This is a great place to stay and recoup after a long trek or a long flight. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with excellent hot water and pressure (I've traveled in Nepal and India a lot, this is rare). The hotel is conveniently located in central Thamel, everything you need is a short walk away. The people at the front desk are knowledgeable and can help with whatever you need. I would definitely stay here again!

Great place to stay. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food. Love the location — funky street close to restaurants and shops. Very near the Pumpernickle Bakery — a favorite with Westerners and locals.

Excelsior Hotel has become my home whenever I am in Kathmandu. I have been traveling to Kathmandu for the last 28 years for my business. And since 1995 I have made Excelsior hotel my home. I greatly admire the reliability, honesty, and generosity of the family who owns and manage the place. I also appreciate the school they have been supporting in Mustang for many years. While I was in the Kathmandu early this year, they were busy designing and fixing the roof. I just spent 7 days in Kathmandu and now Excelsior Hotel got the best roof in whole Thamel. The view of Monkey temple (Swayambu) is spectacular and the sun rise and sun set is breathtaking. I went up to the roof every morning to watch the sun rise and enjoy my tea, book, and did a little breathing yoga exercise. Here are some images from the roof.

I have been staying at Hotel Excelsior for the last 4 years. I come to Kathmandu every 3 months on business or personal matters, and I am always greeted warmly by the staff and management. I am now considered "part of the family" by the Proprietors, Mr Kunsang Dorje Lama and his charming wife, Jigme. That is a big compliment! The staff are friendly and welcoming, the service is efficient, the rooms are comfortable, clean and fresh and all have TV and Wi-Fi. The most important thing for me is the central location right in the heart of Thamel, where I do most of my business — the location is very convenient to me and helps me complete my tasks in the shortest possible time. I highly recommend this family-friendly hotel.

Centrally located with everything at a walkable distance. I stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Excelsior. The staff are very helpful in providing information and booking stuff for you. The hot showers were really appreciated, since not many hotels in Nepal in this price range provide that. Also, the best part was the rooftop restaurant which has a great view of the valley. Having your breakfast and coffee up there is just what a holiday should be, relaxing.

Hotel Excelsior, is a very welcoming place, very well located, every thing walk distance, our hosts are extremely friendly and super nice. Its very clean Place, amazing hot showers, Now the have a restaurant on the top floor, It is really nice, lost of plants, well decorated, very cozy roof top. Excellent Wi-Fi in all hotel. There is laundry service, pick up from the airport, storage luggage, while you are in the mountains, plane tickets reservation. Very convenient place, ill came back for many years.

Our hosts we gorgeous, verykind, the place is very clean, and nice, for women solo travelers is perfect is in the middle of thamel.

The owners and employees are very professionals, the place is very clean, good hot water and amazing roof top.

+ clean rooms + included breakfast was ok (you can choose from different menus) + reception staff is very friendly! — sometimes at night we heard loud music (until 2am) — sometimes there is a power cut (but power generator in hotel is supplied) ++ very central located in Thamel ++ there are a lot of shops and good restaurants near the hotel.

My choice of hotel in Kathmandu. Smack in the heart of Thamel, clean beds, excellent and attentive service. Go for the deluxe room if you want air conditioning. Deluxe room has 3 beds. Stay on lower floors if you don't want to climb stairs. Popular with hikers as well. Decent breakfast.

This place is like a slice of heaven in the middle of Kathmandu. The beautiful court yard offers a quick get away from the streets of Thamel which, by the way, is the best shopping district I have ever been to. The staff are incredibly friendly (including the guards at the gate) and are more than accommodating. I can't wait until I can visit again!

First time in Kathmandu and this hotel is a very nice respite from the rest of the city. Breakfast is great and I took a shower at 7am and the water was almost too hot.

The KGH is the nicest hotel in Kathmandu, with that being said they still have some issues maintaining power and hot water. I would recommend taking showers during off times as the hot water will run out. Also, I would recommend not booking a car with the hotel unless absolutely necessary. The hotel does work with some drivers but they will charge you way more than the service that they are providing, just go grab a cab and haggle the price. The morning breakfasts are fantastic they have fresh fruits and a buffet style meal for you to start your day. Overall great experience if this is your first time staying in Nepal.

Location of this guest house is very convinient. Its located in the busy market of kathmandu, yet very peaceful. Maintained beautifully with.

A delightful respite to the hustle and bustle that is Kathmandu. Everyone here is exceptionally nice. The attached restaurant is also quite solid for breakfast and makes an amazing chicken biryani.

Helpful stag, rooms good though not worth the extra cost compared to rivals. Hour water and electricity as temperamental as everywhere else in the city.
