Was on a weekend trip in the Marriott and could the 5 * status do not really understand.
Directions:
Because the journey by plane was I could do me no impression of the itinerary and the circumstances of a drive. Looking back remains but to say that apparent traffic chaos (cyclists everywhere) and the confused street layout just for hardened drivers are. With public transport can man relaxes from Schiphol with bus transfer number 197 (ticket price 05/2013 ~ 4, 00 €) to be promoted to the Leidseplein, so to the door of the hotel. Front door, there is also a connection to the tram. Very good!
First impression and location:
Although idyllic located between many historical buildings, the façade could use a major overhaul but again. The biggest advantage is the location on the Leidseplein, for night owls and Czarinas a paradise. The old town + canals can be reached within 5 min walk.
Reception:
Nice but not very personally, to the enormous number of guests a like many a station on traffic in the lobby always. Our special requests were however quickly addressed and it was even in the room. The concierge service is very positive, unfortunately pre-auction also at this desk often.
Rooms:
The cleanliness was how to expect very well. The King-size beds are excellent, a cot cost €15 extra, extra pillows were available free on request. Technically the rooms could be somewhat modern furnished, despite age of worldwide networking here still no free Wi-Fi is available (access only against cash), very old-fashioned for a price far beyond the €200. In the lobby, a "light" can be-used Wi-Fi, this enough but just get to the E-Mail. A picture could send no one (on the basis of a transfer limit) to the folks back home. Also surf was hardly possible. Each / e coffee shop / bar offers a better standard of Wi-Fi free of charge in the city.
The bathroom was decent however we had an unreasonably low water pressure on the line (and in the second floor! ). In the shower, you struggled to every drop and you could be happy if you got the shampoo out of your hair.
Service:
The service staff were always ready and prepared daily and cleaned the room. The concierge service supports when ask to public transport and attractions. Information material was unfortunately none to the city.
Breakfast:
The breakfast was not due to the price. In the near old city there is enough affordable alternatives — but be careful. In direct proximity to the hotel have seen off some "service provider" on hungry tourists and offer food and drinks for exorbitant prices. You should go a few steps or Use the railway.
Restaurant:
Was not used because costs and benefits in the environment is hit by many alternatives.
Fitness room:
Was once used and caters for everyone, treadmills, Cardiosimulators and devices to build muscle are numerous available.
Conclusion:
Why a hotel 5 * status enjoys remains mystery. The offer does not justify the excessive price here. A hobby-horse of the hotel remains the situation, tell a friend I can not this hotel but. This lacks the hotel basic services such as free Wi-Fi. Other hotels in similar topographic and price situation can certainly better.
