Shametu River Lodge

What a lodge with great river view rooms. It was a wonderful place to stay looking out over the river. Sundowners on the river plus my first Tiger fish caught and returned. The staff were so kind and helpful suggesting things to do and see. We went on one guided game drive with great success and another shorter one that we went ourselves. Both let us see a lot of game and gave us time to take lots of photos.

The location of the Lodge is good and near e. G. Mahango Core Area of the Bwabwata NP. The rooms are good as well, but some better cleaning would be nice. The setup of the seating areas of the Lodge is not the best (lunch at the pool, cake at the reception lounge, dinner in the Restaurant etc) — loads of walking and navigation for guests and staff. The dinner was good, the breakfast a disaster, as nothing was refilled after the tour groups left… we had to beg for cheese, bread etc. That is not acceptable, and staff seemed to be non-interested during breakfast.

Shametu Lodge exceeded every expectation. The attention to detail across the entire property and experience was flawless. The game drive was unforgettable, the tiger fishing was both thrilling and peaceful, and the fire on the island at sunset was pure magic. To top it off, the food was outstanding, every meal delicious and beautifully presented. A perfect blend of adventure, comfort, and hospitality. Truly one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had!

What a spectacular stay! Breathtaking views and thoughtful design met with warm, welcoming faces. We were able to participate in exquisite activities and excursions, including tiger fishing with hippos and crocodiles, as well as a game drive through Buffalo Park where our guide taught us about the endless animals we were able to see up close in the wild. Kind and caring staff went above and beyond, and our couples massage set us up for deep relaxation while getting a real, action-packed Namibian experience.

Great location, generous well appointed room situated on the river (room 1). View from the large picture window in the room was like a moving painting. River Safari and cruise was also highlight. Food is ok and reasonably priced. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Close to national park. Would completely recommend.

We were on the campground of the Lodge. The location and the setup is very nice and the campground with showers and outdoor kitchen well equipped, even though some maintenance would be timely. Morning breakfast boat tour highly recommended as well as the afternoon Safari — very knowledgeable guides. Sundowner tour is a bit too much with all boats from all the lodges on the water and at the end on that little island…. Too much.
Also the service was not outstanding…. We waited an hour for Dinner and then again for some wings and fries over lunch…. Highly recommended to pre-order all your food. Overall, good location but please work on the vibes!

Outstanding!
We were there from 16-18 July. The manager was very accommodating and attentive. If she's reading this, I'd like to tell her that the food was great. Even the spinach from our own garden😃.
The boat trip from the hotel was also very exciting, followed by a sundowner.
The tents were also very comfortable to sleep in, just a little cold, but there would be a heater in the room for that.
The lodge has its own huge garden and lots of plants.

I stayed for two nights at Shametu. My room was very beautiful and clean, service was good and food was excellent! Would definitely come again!

The stay was excellent, however there were few things that could have made our stay even enjoyable. Improve on the Wi-Fi access, provide TV set in the room, provide an iron for your gusts so that they look good on holiday, provide a microwave to warm food as sometimes we have left overs from lunch or dinner.

We had a glorious visit at this jewel located on the banks of the Kavango opposite Popa Falls. As a returning guest, I briught friends from the Netherlands to experience this pure African splendour. The Buffalo gamedrive, a custom made lunch cruise on the Kavango, a visit to the Popa Falls, rejuvinated river rooms and the phenominal dinners make this place a must on any itinerary to this area.

Camping at Shametu is a pleasure, neat and great ablution.

Shametu River Lodge is an amazing place, beautiful view and next to Popa Falls with the rapids roaring sound! We enjoyed our 4 days very much. The staff and service was excellent — from breakfast to dinner at night the food was great! We will be back!

Great family lodge on the river. Our chalet had a great view and a king bed and 2 single beds. Air con in the main room but not the kids room. If you leave the door open it gets acceptably cool. Pool is nice as is the deck overlooking the river. Food is outstanding! Each night they had a set menu and we loved each of our 3 nights. We did tours of the river and a near by national park. Saw hippos, crocodile, water buffalo, elephants and lots of antelope. Great guide and service all around.

We enjoyed the 3 day very much. The cruze on the river was great and the Lodge lies between Mahango and Buffalo Parc is excellent for visiting them.

A great place to stay if you’re in the area or passing through. My accommodation price included dinner and breakfast which were both excellent. The lodge was clean and well presented, and the terrace overlooking the river provided an excellent place to watch the sunset with a cold drink.
The staff were all super friendly and helpful from start to finish.

This place was wonderful except for the food. It was just ok. The meat was tough. Needed to be cooked on a lower temp, slower. I was in cabin 13 and it was beautiful. Has air con. The sundowner cruise was great. Would recommend.

We stayed at Shametu in a chalet behind the tented rooms on the river the first night we stayed at the lodge. The room was big and the aircon was great! The front of house staff where all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the dinner, lunch and breakfast very much. We were impressed with the wine list and enjoyed a good bottle. My friend and I had a pedicure and a full body massage. Both treatments were great and the spa staff are extremely professional. We had great massages. Very happy. The second night we stayed at Shametu after a trip to Katima. We stayed in a tented room on the river. The view was beautiful and you could hear the Popa Falls. The tent was very big and had an aircon which we needed as it was very hot in the tent in the afternoon. Overall everyone was very friendly and we where happy with the lodge. We will visit again! Recommend this lodge.
