager. Great clean rooms, kitchen and showers. Really good beds. Just perfect.

Located on the edge of CBD, but easy to walk to the centre (the streets are going down), and to go back to the hostel you can pay only $1 for Red bus and walk a bit on the flat K'road.
Dorm rooms are big enough to organize your suitcase/backpack.
Newly opened supermarket Countdown / orcanic store are just around the corner.
Also not a big hustle to catch Skybus to the airport, just 10-15 min walk.
I'll come back for my third stay for sure ;)

Nice, clean rooms, large kitchen, several common rooms, functional and simple bathrooms. They have only gender-mixed rooms normally, so tell at booking if you want one! Big supermarket nearby, be sure to visit Posonby Rd for eating and shopping as well as the magnificent Western Park right next to the hostel!

— The bed was very comfortable. — Friendly and helpful staff. — There was a heater in the room (needs to be reset every 90 min). — Towels provided, but no shower gel/bar soap though hand soap is available. — Shower was a bit messy when ppl didn't clean up after themselves. Bring shower shoes. — Chargers and adapters available for some devices. — Nice full kitchen area; avail for cooking. — Green space available in the backyard. — Lounge/library available. — Great neighborhood: lots of reasonably priced cafes and restaurants; near a park. — Easy access to public transportation including 10-15 min walk to $18 SkyBus to/from the airport.

A really nice place for starting or ending a trip to New Zealand. The friend is very friendly and helps a lot with everything. The rooms don't have bunk beds and some are really big which is nice. When you sit outside you have a nice look into the park so it doesn't feel like being in a big city at all. The facilities are very clean and the kitchen has a decent size for the number of beds. The bus stop is just around the corner and it is only a 15 minute bus ride to town.

Very nice backpaker, very good place, very good staff, clean everywhere. Just the Wi-Fi is expensive 5 dollars for 50Gb.

Great independent hostel set in 2 large town houses. Good kitchen facilities, nice garden overlooking the park, pleasant rooms.

Lovely hostel in Ponsonby (known as "Ponsnobby" to the locals). Consists of two buildings, one of which has a very large/spacious kitchen and dining area as well as spacious and comfy lounge; there is a second lounge in the other building. Nice backyard garden area; well-kept bathrooms with nice showers. Best of all it is quiet and charming (no drunken louts), the people were friendly (including the others staying there), and there are even a couple of friendly cats that wander in and out of the lounges. Beds were soft and comfy and clean, and there are no bunks — just the beds, which is a bonus; I stayed in a 4-share and it was roomy and pleasant. Verandah's is only about a 15-minute walk to anything you could want downtown. Recommended.

It is strategically located between walking distance to the city center and to the "hip" Ponsonby rd. I stayed there for 3 days and voted as one of the best hostels in NZ. It is clean, cozy, and good ambiance. The staffs are friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended.
