Review of Amsterdam Marriott Hotel 5*

I have stayed at countless Marriott properties around the world for both work and vacation and never had any problem until I stayed at this one. Checked in as usual via iPhone Marriott app more than 3 hours in advance and when I arrived, was told by "Max" at the front desk that my room was not available and have "no idea" when it will be. The sick part was he then handed me a signed personalized welcome card addressed to me from the hotel manager thanking me for my status with Marriott and wishing me a great stay at this property and Amsterdam. I was polite and asked Max for a rough idea on when the room would be ready and he said he has no idea at all. "Could be an hr or it could be 4. " I then reminded him again that I had already checked in through the app and highlighted my status with Marriott and he said it doesn't matter and still can't do anything. Oh really? … I made one short call to client relations at Marriott corporate and my room is available only 10 minutes later. The only reason this review is still 3 stars is that I got a great room, the hotel is centrally located, and I got a call later from the hotel apologizing for the incident. Another highlight of this property is the executive lounge which this property calls the "M Club", both the complimentary breakfast buffet and the afternoon happy hour buffet was great and included a good variety of local foods. I am a little reluctant to rebook this property next time I come to Amsterdam due to the issue at check in but was assured that it won't happen again.
