Review of WestCord Hotel Eindhoven 4*

This hotel has put an emphasis on being artsy over comfort and practicality which makes it good for the casual weekend and hard for business and family travel. The location is very good — walkable from the train station. I have always found the front desk staff to be helpful. My room has always been clean and maid service fine. My issue and lower rating is with the rooms which are definitely designed more for casual weekenders / couples wanting romance. (so rating would be a 4 if that is what you need. ) Each room is different but most in the main building are quite dark. They have dark purple or red walls, heavy dark velvet drapes, and mood lighting. (Inadequate to read in bed or see your clothing to dress. ) Many bathrooms are also outfitted with dark tiles and poor lighting. There are no closets or quite small unlit ones. I always bring a flashlight and a reading light and sometimes I have asked for extra floor lights. Now, I always ask for one of the few rooms with white walls and if not available I won't stay there. The maintenance staff is prompt and helpful. All rooms do have windows that open. Very few rooms have air conditioning. Some rooms have the huge tubs which again are for the 'weekenders'. No water is provided in the rooms as NL tap water is drinkable. There usually is a coffee / tea maker. There is a nice gym around the corner which they can provide a pass for. They do not have enough parking but there is a large and very convenient city lot just across the street which they also provide discounted passes for. I like the food in the restaurant for breakfast and also I find it quite good for dinner.
